What's Your Favorite Character Designs and Why?

Making this post because of a previous post by Meatabogan: https://www.reddit.com/r/webtoons/s/FPiHe8wEhA

I had a few but I didn't want to post comment after comment.

Here they are.

1&2. Lenore Vandernacht - Nevermore: WHAT AN ENTRANCE. This woman is designed to the T. The first thing that intrigued me was that she was the only woman to not wear a petticoat in the academy, and she was still seen a lady. The reason became apparent with the flashbacks, but I just love the looks she's had in the webtoon. Especially the one I posted, as you can see. The silhouette is stunning and gotchic and poised. Lenore is charismatic and versatile and it shows in her entire design.

3. The Hoarder - On the Way to Meet Mom: I love the designs in this webtoon, and I love Mori's design, but this creepy hoarder right here in slide 3? He absolutely creeped me out but I COULD. NOT. LOOK. AWAY. The multiple arms(not shown in this image) the stare, the trinkets on his face? Everything was so bizarre and interesting. Then the designs of the

4. Aliens - On the Way to Meet Mom: I can't remember if this was the aliens or something else? But the gentleness of this design and illustration is what gets me. It's so soft as this being obliterates a missile into a black hole. Like they don't even know what it's meant to be. It's free of malice. A very different take to aliens than what I've had, so I was captivated by that.

5. The Ki Sisters - The Ki Sisters: I just really like their design 😂 pale, skinny and very very stand out features. 10/10

6&7. Se-Ul - The World of Dating: The style feels quite retro to me, and that makes me enjoy Se-Ul's design. I didn't have the images here but her style is just very different from what I see on most webtoons so she feels unique. And I love her tan skin, and those sharp eyes. All of it is just so nicely emphasized with the art style.

8&9. Mi-Ae - After School Lessons for Unripe Apples: Mi-Ae is simply drawn. But the looks given to her in the webtoon give her design a uniqueness that is hard to explain. It's malleable. She can go girly, and she can go tomboy and it's so satisfying to see the artist put her in different styles throughout reading. I also love her bangs that always seem to be doing something to her. It switches up her look without a drastic change and makes her so quirky.

10&11. Ricon - Suitor Armor: I enjoy every scene this man comes on. His poise, his line delivery(as I read it in my mind) and his arm. He is Loki, Scar, and every green eyed envious brother that fiction has ever written, and that is classic. But the effeminate charm that his long hair adds, especially when he's not out and manipulating people, it's so subtle and so charming.

12. Queen Mother of the West - King of the East: I'm a simple woman. I see a beautiful lady, I appreciate the beauty. And Ugh. Something about the Queen Mother's large feet makes me happy as a woman with large feet too. Then her build is absolutely fire. No notes. What else am I supposed to say?

13&14. Vanessa - Klimt's Kisses: Another case of loving the sharp eyes here. Vanessa's character looks icey, but the way that the creator is able to depict emotions make her remarks and snaps so satisfying and animated to read. I can hear the attitude behind them. The depth she displays beyond her pokerface is wholesome, but I still enjoy watching her put on the attitude.

15. Siru Gong - My Lucky Strike: I like a tall lady, Simply put, Siru's puffy under eyes and slightly masculine styles won me over. I just enjoy seeing her different outfits on my screen and plus, the girl's a looker 🙂‍↕️.

16&17. Kirsi - Suitor Armor: From 16-17... How?? That character development is award worthy and the change in design brings it all together. Her reveal in Episode 123 was crazy. WHO DECIDES TO KINTSUGI A HUMAN BEING?! Purpah, apparently and she knew what she was doing too. Amazing choice. I can't wait to see the character that Kirsi unfolds to be

18-20. The Wanderer - Space Boy: I love this character and I love his design just as much. All the indication of emotion I can find is in dialogue, body language and one single eye ball. The way his skeletal and translucent design complements his character. I can practically hear his tone when reading his scenes and Stephen did a great job making a design that projects this character to life so well.

Thank you all for reading. Let me know which of these is your favorite 🙂‍↕️

I have my thoughts on Manny. His character development and the turn he took after the accident sealed my feelings towards him. I enjoyed his scenes with his legs but after he lost them and cried over his sister it was even worse. I really enjoy characters with dimensions, that aren't/weren't perfectly great but are still likeable so naturally, I was torn for the young man.

And I believe we all know what happened next.

When I read it back in 2021, a friend of mine thought he deserved what he got and that he was a bad person. I completely disagree, but I'm here for opinions.

What do you think about Manny? Did he deserve his fate in the story?
