I tried to sell my Jake Bates PC… then these popped up and ruined my plans 😭

A few weeks ago I posted my entire Jake Bates collection for sale, but honestly as people started asking to break it up, I saw a couple grail pieces hit the market that I couldn’t pass up. The addiction is real so I guess the PC lives on! Just wanted to share an updated picture of where the collection is sitting right now. Since my last post I ended up picking up the CGC Pristine True Gold /50, the Topps Molten Mercury FDI /6, the Select Green RPA /5, and the Topps Red Wave /5. Huge shoutout to the couple awesome Redditors who messaged me about buying cards last time, you guys definitely still have first dibs on those! I’ll still be selling off my duplicates and might list a few on eBay once the season officially kicks off, but for now I’m just enjoying adding to the stack. Go Lions!

The hobby is obsessed with comps, and I think It’s hurting the market…

After spending this weekend at the National, it seemed like every other conversation was, “that’s way over comps.”

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think people put way too much faith in comps, especially on rare cards, low numbered cards, case hits, and GOAT cards. The reality is that comps only capture a small piece of the market. They don’t account for live auctions, card shows, private deals, Facebook, Reddit, or cash sales.

Here’s what I don’t understand. If a card sells for $70 because only one person bid, everyone calls that “market value.” But if the next copy sells for $200 because two collectors actually wanted it, suddenly people say it’s overpriced. Why? Aren’t both legitimate sales?

To me, every completed sale is a comp. The problem is people act like one auction permanently sets the value of a card when there often isn’t enough data to make that claim.

I also don’t understand the mindset of wanting to buy everything at 70 to 80% of comps. If sellers are buying cards at market prices and taking on all the risk, how are they supposed to make money? If I don’t like someone’s asking price, I just move on instead of telling them what their card is worth.

I’m genuinely curious where everyone stands. Do you think comps are the best tool we have, or has the hobby become too dependent on them? Please keep it civil. I’d like to genuinely hear both sides 🙏

Just got the Qilo Season 2 Saddam Hussein Gshock, limited to only 50 pieces

I know it’s a controversial release, but as a collector I find it really interesting because of how few were made and how much discussion it creates.

What do you all think?

Does the fact that it’s “just a mod” make it less collectible to you, or does the limited run and instant sellout make it desirable? Would you pick one up if you had the chance, or is it an easy pass?

Curious to hear everyone’s opinions.

Selling my Jake Bates pc after 2 years

After putting nearly two years of absolute nonstop hunting into this set, I’ve decided it’s time to pass the torch. This is the biggest Jake Bates PC in the world. This was actually the very first rainbow I ever started building. I absolutely fell in love with Jake Bates’ story. He went from working a regular job to crushing it in the UFL, and then becoming the breakout star kicker for the Lions. On top of that, he is just an incredibly humble and awesome player, which made collecting him so much more meaningful for me. If you collect Bates, you already know how brutally tough his stuff is to track down. I built this collection with a massive amount of pride and was incredibly picky about every single card that made the cut. Every card here is in excellent condition. All of the Selects, the RPAs, and the short-printed Topps Chromes under /25 were bought with the sole intention of going straight to grading. To be honest, if PSA wasn't so completely backed up right now, every single one of these would be sitting in a slab already. For the RPAs, I absolutely refused to buy boring patches. I hunted down premium 3-color chunks for maximum eye appeal. The only cards here that weren't strictly picked for grading are the Topps Chrome parallels past /25, which I babied just to fill out the rainbow run. As for why I'm moving on: I took this collection as far as I possibly could, but I've hit a wall. The guy who owns all of his 1/1s is being completely unreasonable with his pricing, asking $8k to $10k per card. Since completing the true master set isn't realistic with those numbers, I've lost a bit of the drive to keep pushing it. I'd rather see this incredible run go to a die hard Jake Bates collector who will appreciate the absolute grind it took to piece this together. I really want to pass this whole collection to someone who loves his story and the hobby as much as I do, so I am looking to sell this as a complete lot. I’m not interested in breaking it up for singles.

Drop a comment if you're interested or slide into my DMs if you want to talk numbers and make a serious deal. Full breakdown of the lot is right here.

My new OJAS setup. Testing them out this weekend!

Just picked these up and I'm already in love with the look. I haven’t had a chance to test them yet, but I plan on hooking them up this weekend to see what they can really do. Anyone else here running an OJAS system? What’s your experience been like so far?

I know this is going to be a long shot…help me finish my rainbow 🙏🥹

I’m getting really close to finishing my Select Jake Bates rainbow, and I’m still hunting one card in particular: the Black Dragon Scale. If anyone here owns it or knows who does, please reach out. I know it sold around Christmas last year on eBay for about 500 bucks and ended up getting graded PSA 9. Of course that was the one time I wasn’t checking eBay daily for Bates cards 😂

Been building this for a while and would love to finally complete it. Really appreciate any help or leads 🙏

Which animal print is your favorite?

Say what you want about Panini, but the end of licensed Select is going to leave a massive void. The animal prints have always been elite, but the Tiger variation easily takes the crown for me. What’s your all time favorite print?

Been building this Lions PC for a little over a year now and these are some of my favorite cards I’ve got in it.

Always curious what everyone else is holding 🤔 who’s got the craziest Lions card in their PC right now? What’s your favorite one in mine? There’s a couple sneaky ones in here too I wanna see if anybody catches them.

Drop yours in the comments 🤟🏻

Hey everyone, quick question. I just sold a limited edition (and pretty expensive) watch to a buyer in Switzerland and I’m trying to ship it through eBay’s international standard delivery.

It’s telling me to choose an option with signature confirmation, but I’m not seeing any option to add signature delivery anywhere. It’s only giving me USPS options.

I really don’t feel comfortable shipping something this expensive without signature confirmation. Does eBay International Standard Delivery include it automatically, or am I missing something?

Appreciate any help 🙏
