Finally got my goose.
My family is already tired if listening me talk about hunting this year.
So, I shall share here.
I havent gotten a goose over water in quite some time. Mainly because the local public land spots seem to be barren of them or they are waaay off in a nearby non-accessible corner of a pond.
I decided to go and hit up Long Point on a day where the duck forecast was rather low and i had seen many geese over the past few months.
I spent the morning hunting a walk out blind where everything was flying too high to nake any ethical shot on. Around 10am I was able to swap out to a boat only blind, after a rather intense paddle (thanks to the wind and my 16' canoe) I found my little blind and was just getting settled when 2 geese started up clucking and honking just over the other side of the cattails. I managed to honk and cluck back a bit while getting set up, they took off literally as I was putting my first shell in and flew right over me at maybe 15'.
I managed to get 1 shot off with a perfect placement to the neck and the bird dropped directly into my canoe 5' away.
I didn't have yo go searching or blogging through marsh. Just a quick and easy kill. I stayed around for another hour or so to see if i could get any more but they birds were all going at height again.
