Can a tenant legally claim interest on delayed payment of holding deposit by landlord in England?

Hi

There is a problem with the current Tenancy deposit scheme it seems. When a tenant doesn’t pay rent on time then they are charged interest rate on the outstanding balance ; however the same doesn’t apply for the delay in payment of holding deposit from the landlord.

I’ve been following up from a month but the owner is not responding. Can I claim interest if the deposit is paid late?

Thanks

Suggestions for 1st timers

Hi

I am taking the driving test in 3 months time from now . This will be my first attempt. Any recommendations how should I go about it ? How many sessions should I book with my instructor? What should I be careful of when selecting an instructor? Is there any YouTube channel which helped ?

Is it worth buying a home in London ?

Hi

I had postponed my decision of buying a house because I was on skilled visa. I will be getting my ILR in couple of months and now it makes sense to check if it’s worth buying a house in London/ Outside London. I’ve 2 dependent kids (below 5 years) and wife is a homemaker. So my source of income is limited. I’ve saved for a deposit over 5 years. My budget is ~400k -450k , mortgage over 30 years. I am left with ~200 pounds monthly after budgeting all my expenses (including a holiday in summer , mortgage , food and bills) . Is it advisable for me to rent or buying a home and why ?

Practical Driving test

Hi friends,

Has anyone passed their manual driving test on the first attempt? I’m looking for recommendations for a good driving instructor around the PE1 area.

Thanks in advance!

Dear Reddit family,

I’m a dad of two in my mid-30s and the sole provider for my family. I’m fairly new to the UK and looking to connect with a mentor or coach.

Ideally, I’d love to learn from someone who’s built strong financial success and is open to sharing their experience, insights, and possibly helping me navigate opportunities and connections here.

If you’ve been on a similar path or are open to mentoring, I’d really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks in advance.

Mid to late 30s M, Constant burnout , single bread winner .. finance pressure , low on savings , 2 kids .. can’t remember when I last slept peacefully without having to worry about tomorrow. Each day looks like a fire fight and struggle to survive the job market .

Looking for 2 cents from fathers who have survived this grind , what mindset you had when you were in late 30s and what would you do differently?
