#ScreenshotSaturday – Készül a Danube Racing pálya a BRUTAL DERBY-hez!

A zenék Sunóval készülnek, a pályákhoz külön íratott dalszövegekkel.

Building Rainforest Rampage for Brutal Derby – my AI-assisted workflow

I've been working on Rainforest Rampage, one of the new arenas in my indie car-combat game, Brutal Derby.

For this map I wanted a dense forest/logging environment with muddy roads, cabins, rocks, fallen trees, logging structures and lots of environmental details — something completely different from my desert, snow and industrial arenas.

I'm developing the game solo, so AI has become a pretty important part of my workflow.

🤖 Some of the tools I'm using:

• Tripo AI – generating base 3D models and environment assets, which I then optimize, modify and integrate into the game.

• Suno – creating original music and experimenting with different soundtrack styles for the game.

• AI coding assistants – helping with Unity/C# development, prototyping systems, tools, shaders and speeding up repetitive programming work.

• AI image generation – concept art, references, textures, UI ideas and references for 3D asset generation.

The final level design, terrain, lighting, vegetation, asset placement, gameplay, optimization and integration are all done in Unity 6.5.

AI doesn't build the game for me — but it lets me work more like a small team while still being a solo developer.

Rainforest Rampage is still WIP, but it's already becoming one of my favorite arenas in the game.

I'd be interested to hear how other solo developers are using AI in their production pipelines.

AI helped me build local co-op for my Unity car combat game – but it definitely wasn’t “one prompt and done”

The game has been built in Unity with AI heavily involved in the development workflow, and local multiplayer turned out to be one of the more interesting systems to implement.

Two players can now play together locally, while the arenas still have AI opponents, weapons, pickups, destruction and all the usual chaos.

I’m trying to use AI for actual production work rather than just generating a quick prototype, and this project keeps reminding me how much integration, testing and manual work is still needed even with AI helping.

Brutal Derby is still in development, but local co-op is finally working.

For other AI-assisted solo devs: have you tried implementing split-screen or local multiplayer with AI coding tools? How much did they actually help?

Day 53 of developing BRUTAL DERBY - Soft-body deformation, Bounty mode, Local CO-OP and already 7 derby arenas!

Day 53 of developing BRUTAL DERBY - Soft-body deformation, Bounty mode, Local CO-OP and already 7 derby arenas!

Another 11 days have passed, and quite a lot has been added to the game again.

A bunch of new weapons have been added, and the entire weapon system has been reworked. Weapons are now divided into 3 different categories, giving you a lot more options when it comes to destroying the competition.

There are currently 7 different derby arenas in the game, and one of the newest ones is now mostly finished: Heroes' Square in Budapest!

A completely new game mode has been added: BOUNTY.

There is always one designated target that everyone has to hunt down. Once the target is eliminated, a new one is selected, while everyone else is still trying to take you out at the same time.

I'm now somewhere around the 7th or 8th iteration of the damage and deformation system. I've implemented a new soft-body system, but I also kept the previous hybrid solution. For now, you can switch between Legacy / Hybrid and Soft Body directly from the menu.

LOCAL CO-OP is now working too!

Two players can play together on PC using keyboard + controller, or 2 controllers.

I've also done a lot of optimization work behind the scenes. The game now runs noticeably smoother, even while playing directly inside the Unity Editor.

And of course, I'm still adding new arenas, weapons, game modes and other crazy stuff.

53 days of development. 7 derby arenas. More weapons. Soft-body deformation. Local CO-OP. And it's still far from finished.

Day 43 of developing BRUTAL DERBY - New map: Pittsburgh Iron Arena!

Another new arena template is taking shape: Pittsburgh Iron Arena.

This time, we’re going to derby on a huge construction site.

There will be ramps, jumps, construction equipment, obstacles and plenty of other little surprises to make the chaos even worse.

These maps are still templates for now, so they’re not fully detailed yet. My current approach is to first build the overall atmosphere, layout and gameplay, then spend more time polishing the ones that actually feel fun to play.

I’ve also started using more and more of my own reference photos for the environments.

Whenever I see something interesting in real life, I take a photo and it might eventually become a 3D model in the game.

For example, I’ve been photographing construction sites along the Buda side of the Danube, industrial details, and some beautiful old buildings around Budapest.

At this point, whenever I’m walking around the city, I’m basically thinking:

"Would this look good in Brutal Derby?"

I’m also planning something much bigger - a proper race track along the Danube in Budapest.

There’s a particular section of the riverfront that I really like, and I think it could make a great location for a race.

Of course, building a proper race track takes significantly more time than creating a relatively simple circular derby arena, so that one will probably be a bigger project.

For now though, it’s time for some construction-site chaos in the Pittsburgh Iron Arena.

As always, feedback and ideas are very welcome!

I started making a destruction derby game 40 days ago – here’s what changed this week

40 days ago I started building Brutal Derby as a solo developer.

I posted some progress here before, and first of all: thanks for all the feedback. I got some genuinely useful suggestions from the comments, so I’ve been trying to incorporate some of them into the game.

This is what I worked on during the last week:

2 new arena/track templates: Frozen and Vulcan

4 new cars, although they still need quite a bit of work

A new damage silhouette showing the current state of your car

Version 6 of my destruction and deformation system

Finally fixed a major bug in the destruction system that had been giving me trouble for a while

Added helicopters and aircraft flying around the arenas

Added spatial 3D audio for the crowd – when you drive past the stands, you can actually hear the crowd move from one side to the other

Lots of smaller fixes and polish

The destruction system has probably been the biggest rabbit hole so far.

I thought I had it working several versions ago, then kept finding situations where cars would deform or break in ways I didn't want. I'm now on version 6, and after fixing one particularly nasty bug this week, it's finally getting much closer to what I originally had in mind.

Still a lot to do, especially on the new cars and arenas, but this is where the project is after 40 days of development.

I'm also happy to steal... I mean, carefully consider... more ideas from the comments. :)

What would you add to a destruction derby / car combat game like this?

  • A közönség spatial 3D hangzást kapott: amikor elhaladsz a lelátók mellett, ténylegesen hallod, ahogy a közönség hangja jobbról balra vagy balról jobbra mozog

I just Vibe coded this Wreckfest + Death Rally combo game in 32 days

I've been working on Brutal Derby for 32 days now, usually around 10-12 hours a day, often including weekends. I'm a bit obsessed with it at this point.

The project has also become an experiment for me: how far can you actually take game development in 2026 using an AI-heavy, vibe coding workflow?

Here are some of the things that have been added or heavily improved recently:

New crowd system:

I think this is version five at this point. I've been constantly trying to find a solution that looks decent without destroying performance when there are 20+ cars on screen.

Dynamic weather:

The game currently has sunshine, rain and storms with smooth transitions between them, plus daytime and evening conditions. Snow is planned as well.

Destruction:

At this point, almost everything on the cars can break. Parts and smaller debris can fly off, windows shatter, the body deforms and gets crushed, bullet holes remain visible, and there are also lasers, rockets and other weapons.

Cars can even split apart in several different ways depending on the damage and impact.

Garage and customization:

You can now paint the cars, apply patterns and put various ridiculous objects on their roofs.

Tracks:

There is currently 1 race track and 3 playable derby arenas. The newest one is a volcanic arena surrounded by lava, although that one still needs more optimization.

Performance:

The game is already running pretty well with 24 cars. Most systems have gone through several optimization passes, but it's an endless cycle. Add a new feature, profile it, optimize it, then move on to the next feature.

A lot of people have also asked where the models come from.

It's a mixture. I use purchased assets that I modify in Blender, some models are commissioned from 3D artists, and I also use Tripo3D. Tripo is mostly useful for smaller or more distant objects, but even those usually need work afterwards. Mesh cleanup, textures and optimization still generally end up being done in Blender.

And then there's the vibe coding part.

As a programmer, I used to write everything manually. With this project, I actually type very little code myself anymore.

Codex writes most of the code, while I spend much more of my time designing the systems, testing the results, profiling performance, finding problems and iterating.

That doesn't mean I can just write one prompt and magically get a finished game.

For the more complicated systems, especially physics, deformation, destruction and optimization, we sometimes go through 4-5 completely different implementations before arriving at something that both works correctly and performs well with 24 cars running at once.

For me, that's actually one of the most interesting parts of this entire project.

I want to see how far I can take a real 3D game while letting AI handle most of the traditional code writing, and shifting my own work more towards design, architecture, testing, profiling and iteration.

32 days. 10-12 hours a day. Often weekends too.

There's still a huge amount of work left, but Brutal Derby is slowly starting to become the game I had in my head when I started.

I'm also curious what other developers think about this kind of workflow.

BRUTAL DERBY, 32. fejlesztési nap + tester keresés

32 napja kezdtem el a Brutal Derby fejlesztését, és azóta napi 10-12 órát dolgozom rajta, sokszor hétvégén is. Mondhatjuk, hogy kicsit fanatikus vagyok.

Gondoltam, mutatok egy helyzetjelentést arról, hol tart most a játék.

Megint új közönség került a játékba.

Elkészült a dinamikus időjárás.

A rombolás is rengeteget fejlődött.

A garázs is kezd összeállni.

Jelenleg 24 autóval is egészen szépen fut a játék.

A Codex a feladatok nagy részét megcsinálja.

32 nap. Napi 10-12 óra. Sokszor hétvégén is.

Some new screenshots from my game called Brutal Derby :)

For coding I totally used Codex and GPT 5.6 sol. For modelling I used a little Blender, but sometimes I just used Tripo3D for smaller objects. AI is fast, but it is hard to make a game like this at the moment. I have 9+ years experienced in unity. The project uses unity 6.5 URP.

22. nap - Brutal Derby fejlesztési napló

Háááááát ez egy gyors csata volt. Brutal Derby!

Kíváncsi vagyok mások tapasztalatára is.

Akik készítettek már saját projektet vagy SaaS-t:

nektek mi volt a legnehezebb része? A fejlesztés vagy az első felhasználók megszerzése?

What building an AI SaaS alone taught me

During the last four months I've been building an AI interview platform called MockFox.

As a solo developer I handled:

  • Next.js frontend
  • FastAPI backend
  • AI interview generation
  • Speech-to-text
  • Text-to-speech
  • Stripe subscriptions
  • Cloud deployment
  • SEO

The technical challenges were fun.

Marketing has been much harder than coding.

I'm curious:

As technical founders, what was the biggest non-technical lesson you learned after launching?

reddit.com
u/Dense-Bar-2341 — 4 months ago

430 cold LinkedIn messages later... here's what I learned.

I recently started reaching out to HR professionals to validate my AI interview platform, MockFox.

So far I've sent around 430 LinkedIn messages.

The results?

  • Around 15 people actually logged in.
  • Several recruiters gave useful feedback.
  • The conversations were far more valuable than I expected.

My biggest takeaway is that customer conversations improve the product much faster than building new features in isolation.

It's still early, but I'm slowly shifting my focus from B2C to B2B.

How much outreach did it take before you landed your first paying customer?

reddit.com

I built an AI interview platform in 4 months as a solo developer.

I've spent the last four months building MockFox, an AI-powered interview platform.

I'm a solo developer, so everything-from frontend and backend to AI integrations and infrastructure -was built by me.

The biggest surprise wasn't the technology.

It was learning that shipping the product is only the beginning.

Finding users, collecting feedback and convincing people to try something new has taken much more effort than I expected.

I'm currently validating the product with HR professionals instead of only focusing on job seekers, and the conversations have been much more promising.

If you're building a micro SaaS:

When did you know you had real product-market fit?

Building SaaS was easy. Finding customers is the real challenge.

Four months ago I started building an AI interview platform called MockFox.

Like many founders, I thought the hard part would be building the product

It wasn't.

The real challenge has been getting people to actually use it.

During the last few weeks I've learned a few things:

  • Building with AI is faster than ever.
  • SEO takes much longer than I expected.
  • Paid ads can become very expensive very quickly.
  • Cold outreach is mentally exhausting.
  • Talking to potential customers is far more valuable than building another feature.

I initially focused on job seekers (B2C), but after talking with recruiters I'm starting to think the bigger opportunity is helping HR teams screen candidates with AI interviews.

If I could start again, I'd spend much less time coding and much more time validating the idea.

For those of you already running SaaS businesses:

What actually got you your first 10 paying customers?
