9 weeks out, white spot

9 weeks out, white spot

Hi everyone, I’m nine weeks out of having open carpal tunnel surgery on my dominant hand. The incision has taken a long time to heal. The scar is a long white line with redness on the sides. At the top, the white part is more prominent as you can see from the photo it’s more like a bump. No matter how much I massage it, that part really stings. It’s also quite hard to touch, kinda like I’m pinching every time I touch it. Did anyone have anything like this?

Does anyone want to see Jojo at the CNE August 29?

Hi everyone! I'm 39F and love the singer Jojo (Levesque, not Siwa). She's performing at the bandshell at the CNE on August 29 (time tbd?) I'd love to go with a group of women around my age who also are fans, as I don't have any friends who are into her. I had originally posted this with a link to the event, but it was taken down...so I guess just google Jojo and CNE. Their website doesn't have too many details up just yet.

Not going to lie, I don't understand how the bandshell works (i.e. do we have to go early, line up, sit all day, etc?) but I do know that the concert is free with admission, and supposedly there's a Presto card discount for daily admission, so it shouldn't be too pricy. Is anyone interested?

Ninja Blendboss q's

Hi all,

Just got the Ninja Blendboss at Costco. Great deal. I have some q's for others who have it. When I make a smoothie, I open the cup up and taste it, and add ingredients as needed. But when I open the cup, liquid always drips down the side, mostly from the blade base. Does anyone have a solution for this?

An issue I had with my old ninja blender is the silicone ring inside the blade base would get food stuck in it and it was almost impossible to pull it out safely and clean it. The blendboss blade base is different. I see some silicone but not sure how I'd get it out to clean it. Any issues?

The cups say they're dishwasher safe in the open position, top rack only. They're too tall for my top rack. Has anyone put them 'open side' down on the lower rack? Any issues? I don't want to break them or anything.

I also took the little silicone sleeve off of the bottom of the cup...hopefully that's no problem? I just know that it's going to get moldy underneath with constant washing. Anyone else do that? I won't actually be using the cup to drink the smoothie as I like to clean it right away most of the time, in order to stop the plastic from taking on the scent of whatever I've made. That was a huge issue I had with my old ninja.

Thanks in advance, users!

Breaking up scar tissue

Hi all! How long did it take you to break up the scar tissue after your carpal tunnel surgery?

For context, my surgery was 8 weeks ago. I wasn’t able to do enough massaging on my scar because after the stitches came out, I had tons of dry skin and some areas of the incision that kept opening up, so massaging the scar pulled on the tissue too much, and eventually I got an infection in one of the open parts of the incision.

Now that the infection has healed and I can start massaging vigorously, I’m in a ton of pain due to the stitches that are still trying to dissolve in the layer under the top scar. I feel like I’m pricking and pinching myself every time I massage. I do it as much as I can tolerate, but am waiting on ultrasound results to ensure I’m not overly irritating the healing tissue. I just didn’t expect to have so much scar tissue and for it to take this long to break up. I don’t want to have permanent scar tissue and feel like maybe I waited too long (though I technically didn’t have a choice). I also use silicone scar tape when not massaging, and a hand therapy ball to massage and do exercises through the day. I’d love to know how long it’s taken others. Thanks in advance!

Spitting stitches?

I’m 7 weeks post op. Since the start, the top of my incision had a large knot of stitches, covered with a lot of dry skin. Once the stitches came out, the area looked like an inflamed bubble, and it kept getting worse instead of better. The area also didn’t close for quite some time. It then got infected, and I had to have the area drained. Once it healed from being drained, it still look like a bubble and the area really stings and pinches. It almost feels like I have a piercing in the middle of my hand. Then I started noticing little white dots in that bubble as well as two areas below it. Since my Clinic can never fit me in, I googled it and it seems like stitch pimples, or spitting stitches. Originally, when my doctor didn’t know I had an infection she had said to use warm compresses. But now I’m not really sure what I should be doing? She likely won’t be able to see me for a few days. I’m in a lot of pain.

After the infection, I was advised to keep the area dry and covered and just wash it a couple times a day, but not soak it. Now I’ve been using warm compresses for about four days and they actually helped to get the middle bit of stitching out but I still see a white dot so I know there’s more under there. I wonder if I should actually be leaving this open in the shower and trying to steam it out? The issue is that the skin around it keeps peeling and I’m not really sure why. It feels like my skin is being ripped apart at all times whenever I put any Vaseline or Polysporin on it, the little white dots go back into their shell. I’m literally going crazy. Any help would be much appreciated!

Massaging carpal tunnel incision

Does anyone have tips for how to massage a carpal tunnel incision? I’m four weeks post surgery and at the two week mark, my surgeon said I should start massaging the area, including over the scar. Unfortunately, it was just too tender to massage over the scar because not only was there a ton of dry skin that was pulling, but the fresh skin that was growing was just so sensitive to the touch.

Now that I’m at four weeks, the incision is super hard. I’m assuming that that is scar tissue. It still feels uncomfortable to massage over it but I can do so. I’m wondering if there’s any techniques that I can do to break up the scar tissue. Has anyone had a similar issue, or am I too late to the game? I worry I missed out by just massaging the sides of the scar and not actually on top of the scar for the past few weeks.

Three weeks post surgery…

Hi everyone. I’ve been writing post throughout my recovery so I thought I would do an update. I’m three weeks post open carpal tunnel release on my dominant hand. Last last week, I had my postop and my surgeon said everything was looking good. She said that the incision did open up, which was what was worrying me about 10 days into recovery. But she wasn’t worried, of course I am.

I have a lot of dry, dead skin around the incision. Some of the incision still looks pretty deep and it’s really sensitive anything that’s covered by dead. Skin is healing nicely. But sometimes it feels like the dead skin is rubbing against it even when I keep it moist with Vaseline. I did cut a little bit of the dead skin off one area kind of in the middle and you’ll see that it’s exposed. That skin in that middle area is really raw and red and shiny. It really really hurts me, is super sensitive, and stings. Rest assured, I didn’t cut all the way over to where it’s attached to my skin, I only cut some of the sharp dry edges off.

It still hurts to do anything where I need to grip with my hand, including using a mouse, or mixing things in a bowl with a spoon. It really really hurts to massage the area, but my surgeon said that I should be massaging the area over the scar. I just find that when I’m doing so, it opens up the area a little too much and pulls at the dead skin. She even said I could be using scar tape, which I think is crazy because that would rip off the dead skin. I will say different moves make my hand tingle around the scar and that freaks me out. Because tingling was my main issue with carpal tunnel, even though this is different, and I know that the area is healing, the tingling just scares me. Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Cut at the top of my incision

Hi everyone,

I had carpal tunnel surgery, exactly one week ago on my dominant hand. As the Steri-Strips have been peeling back, today in the shower enough peeled off that I could see that above my first stitch the incision is open. It doesn’t look much worse than a little bit of a deeper paper cut, but of course I’m still paranoid and nervous. When I peel back the strips a little more where it’s rolling off, I can see that there’s more cuts. This center of the Steri-Strip is completely stuck down to the point where it is stinging because it’s pulling my skin and it’s mostly dried blood that is stuck so it’s also itchy but if I were to literally peel off the Steri-Strip, it would all be open wounds and it would hurt really badly. I was told to just let it fall off on its own, which is what the top and bottom of the strip were doing.

At the bottom of the incision, I can see a stitch and it is perfectly intact. It’s just the top of the incision and potentially the middle. Does anyone have any suggestions? Other than putting a clean sterile Band-Aid over it? Should I use an antibiotic ointment like Polysporin? Any tips would really help thanks so much everyone.

Five days out of surgery…

I just have a few questions:
I know I’m not allowed to do any heavy lifting, but am I allowed to wear a backpack with my laptop in it? Will having something on my shoulder affect the wrist?
My surgeon says I can go back to work, but I don’t understand how I can type at this point. My wrist is so stiff still. Instructions they sent me home with say to move my hand around, but that this doesn’t apply if you had surgery for nerve pain. But my surgeon did say just go back to normal. I’m so confused?
Lastly, there’s tons of dried blood under the Steri-Strips. Other than washing it every day, any tips to get it out because it’s getting itchy? Thanks in advance everyone!

Was anyone at Schmigadoon tonight?

Hi all! Was anyone at Schmigadoon tonight? I love Kaleigh Cronin and would have loved to see her take on Melissa. I also wonder how they handled her scenes where she says 'I'm not pregnant, I have an IUD' when she is very clearly pregnant in real life? I wonder if they had some different text for her? I feel like they're so innovative, but would love to hear what they came up with. If anyone saw her as Mildred, I'd love to hear how she was, too. Yay for understudies!!

Hi all! Having surgery on my dominant hand in two weeks. I’m so nervous, but they’re going to give me anesthesia so I’m happy about that. Supposedly it’s usually done while awake!

Looking for tips post op. I live alone but will be staying with fam for about a week. I’ve taken 3 days off work. Here are some questions:

- how soon can I type or use my mouse?

- how do we brush our teeth with the other hand? Or use the bathroom?!

- do I need to sleep on my back to keep my arm raised?

- how do I get dressed, esp putting on a bra?

Any other hot tips?

Thanks so much in advance!!
