we all know that merlin is still alive in 2026, but do you think he still goes by merlin? or emrys? the arthurian legends probably exists in universe, it would be a very unique name (i think). if not, what name would be go by?
i’m writing a fanfiction and i need a better understanding of organized crimes in the harry potter universe. of course, there’s dark wizards and death eaters, but i was thinking more of “traditional crimes” and less crimes against humanity.
something like idk smuggling cursed objects or drugs. is there anything canon about this? if not, i need something that is canon-like. i mean, if there’s a crime there will be an organized crime.
i’ve had this problem with a marauders fanfiction i was writing too, where the black family was involved in some kind of wizard mafia, but i couldn’t provide details because i can’t think of anything that would require a massive organization. i don’t know a lot about actual organized crime so i can’t even transfer real world knowledge in my fanfiction and change the names.

What are your thoughts on the trial trope? And do you have any tips for writing it? I personally love the trials trope and I’m writing a novel with it but I’m scared I won’t be able to execute it in a way that isn’t banal. The first draft is already written and as I’m editing I’m starting to feel like I should scrap it and rewrite from the start. I mean, I have the why, how and what for but it’s the what itself that I don’t like. The trials look bad and I can’t understand why, plus I can’t find anything about the trials trope that isn’t a book rec or a ranking of the ten worst fantasy tropes. I really need help.
I joined Ao3 in 2021, after years of Wattpad. I don’t know if people used to comment more on Ao3 before I joined, but I remember tons of funny comments on Wattpad in every single fic!! People read fanfictions just to comment and read comments! Now, dead silence. Even on Wattpad, I was curious about a fic I found on TikTok and I don’t usually do it, but I started reading it on Wattpad and I absolutely couldn’t find those spirited commenters that made fandoms so lived in and funny.
I have 7 works posted on Ao3, all with a humble number of hits and kudos, I very rarely get comments and they really encourage me to write more when I do. In 2023, I got a comment on a fic I had practically abandoned and I finished it in the span of two weeks.
Not getting comments or feedbacks is very frustrating, like talking to a wall. I comment under every fic I come across, even one emoji is enough. Comments are FREE. So are kudos!! So comment on people’s fics, PLEASEE
