3080TI was an amazing card, but so is the 5080. Very happy with the switch.

For what I was doing and playing the 12GB vram was getting very very close to filling up.

I started to notice I wasn’t getting full DLSS support and frame gen on certain games as well. Thought it was a good time (not price wise) to upgrade. I also have been playing VR, the 5080 man handles VR.

I will probably keep my 3080TI as it seems to be a semi-rare edition of the card.

If anyone else is out there in a similar position, the 5080 was absolutely worth it.

Currently have it overclocked 300+ on core 2000+ on memory, custom fan profile, runs around 62-63C on full load. For comparison my 3080TI pulled more wattage (around 390W+) and got up to 82-83C.

5080 is the goat.

Metro is just a shit show in PVE mode.

Let me get ahead of you here, yes PvE mode is “easier” than PvP mode so it should be balanced around that fact.

However it’s just a shit show of tanky NPCs strafe shooting in and out of cover with T4-5 ammo. I spawned in and had to fend off 10-20 of them before I could even breathe to pack ammo let alone loot. The map is just way too hectic.

You also never get to loot in peace since you are the only one there. Make the slightest of a sound? Be prepared for 4-6 elite scavs to push the fuck out of you.

It’s just not fun, I’m down for a proper challenge, but this is just straight up obnoxious. Throwing more tanky enemies at the player isn’t a good way to inflate the difficulty.

After a lot of testing across multiple different types of games, H.264+ @ 500mbs is definitely the best overall

I'm semi-new to VR, just getting into it at the start of the year.

Doing some surface level digging, It seemed like HVEC-10 and AV-1 were the "Go to codecs" for wireless PCVR.

I didn't know the difference so I just went with AV-1 since I had a 5080 and it supported it. As time went by and I consumed more VR content, I started to notice visuals that looked "Odd" Smudging in the background, when lots of motion was active, I'd notice a lot of smearing.

Outside of that my VR experience has been absolutely fantastic, perfectly smooth frame timing, 120FPS with cranked up settings and resolution. My router and connection is so stable I can reliably play with no Video buffering. I can play 120FPS with around 28ms of delay in most titles.

ALL that being said, H.264+ is by far the BEST. All the smudging I was seeing in distant objects, gone, blurring from fast moving busy scenes, gone. I've read AV-1 is better at color, but maybe I'm partially color blind because I can't tell the difference. VR games aren't very visually striking, so maybe in a AAA flat screen game you'd see the difference, but not for me.

H.264+ has been a game changer across all the VR games I play, super smooth, visuals are crisp, latency is still the same even with 500mbs vs the max of 200 with AV-1.

Don't know if this would help anyone struggling with wireless VR gaming being not so "Crisp" as one might expect. Again I was told and saw many people swearing by AV-1, but it hands down does not look as good as H.264+

That is all.

Edit: Since this is kinda getting some attention, I’d like to elaborate a bit more. People pointed out I’m not giving a lot of info on my set up so here’s that:

Quest 3
Virtual Desktop
5080 (overclocked)
7800x3d (PBO tuned)
32GB RAM @ 6000mhz (timing tuned)
Dedicated VR router BE9300
Windows 11 most recent build
Always use up to date drivers for Nvdia.

VD settings:
H.264+ @500mb
Adaptive Quantizaion
OpenXR runtime VDXR (some games don’t support this and it will switch automatically to what it does support)
Video Buffering off (recommend you have this on unless you have a dedicated VR router)
Godlike resolution setting
120FPS (90 if the game is super demanding)
AWS is always off (to me this is terrible and produces artifacts in most games)

As some comments mention, this is what works for me. AV-1 or any of the other codecs may be much better for you on your specific rig or game. However my set up currently is the best I could get it so far (could find other tweaks to make it better and am open to suggestions)

Minor issue with newly installed system.

I say this is minor only because it only happened once this morning, so far. It could end up being a big issue if it keeps up.

I have 3 outdoor cameras, all wireless, and all test excellent went doing the connection test.

One camera this morning didn’t give me a notification when passing in front of it, I tried viewing it live, and it wouldn’t respond.

Before heading to work I got my ladder out, twisted the head off, and back on, and it instantly popped up with the live view.

I’m trying not to view this as a bad omen, but I do not want this to be an occasional issue that other have experienced before. I’m only 3 days into this system so if it happens more I’d likely return the equipment.

Has anyone else had issues like this for their outdoor cameras?

What is also semi-alarming is the fact the app said the camera had WiFi signal, was at 98% battery, but gave no indication that it wasn’t working. I’d be upset in the future if I wanted it to capture something and it didn’t.

Thanks ~

Why when I look down, does my body rub side step almost EVERY TIME. It makes the game borderline unplayable.

I’ve messed with my height several times, but when I look down I either get a face full of my rig, or it shifts HARD to the left (rarely to the right) and I have to constantly put my hands in different positions to grab shit.

HOW DO I FIX THIS

When I reload the pistol, I hit the button to drop the mag, and I can hardly ever catch it in time. Feels like shit and very clunky to reload.

I’ve seen people do the “palm” reload but I also had no idea how to do that smoothly.

Any help?

Edit; ALSO is there a way to keep my body oriented forward? Sometimes when I look down to grab said mags I have to reach further because my body is super twisted
