Just finished the story this afternoon and wanted to tell you guys what I thought.

Definitely one of the best 007 games I’ve ever played. Solid gameplay, early devastating scene changing the trajectory of the story, highlighting the true nature of 007, ultimately and in the end, he is the one and only.

The banter throughout was top notch, very funny, great dynamics between characters, especially Greenway. The gameplay itself, the feel of headshots, focus mode, stealthily taking down enemies, darting them with an unknown green liquid, or just straight up bluffing them and strolling in with a big smirk. Very fun.

Some Incredibly memorable scenes and level designs, the bazaar, having to source the money mid chapter was fantastic. The chess tournament, I am a huge chess fan and loved the chess boards throughout the game (I counted 6). Overall, I think it was a solid 8/10 for me. I want to talk about what I felt was lacking.

I was slightly disappointed by some things, but I want to say before hand that these points may be clouded by the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia, so let’s dive in to it:

Queue, in my opinion, the best James Bond game ever made: 007 Everything or Nothing.

When I first heard that First Light was coming out, I was super excited and all I could think was

“I wonder if this game is gonna be as good as everything or nothing.” I wonder if this game is going to have intense motorcycle chases - a chimera motorcycle equipped with rockets by the way. A Q spider to infiltrate vents and blow up enemies, RC cars to survey the area before going in and deciding what course of action to take. Nano suits to turn invisible, or hey, how about an invisible Porsche Cayenne turbo, or what about an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish with EMP, missiles and machine guns, A helicopter level with missiles and bombs, tanks anyone? Would anyone like to drive around in a tank that has a Canon, Plasma Gun, and Nano shells? Does that sound fun, Bond? Yes that sounds like a fucking blast Q, thank you.

In comparison to first light, we get one car for a test drive in the academy (which I’m not sure what that was for given the only other car driving scene in the entire game was a pretty average getaway chase level. The other vehicles we were treated to were a fucking dump truck, a “speed”boat chase which was one of the most boring things in the whole game, and a huge caving truck (which admittedly was pretty baller) oh I’m sorry, I forgot about Q’s unbelievably cool rocket and machine gun equipped car that we got to drive in circles for 60 seconds at the very end of the game… come on.

I suppose I just expected more, and I expected better. The level choice just was not diverse enough for me. And when it was different, we didn’t get enough of that. The freefalling section was cool, but was over after 30 seconds, it seemed more like an interactive cutscene than a level.

In terms of actual gameplay as well, why can you not just run? What issue does this game have with 007 being able to just continuously sprint, especially when the level requires it. I found myself trying to mash R1 and fool the game because the game only wants you to do short bursts 2 seconds at a time, which becomes infuriating when you’re in often unavoidable fire fights surrounded by enemies who require 5 shots to bring down.

Lastly, the bosses. Disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, the bosses in Everything or nothing weren’t complicated or incredibly designed, then again, first light has had more than a decade to observe and design good boss fights. They just weren’t good.

So overall, it was good, but I had some real issues and think it could have been better.
