Career advice

Hey everyone! I could really use some advice from people who are already in the editorial/fashion world.
I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for about a year now. I’ve assisted in salons, done some weddings, photoshoots, and I got to assist backstage at NYFW . I definitely have some experience, but not nearly as much as I’d like, and I’m trying to figure out how to actually get back into the industry. (I took a 6 mo break due to surgery)

I have POTS, so working long salon shifts isn’t something my body handles very well. I’ve realized that I genuinely love being on set and doing editorial work way more than being behind the chair all day.

I’ve started reaching out to hairstylists, salons and agencies but haven’t heard back yet. I know networking is a huge part of this industry, but sometimes it feels like I need more experience to get opportunities, but I need opportunities to get more experience. And I just relocated to another state so I don’t know anyone in my area..

For the people who do editorial full-time (or even part-time), how did you get your foot in the door? How did you start meeting the right people and getting consistent assisting jobs? Is there anything you wish you would’ve done earlier in your career?
I’m more than willing to assist, learn, travel, and put in the work. I just don’t really know what the next step should be, and I’d love to hear what worked for you.
Thanks in advance! 🤍

Hair thinning after surgery

I got surgery almost 2 months ago, and ever since then my hair has been coming out clumps at a time every time I wash it. I literally cry whenever I’m washing my hair because it piles up on my hands and it feels like a nightmare. I feel so insecure and Im confused and lost because this has never happened to me before. My past surgery makes my 8th surgery on my ear and I’ve never experienced it being this severe and lasting. I made an appointment with my PCP to get blood work done but I’m just wondering if there’s anything else I could do to help my hair come back and prevent it from continuing to fall out.

Just turned 21 and this will be my first time moving out of Arabi. Wondering where to look in the city, I’ve been on a bunch of websites online but I know everything isn’t on there. I’m a young woman and will be living by myself so I just want to know what neighborhoods yall recommend and places to avoid. I have a car but I do love walking so preferably somewhere that’s a good area to explore on my own. The most I’d pay is maybe 1800 a month.
