I am questioning my life choices. 😭

When I decided to make my aunt a cat blanket in her living room colors, I had no idea the bobbin and end-weaving hell I was getting myself into.

"Make a graphgan" they said. "It'll be fun" they said.

And at first, it was.

But now, NOW, as I cuss at the bobbins that tangle or are too heavy or aren't full enough so they run out, and the ends that I can't weave as I go, I have a growing sense of dread.

And as the throw grows, oh so slowly, and I can see that the original pattern is not going to be big enough, I weep quietly into my working skein while winding yet another interminable bobbin, only to find the mistake I made the previous row.

I am thus inspired to use an alliterative adjective to describe my frogging...

LC Brain Trust: I need your advice!

I am fairly new to baking, but have decided this weekend to up my game to a more traditional sourdough recipe rather than the easy basic one because I bought bread flour that I recently discovered and love from a heritage flour Mom & Pop mill.

Their recipe says to preheat my dutch oven to 500°F for 30 minutes, then put ice cubes in it just before adding my dough.

I seem to recall reading in this sub that dramatic temperature changes can crack the enamel and ruin my LC.

This company is an awesome small business that I love to support, but they aren't really bakers. They fell into this themselves after looking for more digestible grains for health reasons.

I don't have enough experience or knowledge with baking, especially real sourdough, to know if this is ok to skip, ok to do despite the usual warning against rapid temperature change, or if it's even needed because I live in Florida (high humidity) and the shop owners who developed the recipe live in a cooler, drier climate (Minnesota).

For reference, my easy sourdough recipe that I have done frequently usually doubles in size in 45 minutes on my kitchen counter during the first rise.

HALP! (Photo of my dough just starting bulk fermentation, no stretch & folds yet)

Thank you for this book recommendation

I can't find the thread now, but fairly recently someone recommended this book in the comment section of one of the threads.

Friend, thank you. I am new to sashiko and have not tried it yet. This book is transformative. The history, tradition, cultural context and spirituality of the practice make this craft much more meaningful than a fun pastime.

I look forward to the journey as well as the destination now. And - I'm making this my book club choice next month.

Thanks again!

Mexican (Michoacan) doily patterns/motifs that are not Day of the Dead?

Hi crochet friends.

I've been looking at doily patterns trying to find something that has a recognizable Mexican motif (not colors but patterns), bonus if it's Michoacan. Not Day of the Dead.

I'm willing to pay for the right pattern. Skill level probably intermediate, but it will be my first doily. I have been crocheting for decades but usually keep to simple stitches/patterns.

Does such a motif exist, maybe in Spanish language patterns that aren't coming up in my English language searches?

I'm wanting to make a Christmas colored doily to go under a nice potted plant or on a side table for a good friend /chismosita. 😉. I already have the Christmas crochet thread.

She loves her plants and flowers, loves her dog, loves her family, practicing Catholic, originally from Michoacan but has lived in the U.S. for roughly 45 years.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Meghan Markle is her own biggest security threat

Kinsey Schofield interviews a security expert who explains to all of us non-Hollywood types just how much jeopardy Meghan is putting herself and her family in with her behaviors and social media posts. 42 minute video.

This also damages their RAVEC request and alleged attempt to regain IPP status.

Although the focus is on Meghan Markle, I actually learned a lot about personal social media posts when I was already pretty savvy about it.

Found Meghan Markle's new secret collab.

The ad is real, from my reddit feed.

The collab part is entirely made up by me. Bet it was your first thought, too! 😆

I had no idea this was a thing! Now I *really* need to get started on a dollhouse!

And oh my, I want ALL THE PYREX MINIATURES!

I looked online and there are several individual creators and a couple retail stores that sell them.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS IS A THING??? 🤩😍🤩🤩🤩

Although the fact that KC3 won't meet Harry has already been reported, JJ & Mark on The Daily Expresso bring the snark with considerable humor.

The epic snub snark runs for the first 7.5 minutes before branching off into politics for the rest of the video.

One note to our foreign friends: it is *not* a quick plane flight between California on the west coast to Washington, DC on the east coast. The plane ride is about 6-7 hours itself, not including travel time to/from the airport and boarding/ disembarking from the plane itself.

If you've never visited our great country, it is really difficult to fathom the immense size of it. It was one of the hardest things to convince people, especially Europeans, when I worked in the international students office at a university, that you MUST have a car in the U.S. unless you are living in the heart of New York City or a few of our other large cities.
