weird commercial, weirder presentation. hard pass

The visual messaging in that ad is definitely hitting a weird snag. You’ve accurately called out the core contradiction: they are trying to sell a rugged, off-road fantasy, but the framing makes the vehicle look like it's spinning its wheels in a ditch.

Car advertisements frequently rely on specific visual shorthand to convey performance metrics, but when the execution misses the mark, the imagery completely collapses into unintentional comedy.

1. The "Action Shot" Failure

The marketing team is attempting to showcase a high-torque torque split by capturing dirt kicking up from the tires—a standard industry trope meant to signal raw power and dynamic movement. However, because the vehicle is positioned statically on an incline with a massive cloud of dust concentrated entirely around the rear axle, the visual reading instantly skews toward a vehicle that has lost traction and is actively digging itself into a hole. Instead of conquering the wilderness, it looks like it needs a tow truck.

2. Marketing Psychology vs. Spatial Reality

Automotive ad campaigns are designed to target specific consumer demographics by appealing to an idealized lifestyle rather than technical specs. For a standard three-row crossover utility vehicle (CUV), the focus usually lands on family logistics, but manufacturers frequently use "off-road" staging to make the vehicle feel less like a traditional minivan and more like an untamed machine.

High-contrast, low-saturation color grading is used to imply grit and harsh conditions.

Low-angle camera placement is selected to make a standard unibody chassis look imposing.

The focus on a "V6 Engine" is a defensive marketing play to assure buyers the vehicle isn't underpowered, even if it spends 99% of its life in a suburban grocery store parking lot.

3. The Reddit Ad Metagame

The final layer of irony is the ad's placement on Reddit, accompanied by an AI-generated conversation summary claiming that "Redditors express appreciation" for the vehicle. Plunking a corporate, highly managed marketing campaign right below community tracking metrics creates massive cognitive dissonance. It attempts to mimic organic community consensus, but the artificial nature of the prompt stands out immediately against the backdrop of real forums.

2nd Opinion Needed! - 1990 Pathfinder

Hey folks, struggling a bit with the decision making process regarding a '90 Pathfinder on Craigslist. The wife and I are looking for something for me to wrench on and to get into some off road trouble with. We're quite keen on this one.

The Pros:

Exceptional interior & exterior
Mechanically mint
Very low mileage (86k kms)
One owner, grandma car, purchased locally
Long recorded service history
5-speed manual
All electronics functional

The Cons:

Rusty spots... but it's a 36 year old Japanese truck. My main concern is the flaking where the rear springs are (PIC 4)
Checked with a screwdriver - nowhere could be easily penetrated but some places were a little flakey. Overall the underside is cleaner than I expected but there are some problem points I'm worried about.

Rust repair in the drivers side rear door - possibly a pro? (PIC 6)

Original exhaust has rotted through and was replaced with some custom fab work. Doesn't look the greatest from the underside but is functional. Made sure to check for CO2 leaks. Doesn't seem like an issue. No ticking, no smell on the inside when running with the windows closed. Wouldn't surprise me if it needed more work in the future.

Hoping to get 5-10 years out of it. Please let me know if I'm worrying too much and this is to be expected or if these are serious concerns I should walk away from.

Willing to put some money and labor into it to keep it alive.

Thank you for your time.

2010 pathfinder blows fuel pump fuse

Recently purchased a pathfinder guy said fuel pump fuse keeps blowing. He had a new ecu programed for some reason since he thought that was the issue. What’s the best way to track down what the actual issue is. Does this generation have coil issues as well? Heard there is a tsb on em but can’t find anything. Got a hell of a deal paid a grand for it and it has 125k miles. Any recommendations welcome.

Considering a 2023-2024 Pathfinder

I am in the market to get mid-size SUV AWD/4WD and currently looking at the 2023-2024 Pathfinder. I really like the SL and Platinum trim levels and also like the Rock Creek model.

However, I've been reading a lot of comments in Reddit and other forums regarding an issue with roof leaks from the sunroofs and roof racks/rails. My question is. Are the water leaks just with trim levels with the sunroofs or all models regardless if they come equipped with sunroofs and roof racks/rails?

Any other known issues that would be reason to avoid a purchase?

Thanks,

Not Sure What To Do

So, I took my new Pathfinder in to get tinted this morning. Highly rated shop. Shit happened and when I went to pick up the car the manager came out and showed me that the tint guy had accidentally scratched the paint. It’s a deep, 1” scratch. They offered the tint for free OR to cover the cost to get it fixed. Needless to say I’m super bummed, this is my first new car and I hadn’t even considered it getting damaged in the shop but here we are.

Any guesses on what it would cost for a body shop to fix this? I’m trying to decide whether I should get the tint refunded or have them cover the body shop bill. Waiting on quotes but I’d like some opinions on what to do.

The tint looks great at least. My first tinted car 🚙

Help - 2022 Pathfinder SL "CPO"

Hi folks - I was aiming to purchase the car this week but a few things I'm having issues with the dealership on. To start, I completed a pre-purchase inspection at another dealership and it showed the bushings needed replacement and the volume knob required a software update.

  1. They insist I need to purchase the vehicle before they complete any more work

  2. I've already put $1k down with a sales agreement being written up tomorrow

Am I being paranoid that the dealer is being disingenuous? Why should I pay for the car before the work is completed? ChatGPT is advising NOT TO ACCEPT or PAY for the car BEFORE THE WORK IS COMPLETED.

What is the community's thoughts?

'22 w/24k miles off a lease.

Excited about my new pathfinder!

About to buy a pathfinder, 2014 with 67k miles on it. It's going to run me just under $10k - REALLY worried about transmission issues with the CVT and don't want to risk running into issues with it right after purchase. Thoughts on this?

It feels like the perfect family car within our budget - love Nissan as well - have a 2016 Sentra that has 110k on it and has been great (knock on wood)

Thoughts on this? would love to hear from the community before officially purchasing Monday.

Is the Pathfinder maintenance pretty easy to stay on top of?

Looking into the Pathfinder maintenance schedule and it seems pretty straightforward overall.

Basic service around every 10k miles, with bigger items like brake fluid and inspections spaced out over time.

For owners, has it been pretty easy to maintain or anything catch you off guard?

2025 Rock Creek Blown Engine 13K miles

Had my first major breakdown with my new Pathfinder. Driving on a long (12-hour) road trip, the engine blew. Only 13K miles on the car. Roadside assistance was great; they had a tow truck there within 2 hours. Pathfinder has been at the dealer for 24 days already, and they say it will be another week or two to get all the parts (Long Block engine). Looks like everything is covered under warranty, but I am questioning long-term reliability. I love the car and hope to keep it for a very long time, but I'm not sure what to expect with a new (at least I hope it is new and not a used) engine. Has anyone ever had a major issue early on in a vehicle's life and had the vehicle last? Would you keep or trade it in immediately? Are Local dealers even equipped and trained to do a complete engine swap in these new cars?

Rock Creek without Captain Chairs

Does anyone have the Rock Creek trim (or really any other trim) without the captain chairs and bench seat instead? Reasons you like it more other than needing it as an 8 seater vs 7. We are in the likely in the market for a 2026 Rock Creek and we don’t necessarily care about the premium package but think we want the captain chairs. Pathfinders no longer have captain chairs without the premium package which includes the heated steering wheel, moonroof, etc but the recent complaints about the sunroof leaking and having other issues has me a little hesitant.

Curious of others experiences and thoughts. Thanks
