[FO4] A Fallout4Custom.ini set up for Modding and how to deal with your Video Card.

"This walkthrough explains how to edit the Fallout 4 Fallout4Custom.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini files to get you set up for modding and improve performance."

These steps work regardless of whether you are modding your game OR you’re playing completely Without Mods.

Now before I go on, I’ll warn of the danger of this is real. When I started playing 76 my friend was like the god rays in this game is killing me. Well we followed a guide his went well and mine didn't. I ended up losing my water graphic. Now I did get it back but it took me taking my just built Fallout4Custom.ini and using that as a templet witch was an eye opener if anything finding I've was using old outdated standers. I needed this to happen in the end so whatever.

  • Fallout4Custom.ini: The Wastelander's Tool Kit. - Built as a light Custom.ini that fits well with Mods that deal with the .ini, Graphics, and lighting. Nvidia friendly.
  • The Nvidia.ini Guide
  • Mo2 Users the Fallout4Custom.ini goes in you Profile Specific .ini placement that's in MO2 setting.
  • Vortex is Fine to follow this Fallout4Custom.ini Walkthrough.
  • If you get High FPS Physics Fix Mod this should take over the steps of capping your Max FPS in the Video Card section. Setting the HightFPSPhysicsFix.ini is the way to do this from now on. You'll need to set the Video Cards Max FPS to Off.

Fallout4Prefs.ini

Looking where to go (Don't get it mixed up with the right click Steam local files this is important but not for this).

Go to> This PC > C: Drive /user/Your Name/Documents/My Game/Fallout4 and your there. The Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini and the soon to be Fallout4Custom.ini will be here,

In your Fallout4Prefs.ini Document you should change iPresentInterval to 0 to unlock the games framerate. Open Fallout4Prefs.ini in your notepad hit Ctrl + F should bring up the find box under Edit button. Copy and paste iPresentInterval into the find box Change iPresentInterval=1 to 0 (you don’t need to change any other settings other than your Fallout4Custom.ini) Save this change.

  • Warning: Do not set your Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Prefs.ini and Fallout4Custom.ini to "Read-Only," as this is a bad old practice and will lock you out of your Mod Managers.

This is the way, in Steam right clicking your game, go to Properties> Steam update> to Update only when I run the game through steam. Now if you update your Graphics setting or start the game throught steam this will reset you Fallout4Prefs.ini setting. What F4SE does is Hijack the Fallout4.exe from steam.

  • If steam ever tricks you and you game with an update and it feels slower you may need to go back to redo Fallout4Prefs.ini as steam may have reverted these settings only.
  • Warning: change the iPresentInterval=0 your tuning in game frames rate off to correctly set the games FPS use Video Card Section Max FPS OR High FPS Physics Fix if you want over 60 fps.
  • Do not skip ~Video Card~

Video Card

  • The Global Settings - should not be changed much as it deals with your whole computer.
  • The Program Settings - is the safer option, as this deals with the Game only.
  • The Game was meant to be played in Fullscreen mode for the best preformence.
  • AMD users have a similar way.

At the bottom right of the screen click show hidden icons Right click Nivida- Control panelmanage 3d settings you can optimize your video card here as a whole in the Global Settings (suggested to look but don’t change to much other than the Power Settings to Max and your Shade Cache Size to 10 GB) (If you have 8 ram on your computer do 5GB) Next.

Click Program Settings to the right of Global Settings,

1. select a program needs to have Fallout 4 (fallout4.exe) this is where you tell it what game you're dealing with (I think I had to click the box under the 1. show only programs for it to pop up but you might not have this problem)

2. Box, scroll till you see max frame rate and set it to 60 (OR Turn This to Off and use the High FPS Physics Fix Mod own .ini to set your FPS). Not over 120 (you can go higher then this) but this is what I have gathered, Bethesda code can’t keep up well and the lower the setting the easer it will be for the game to run.

  • Finding where you’re looking to go. Now don't get it mixed up with the right click Steam > games local files. Now go to, This PC, click your C: Drive C: /user/Your Name/Documents/My Game/Fallout4 and your there. Fallout4.ini and Fallout4prefs.ini and the soon to be Fallout4Custom.ini leave this open.

The [Archive] is the only thing you need if you plan on using Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor) Description tab has the installation guide and Video Guide.

[Archive]

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

sResourceDataDirsFinal=

  • Do Not copy other .ini. When you're done creating you're BethiniPie.ini there will be a skip to.
  • Vortex Users: Auto-download the mod, and then add it to your Dashboard Tools.
  • MO2 Users: download the mod, and then add it to your Executables List.
  • Must be run Once and Linked to Fallout4.exe in Steam's Folders.

Making the Fallout4Custom.ini

  1. Open the Start Menu, type Notepad, and press Enter.
  2. Now Copy Paste the below Fallout4Custom .ini into your Notepad OR the above .ini.
  3. Go to File > Save As.
  4. Find desktop on the left click this 1st.
  5. Then you Must make the File Name > Fallout4Custom.ini
  6. Crucial Step: In the "Save as type" dropdown, select All Files (.).
  7. A new Document should be on your Desktop Name Fallout4Custom.ini should have a little paper with a gear in front of it.
  • This is a good base line ini this doesn't get rid of anything from the game and should help you stabilize your fps and can be lowered to your computers standers if need.

The Fallout4Custom.ini do not copy me

  • Deals with how things load in on the map (and can cause the most problems when set to low or high)

MeshLODLevel1FadeDist and fMeshLODFadeBoundary should match if you're using low fMeshLODLevel2FadeDist setting.

OR split like this if you're using bigger fMeshLODLevel2FadeDist setting (think Pong and the ball is fMeshLODFadeBoundary).

  • fMeshLODLevel1FadeDist=2028.0000
  • fMeshLODFadeBoundary=2400.0000
  • fMeshLODLevel2FadeDist=3000.0000

Tips

The Custom.ini are all about the [Headers] and what's under them... you can leave it as is, from the Copy Paste or you can bring them together under the Headers but don't delete any of the code (it’s safer to leave it as is), or tinker till you like it.

This is to show a safe working Falllout4Custom.ini and give a base to anyone who wishes to make it your own.

Good Luck out there Wastlander's.

No, getting into modding will not feel easy but it will get easier. Here is some common mistakes I've made that is Programs (x86). All guides go throught this. It's the (x86) part that has the most restrictions.

~Steam wrongly placed~

I hoped to get you in the right place before you chose Vortex OR Mod Organizer 2.

[FO4] The Wastelander's Collections: A Sim Settlements 2 Light Mod List for V 1.11.221.

All DLC needed except the CC DLC. This is to provide Setup to the SS2 and Light Performance Collections at Nexus Mods. While offering some info into the Mods I'm working with. While trying to help you build your own Mod List.

  • V1.11.221 - (Steam Edition) If a Mod say it work with version 1.11.1##+ (+) or AE / Next-Gen (very few early NG mods never fully updated) this shows that it's a Universal mod that Needs F4SE and Address.

Wastelander's Collection

Has 3 Collections.

All install Steps are included at the Nexus Mods linked below. You'll only need to come back to Look at ~Other Good Mod~ and if you want to know a little bit about this loadout. You'll only need one.

  1. The Universal Foundation: The More You Know. (OT) edition. A Loadout that has Stability Mods and a few bug fixs.
  2. Wastelander's Foundation: Is a Performance Essential Mods Collections based off of Addictol to fix engine crashes and provide script headroom for Fallout 4 to start your own Wasteland.
  3. Wastelander's SS2: Giving in Game Script room to grow your Loadout if you want to. This has all in house SS2 Mods including the Optional and Miscellaneous files you can always add more city plan Mods but SS2 in House mods are all added or are not need.

Wastelander's Workshop

  • All 3 Steps should be followed.

Step 1

The DLC Unifier Mod

This is not needed as of yet. It's a new Stability Mod. If you're new to Modding this is the 1st Mod you should deal with as it will be the easiest to get out the way and best with no other mods installed for setup.

  • This is needed by everyone planning on long term Modding or you're starting a new game (or a mid-save game is said to be safe) now as Bethesda will never fix this. Thanks to the team that just made this mod.
  • If you have started the DLC Far Harbor by going to the map you'll need a new game (the Post Tab has some one asking about this).
  • Patch Status: Steam [ Up ], GOG [ Not yet. ], Gamepass [ Not yet. ], Epic [ Not yet.]
  • The Pinned comment in the Post Tab has the Install.
  • MO2: Is good to follow the 1st way of direct install.
  • Vortex: The 2nd way of Installing of making your own folder.
  • This is the only Mod that will be above the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch in your Loadorder.
  • This will need a clean Steam Fallout 4 data folder. Video Guide

Video Guide:

Fallout 4 DLC Consistency Patch

Fallout4Custom.ini

I don't use Bethini Pie myself. I have my Tool Kit. Choose only 1.

  • Fallout4Custom.ini: The Wastelander's Tool Kit. - built as a light Custom.ini that fits well with Mods that deal with the .ini, Graphics, and lighting. Nvidia friendly.
  • Fallout4Custom.ini: That will help set up the Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor) or create your own .ini.
  • The Nvidia.ini: Guide: That will help set up the Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor) or create your own .ini.

I deleted the Fallout 4 - High Resolution Texture Pack. Through Steam by (up to you).

  1. Right clicking Fallout 4
  2. Properties
  3. DlC Uncheck High Resolution Texture Pack

Vortex Settings

F4SE

  1. Mods Tab
  2. Double left click Fallout 4 Script Extender
  3. Scroll to Mod Type on screen that pops up on right
  4. Chose Engine Injector

Doing this puts it next to The Fallout4.exe in your Steam Folders.

F4SE Dashboard Link

Click the dashboard button at the left of screen scroll to tools and if Fallout 4 scrip extender isn't there find the big plus button in the tools bar to add in name call it F4SE then in the Target click the folder button and go to your steam library. Find in your SteamLibrary > Steamapps > common find fallout 4 folder then in this folder you will click f4se_loader.exe and save. Now it should be blue and not shaded out if you click the Three Vertical Dots and set it to Primary it will put your script extender and an easy spot to press.

  • Running F4SE can't be done without a Fallout4Custom.ini and the Next part will be the overview of Fallout 4 Modding as its best to know what your getting into and the F4SE Mod every one needs

PRP

  1. Double left click ppf.esm.esm set to Core Mods in Group.
  2. Double left click prp.esp set to PreVis & Precombined Fixes in Group (if this is still having a hard time try Late Fixes & Changes).

MO2 and Vortex Settings

SS2 - PRP

  1. Double left click PPf-ss2-cr.esm set to Core Mods in Group.
  2. These below bits are Updates for the CC DLC's Mods given freely.
  3. ppf-ss2-iongun-cr.esm can be Disabled if Vortex acts up. Do not Remove. MO2 users just dont add it.
  4. ppf-ss2-neonflats-cr can be Disabled if Vortex acts up. Do not Remove. MO2 users just dont add it.

The Wastelander Interchangeable Loadout

What I think is need for base Game.

  • Foundation Mods Setttings Updates.
  • Foundation Mods
  • Wastelander Foundation (Optional).

Optional

  • Combat
  • Extra
  • SS2
  • Graphics

Info

There are no Gun Mods for you can find what you like yourself and Graphics is just a base if you want it.

In this loadout I would aim for around 75-100 mod limit if your using a Mega mod, OR about 100 - 175 Mods if you ditch Mega Mods. Creating large loadouts is not easy.

Previsibines Repair Pack is a mod that has its problems but it works in this loadout but this may be the first mod to delete if you change from this setup.

  • MO2 Users - to change the .ini of any mod you double clicking on the mod and follow the folders till the .ini.
  • Vortex Users - You can change The Mods .ini files by right clicking the mod and clicking Open in File Manager and following the folders to find the Mods .ini.

Step 2

Foundation Mods Settings Updates

  • Mandatory.

Fallout 4 Script Extender

  • Go back to Vortex or MO2 click run the game through the Fallout 4 Scrip Extender. Yes this is needed and we can learn a lot from a startup. When you get to your title screen as long as everything went well we can learn a lot.
  • Click the ~ key under your Esc button a screen over lay should pop up and then you can type getf4seversion it should tell you something other than file not found.
  • If files not found it could be that you got the wrong version or Most times for a Failed load of F4SE it is Most likely how you installed Steam way back when, and it put its self into the file Program Files (x86), which will locks out all Mod Manager's alike.
  • If everything is good at this point you're mostly done. And just need to check one last file placement that is in you This PC> C: Drive> Users> Your Name> Documents> My Games > Fallout 4 > F4SE in this folder will be your f4se.log and you can tell how your game loaded up this is not a crash log. But it will give you a true loadout list. This will also hold you're Foundation Mods logs.

Addictol

  • All .ini setting are done in the Addictol.toml.
  • I Used the Mods listed here for my base.
  • If your using a lot of different NPC Mod pack, these Mods may be unoptimized for Addictiol and you'll need to change Facegen = true (= false)
  • Changing the Facegen is not needed for SS2 as they have a great team.

High FPS Physics Fix

  • HighFPSPhysicsFix.ini Changes.
  • Is Need if you want to go over 60 FPS.
  • High FPS Fix changes I did to the HighFPSPysicsFix.ini.
  • DisableBlackLoadingScreens = true
  • PostloadingMenuSpeed=3.0
  • OneThreadWhileLoading=false (true if you have 8 ram).
  • DynamicUpdateBudget=true (If you going over 60 FPS).
  • InGameFPS - 60 (you'll need to turn Max FPS to off in you video card setting) just know this mod will let the game go over 60 fps and this is how you set what fps you want.
  • BudgetMaxFPS - Needs to be set at the same setting as InGameFPS.
  • In the [Display] section I changed Fullscreen=true and Borderless=false (game how you want) if you don't like full screen when you go to start the game through Steam. This first screen that pops up is where you set your graphic settings to be the same with these setting here. This will reset the Fallout4Prefs.ini.
  • My in game resolutions set to 1920x1080, there is a Resolution Section to change if you have a specific setting you wish to play at and should match your graphic settings.

Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch

  • UFO4P- This is a bunch of bug fixes that fix core game stuff. I trust the community that made this.
  • Optional files for CC Wastelanders needed or you just have the DLC.

Foundation Mods

Game Visuals Configuration Menu (GVCM) OG-NG

  • This Mod Comes with a known Bug when you start the game you must press the Space Bar or the A button to get passed the loading screen to the start of the game.
  • This deals with shadows, God Rays and other stuff.
  • Dose not Need Paprus Common Library if you have Addictol.

Community Fixes Merged

  • This is a Sister mod to the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch.

Address Library - All In One

  • Or 1.11.221

HUD Framework

WorkShop Framework

Mod Configuration Menu

  • Need to do In game setup,

Place Everywhere

Cell Offset Generator

  • Will not work with Asciim0v Mod Faster Cell.
  • If your log says failed its ok this mod is still doing its job at start up.
  • As long as you see it loading cells loading bar when starting or loading a new you're good.

RobCo Patcher - AE

Makeshift Melee Pack

  • Needed for Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch.

Random Encounters Framework

Edmond's Settlement Attack Spawns Outside the Settlement

SettlementmenuManagerMainFile

Upscaling

  • Will not work with other UI Upscaling mods.
  • Hud mods may need to be set correctly to work with this mod.

Canary Save File Monitor

  • The best low key mod.

Wastelander SS2 Build

  • This is the Split, where you're free to build your own Wasteland or get SS2.

Vault 88

  • This is a Foundation Set in my eyes.

Vault 88 Essentials

  • This is a great place to start for a mod that deals with Vault 88.
  • Settlement Menu Manager is already in this Loadout.

Vault-Tec Workshop Overhaul Redux (VTWOR)

  • It's not needed but it works just fine.

PRP

Previsibines Repair Pack

  • This is a Mod that people are mixed on and the Mod dosn't like to play nice in some loadout but it will help FPS in Down Town area.
  • Some people like it other don't. Need more times then not.
  • Needs stand alone PRP Patches to popular mods that change the map or alters buildings. like SS2 PRP Expansion Pack.

Combat

  • Alternative mods at the bottom.

Chemfluence AI Combat Dynamics

  •  Created by Zzyxzz.
  • Alternative Mod at the bottom.

NPCs Use Items

  •  Created by Zzyxzz.
  • Alternative Mod at the bottom.

Jet Script Bugfix

  •  Created by Zzyxzz.
  • Alternative Mod at the bottom.

Everyone's Best Friend

Companion Infinite Ammo - Single

  • You can choose the other optional files of Companion Infinite Ammo and Unbreakable Power Armor - SINGLE.

Extra

You And What Army 2

  • A Mod that's know to be in a few different loadouts.
  • Faction Workshop Manger 2 don't get together.

Lightweight more Spawns

  • This is a good add on for Mega Mods as other mod like this have Scripted NPCs and that pull on the overall game. Like Tales from the Commonwealth. So this is if you want more. Without too much scrip lag.

IDEK's Logistics Station 2

  • It's not needed.

Longer Power Lines 3X

  • It's not needed.

Flyable Personal Vertibird

  • Not Needed.
  • Has a lot of Optional files.

Durable Vertibirds

  • Not Needed. But they do go down a little fast without.

Mega Mod

Sim Settlements 2 Chapter 3 all in one Chapters

  • Install the all in one file.
  • There are also optional Files That that you can choose and one of the Optional ask for Baka Scrap Heap but if you have the foundations Buffout 4 AE OR Addictol it's fine.
  • Do not choose the Optional File Resurgence Black Screen Fix.
  • In game setup is needed.

Sims Settlements 2

  • The only thing you'll need to look at is the Optional Files Only.

Sim Settlements 2 - Previsibines Expansion Pack - PRP SS2 Conflict Resolution ESM.

  • I have the Chapter 1 and 2 Version.

Sim Settlements 2 Settlement Management Terminal

  • If you want this.

Rise of the Commonwealth for Sim Settlements 2

  • You don't need this.

Step 3

Graphics Mods

  • Graphics - You'll only need 3 types of mods. It's still best to ask Reddit.
  • Graphic Mod should be placed at the bottom of your loadout but always above the .Prp Mod as this mod needs to be last.
  • Always look to Reddit for other Mods.

Graphics overhauls - Something like 2k OverHaul

Water Graphic Mod - Something like Water Enhanced - 2K to match the graphics.

Weather Mod - Something like Lightweight Lighting Overhaul

  • Get the Full mod (or Interiors Only if you want a different Weather Mod).
  • This is a Mega Mod as it deals with a little bit of everything with the Weather graphics of the game.

This whole set up works here.

Mods Loadout

  • Vortex should stay away for CC Mods or having a big list of CC Mods.
  • MO2 is a little more CC Mod friendly and their team is working on an update.

If you don't like SS2 replace it with America Rising 2 (does not work with SS2), OR Tales from the Commonwealth (this works with SS2 but you may lag for it as this is NPC script heavy Mod).

Mega Mods Have a lot going on and even deal with a lot of the Extra section as is, the more you add the more you split the games script needs.

Or Ditch Mega Mods all together. This will give you the freedom in your loadout to get Faction Overhaul Mods and other UI things that you would rather have in game.

Tips

  • Gun mods should be placed between the CanarySaveFileMonitor and SS2.
  • Gun mods somthing like 2 Mega Gun packs the best place to ask is Reddit.
  • Gun mods can sometimes be very heavy on your Games Script
  • Don't get Mods that overlap or do the same thing. This is wasting your plug in spots.
  • Sometimes they hide the Version Number in the Preview Files Contents in the Files tab in Nexus Mods.
  • SS2 will crash... this is more to do with Fallout 4, and how the games Papyrus acts, and there's not much more you can do... other then take SS2 Slow. If you find it crashing at the Triangle of Death. I suggest you look this up before playing this mod. (This is one of the biggest mods to date with only 2 other mods as big) so just know that this mod is about 50 mods if not more. So a Small Loadout is best for a long Run.
  • Crossing the 200-mod mark means you are no longer just installing mods—you are curating a custom Collection. Be careful past this point. Automated sorting tools will fail to catch everything.
  • This full loadout will still give you room to grow your own Wasteland.

Other Foundation Mod

  • That I liked but didn't make it in the loadout.

Weapon Debris Crash Fix

  • Nvidia card users only.
  • You can turn on your Weapon Debris with this mod.

Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor)

  • This is an easy to use .ini editor, but I trust my Fallout4Custom.ini so I'm ok, this is up to you.
  • This is like a master list to the Fallout4Custom.ini
  • Other Mods that use Fallout4.ini settings will overlap here.
  • This still works regardless it's just up to you how to go about it.
  • The only setting Bethini Pie works with is the [Archive] section in the Custom.ini.

In-Game Dev Tools and Conflict Checker

  • Needed if you have a large Mod list, to see how everything is working.
  • Works together with Canary Save File Monitor.

Wastelander's Foundation Mod

  • Both mods do Overhaul base game. Some like it and some don't.

Sim Settlements 2

  • Chapter 1 is the Light version of the game.
  • PRP SS2 Chapter 1 Only Version.

Faction Workshop Manger 2

  • The Descriptions say's this Mod works with a lot of mods.
  • Just stay away from standalone mods trying to do the same thing.
  • In game setup is needed.
  • If used with SS2 turn off FWM2 Logistics System.
  • You And What Army 2 aren't needed together.
  • The SS2 Collection above has You And What Army 2.

Other Good Mod

  • Mod's I liked but didn't make it in the loadout.

More Active AI

  • If you like this more do not install the mods Created by Zzyxzz in the ~Combat~ section no need to have Mods that do the same thing in the Loadout as it just takes a Plugin Spot needlessly.
  • They did work Together.

Karma

  • Has a Nexus Requirements that says it's a SOFT REQUIREMENT the PipboyTabs this has not been update for v. 1.11.191, and it's not need to have karma work.
  • Better off Mega Mods but will work just fine.

Npcs Travel

  • This is a big mod on its own.
  • Should be left out of Mega mods.

Zombie Walkers

  • This is a big mod too, it affects ghouls as a whole.
  • Should be left out of Mega Mods, but is a very fun mod.

Enclave Remnants Final

  • Has a patch for AR2.

America Rising 2

  • Mega Mod
  • I think there is a Stand alone PRP for this mod.
  • Does not work with SS2 chapter 2-3
  • SS2 Chapter 1 only may work (I have not tried).

Tales from the Commonwealth

  • NPC Script Heavy Mod but works with AR2 and SS2

Scrap Mods

  • Both Mods work together.
  • Most other Scrap Mods dont work with PRP.

Raze My Settlement

Clean My Settlement

Info

  • I ended up ditching Npc Travels it was conflicting with my SS2 mod, and I always felt like it was prioritizing one over the other. So I pulled it from my Load Order.
  • Replacing it with the random encounter framework, and light weight more spawns mod... This was to reduce the script heavy NPC Travels with something that doesn't fight for in game script so much giving more to the SS2 script.
  • I've deleted Karma, Karma worked it's just a lot of overhead script that's always running in the background.
  • Remember to always check the Requirements to all your mods.

Your job isn't over yet once in the game you'll need to clean up you're in game mod settings for stable game play and SS2 adds a lot of new stuff as does every mega Mod like it.

The Mid Playthrough Gamble

  • Read the Description: The mod author will almost always say if a "New Game" is required with an Update. If they say you need a new save, believe them.
  • Avoid "System" Overhauls: Don't add huge Mods that change how the whole game works (like Sim Settlements 2 or major perk overhauls) mid-playthrough unless you're prepared for weird bugs.
  • The "Point of No Return": Adding a mod is usually okay, but removing one is dangerous. This mod is "baked" into your save file from now on. If you remove it later, your save might crash because it's looking for data that isn't there anymore.
  • Hard Save First: Before you update or add anything, make a manual "Hard Save" (not a quick save) in an interior area like a player home. If the new mod or update ruins everything, you can delete the new version of the mod and roll back to the old version of the mod you saved.
  • If your Update is good you're free to Uninstall the old Version of the mod.

Don't underestimate the Canary Mod at times like these.

Thanks for Walking this Lonesome Road with me.

This List Is to Highlight Mega Mods, and give you a good Foundation Mod Loadout.

  • HDD- Mega Mods may only work alone even this set up may be too much. Get the Foundation Mod Loadout Go from there.

[FO4] PSA: The Essential Fallout 4 Mod that makes all DLC Moddable

The Fallout 4 DLC Consistency Patch Mod will be part of the process to Modding soon as more Mods get created with this as the requirement need to play and maybe the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch will need it soon as well. As of now there are none but this is still safe to do if you're just Modding the game as it's a stability Mod. The Creator of this Mod created the PRP mods and is looking forward to what this brings to the table and how could you not. As we will be seeing a lot more Mods for Far Harbor and you can save a bunch of Computer Memory is what BenRierimanu is looking forward too.

The New Step

  • This is needed by everyone planning on long term Modding or you're starting a new game (or a mid-save game is said to be safe) now Bethesda may never fix this.
  • If you have started the DLC Far Harbor by going to the map you'll need a new game (the Post Tab has some one asking about this).
  • Steam and (GOG is not updated yet) required.

[FO4] The Wasteland Survival Guide - The Whole Modding Truth

This guide covers the essentials of getting your game Modded, explaining two Fallout 4 Versions, and choosing what Mod Manager is right for you.  With a list of Performance Mods.

Hopefully, it finds its way to someone in need. This is the Last Edition.

This should be the Last update to the game as of now the Main Mods I know of are updated, some mods may vary.

Versions of the Game

  • V1.11.221 - (Steam Edition) If a Mod say's it works with version 1.11.1##+ (+) or AE / Next-Gen (very few early NG mods never fully updated) this shows that it's a Universal mod that Needs F4SE and Address only.
  • V1.10.163 - (GOG Edition) happens to be the oldest version and the only version Fallout London runs on. Labeled OG. Has the most Mods.
  • Yes there are other Versions of the game but these are the main two.

If you have Steam, Downgrading your game is the only way you have to get Fallout London working and there is also a way if you have Fallout 4 for GOG.

  • Downgrader Guides Would You Like To Know MoreMore.

Downloading Mods takes up a lot of room on your computer's Hard Drive. Fallouts 4 has a Script Memory limit and a Mod Limit (you can merge Mods but that's advanced). Your computer has limits as well some Mods may changes the specs of the game slightly from base game.

  • Addictol has changed how BA2 Plug limits work on computer but isn't a fix all.
  • BA2 plugs Would You Like To Know MoreMore.

Nexus Mods

  • Other safe places to Download your mod's from. Bethesda but I don't use it.
  • Discord & Patreon, is where you can support Creators.

If you have an account with Nexus Mods, they have started stepping away from e-male based verification and started favoring Cell Phones based 2 Factor Authentication, 2FA. So what's going on is you will need some form of QR Code Reader on your cell phone I used the Google Authenticator in the apps store (this is free) and don't mix it up with an ad. This should be done after setting up your account with Nexus Mods it will be in the Account settings when your log in at Nexus Mods.

2FA

This protects your account from being lost as a free member. Just know that after 30 days of inactivity nexus mods forgets who you are. These steps could save you and your loadout. The 5 code set at the end, is your hard save for Nexus Mods. This will be a 16 Numbered code and each code is a onetime use so you only get 5 hard saves. You'll need to save it on your computer or write them down (safe option).

  • If you lose your account without 2FA. It's a mix bag getting it back as a free user.

Mod Managers

Now we have two communities. Both at war with each other. In this, there is a choice for you to make. This is based on how your mods work on your computer and both community's use a different Mod Manager.

  • Between them It's just what UI works out best for you and what fits your needs.
  • Both need File Management just Vortex can automate it through it's not the best.

MO2

Just like the Gun Runners, there Mod Organizer is the strongest out there with their custom loadout, holding 200 Plus Mod's. There's a cost to all that, and it is you. You are doing everything and moving every file, but don't get me wrong. That’s what the community's for, to help you get on your feet. There’s lots of walkthrough's that give you step by step guides and in the end you'll need to learn one of them. It does holds the longest working relationship with Bethesda Games (that's why they run the Wasteland), cleanly working with all their games. It also host a virtual storage system for your computer that you will need to download and setup. All steps can be followed from one of their walkthrough's.

  • MO2- Their team is working on a Beta to work with CC Mods. MO2 hosts a Few AAA Games.
  • Loot warning: Don't use this mod on any automated collection from Wabbajack.
  • Loot (Load Order Optimization Tool): A external tool required for MO2 to have better automated sorting.

Vortex

Hosts a automated system Mr. Handy Style. Now it can also host 200 plus mods, but that's a lot for Vortex's system and the way it handles Loadout's looks messy, but in the end you’re doing the same thing between both. What happens is it'll tell you that two mods don't work together (Most times this is a load order issue). Vortex has a hard link system that connects to and need's Nexus Mods to Automate its, File Placement, Updates, and Load Order. Updating vortex is a mess most time's its best to wait for a stable update. It's easier to switch your Downloaded Mod over from Vortex to MO2 if it doesn't work out.

  • Vortex - Does not play nice with CC Mods as of now, base CC Mods are fine or go light on the CC loadout all mods should be gotten from Nexus Mods and they hosts a large game library.
  • Moving from Vortex to MO2. Would You Like To Know MoreMore.

Foundation Mods

Mods that should be in every loadout in some way.

Mods everyone needs

Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE)

  • F4SE takes Steam's Job over and launches the game.
  • This Mod gives Fallout 4 the ability to process mods.

Address Library for F4SE Plugins

  • Sister mod to F4SE.
  • Address Library - All in One - Is the best Version option. You're free to choose as 1.11.221 won't need to update.
  • This gives Order to Mods for F4SE to use.

Foundation Mix A

  • Steam.
  • Do not Mix Foundation Mix A & B together.
  • Do not Get Baka ScrapHeap

Addictol

  • V1.11.221
  • The DESCRIPTION Tab has the .ini layout for this mod and the Mods it works with
  • If you need to Change the Addictol.toml for a mod don't get it. Unless DESCRIPTION updates.
  • Addictol.toml is where you change the settings.
  • If your using a lot of different NPC Mod pack, these Mods may be unoptimized for Addictiol and you'll need to change Facegen = true (= false)

Foundation Mix B

  • GOG .
  • Do not Mix Foundation Mix A & B together.
  • Do not Get Baka ScrapHeap.
  • Getting some mods for this version may be in the Old Files section

Buffout 4

  • v1.10.163
  • Needs .ini work done.

Baka MaxPapyrusOps

  • Needs .ini work done.

Mentats - F4SE

Other Foundation Mod

  • These Mods Will work with both Foundation Mixs, you'll need the correct versions if you're using GOG, OR Downgraded your Fallout 4 version and some .ini or Video Card work may be needed to get them working.

High FPS Physics Fix

  • For people who plan to play over 60 fps you'll need this mod and change the HighFPSPhysicsfix.ini settings to make it work.
  • You will need to work on your Video Card Setting to get this working.
  • Needs .ini work done.

Long Loading Times Fix

  • A sister mod to High FPS Fix. This mod does this better than the High FPS and if you get this too the HighFPSPhysicsFix.ini load time fix need to be turned off.
  • Needs .ini work done.

Weapon Debris Crash Fix

  • Nvidia card users only.
  • You can turn on your Weapon Debris with this mod.

Cell Offset Generator

  • Will not work with Asciim0v Mod Faster Cell.
  • If your log says failed its ok this mod is still doing its job at start up.
  • As long as you see it loading cells loading bar when starting or loading a new you're good.

Upscaling

  • Will not work with other UI Upscaling mods.
  • Hud mods may need to be set correctly to work with this mod.

Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor)

  • This is an easy to use .ini editor, but I trust my Fallout4Custom.ini so I'm ok using this is up to you.
  • This is like a master list to the Fallout4.ini
  • Other Mods that use Fallout4.ini settings will overlap here.
  • The only setting Bethini Pie works with is the [Archive] section in the Custom.ini.
  • This still works regardless it's just up to you how to go about it.

Baka ScrapHeap

  • Is one of the better mods out there it just doesn't fit in my set up it works just isn't need with Addictol or there is a mod made for the GOG version. If you find yourself in need this will help but you'll need to change something in both mix's to get it to work.

SS2 PRP Expansion Pack.

Mods

  • A must have mod as it does what it says.

In-Game Dev Tools and Conflict Checker

  • Works together with Canary Save File Monitor.

Scrap Mods

  • Both Mods work together.
  • Most other Scrap Mods won't work with PRP.

Pre-download checks

At Nexus Mods before you download your Mods, Remember to always check your Mods Requirements, DON'T  mix it up with Mods requiring this file, that's different mods that need the Mod you're looking at to work with. The Descriptions and or Post will have the most info on the mod.

Check the Game Version it is normally in the Files Tab. If you don't see a clear Version number there is a Preview file contents Button this will most time's have the Version number.

File Location

There are 2 places on your computer that matter when your modding.

1. is in Steam. You will right click Fallout 4> Manage> Browse file location. You will find your Fallout4.exe. This will also be where F4SE should go. You can find out what version you are from the Fallout4.exe by right clicking and going to Properties we will start by going to The Details tab you will find your version number.

2. is This PC> C: Drive> Users> Your Name> Documents> My Games > Fallout 4 .

  • Fallout 4 Scrip Extender and Address Library are the only mod you need to test if your set up.
  • Start game through F4SE.
  • Click the ~ key under your Esc button a screen over lay should pop up and then you can type getf4seversion it should tell you something other than file not found.
  • If files not found it could be that you got the wrong version or Most times for a Failed load of F4SE it is Most likely how you installed Steam way back when... and it put its self into the file Program Files (x86), which will locks out all Mod Manager's alike.
  • If everything is good at this point you're mostly done. You need to check one last file placement that is in your This PC> C: Drive> Users> Your Name> Documents> My Games > Fallout 4 > F4SE in this folder will be your f4se.log you can tell how your game loaded up. This is not a crash log but it will give you a true loadout list.

And were coming to the end thanks for making it here, there are a few things that should be gone over and then you should go find your Mod Manager that's right for you.

  • Remember to post your load order or if you have it a crash log, or the error you getting from your mod manager, where your game is crashing and what Mod Manager you're using.
  • All Mods Need a Fallout4Custom.ini to work.
  • Remember to turn off Automatic updates for your game in steam to protect your games Versions from updates and your Fallout4Prefs.ini setting. This is done by right clicking Fallout 4 in Steam >clicking Properties> Updates in this screen you will change the Automatic Updates to Wait until I launch the game.
  • There is a difference between a SSD Solid State Drive and your Hard Disk Drive Just know your HDD doesn't Transfer Data Quickly so you'll need to do a Smaller Loadout then most to have a stable game.

Clean Up

The safest way to start a clean Fallout is to use your, Disk Cleanup up > from your bottom left search bar when you click it these are the safe settings to do for your C: Drive.

  • Temporary Files: These are leftover files from apps that didn't close correctly. Deleting these clears out "junk" that can slow down your computers background tasks.
  • "DirectX Shader Cache": This is the only box that matters for your performance. It won't touch your Vortex mods; it only wipes the "shorthand" lighting data the GPU built. The best way to start a clean game.
  • "Recycle Bin":( Make sure that there is nothing you need in it, I have already heard stories of how they emptied there bin and lost something they need).
  • Thumbnails: Windows stores small pictures of your folders. If you delete these, your icons might take a split-second to "pop in" next time, but it fixes "corrupted icon" bugs.

The Unsafe setting in disk cleanup.

  • Windows Error Reporting & Feedback: These are logs generated when a program crashes (like when Fallout 4 inevitably hits the desktop). Safe to delete; these are just history reports that Microsoft uses for debugging. They don't affect game stability. Unless your computer is crashing then you need these (that's why it's in this section).
  • UNCHECK "Downloads program files": If your Vortex or Mo2 user in your This PC > "Download", Disk Cleanup will delete your mod archives. You would have to re-download every mod from Nexus Mods. If you leave this checked.

The other half is any Mods in the Data Folders in Steam or old logs in F4SE.

  • The Data Folder should be looked at before you get mods to get an understanding of what a clean folder should look like.
  • If you uninstall the game those left over files will stay in Steams Apps Folder in the Fallout 4 Folder that should help finding them. Do only if you think you need it.

Thank You Vary, Vary, Much For Listing Stay Classy, New Vegas.

[FO4] The Wastelander's Loadout Workshop: For Fallout 4

This was always to help people start their own Wasteland.

This Loadout is for Fallout 4 Version 1.11.221 AE with all DLC needed but the CC DLC (with a Creation Content Work Around if needed).

  • V1.11.221 - (Steam Edition) If a Mod say it work with version 1.11.1##+ (+) or AE / Next-Gen this shows that it's a Universal mod that works with anything as Fallout 4 got a new file setup at some point.

Wastelander's Collection

Has two Collections.

All install Steps are included at the Nexus Mods linked below. You'll only need to come back to Look at ~Other Good Mod~ and if you want to know a little bit about this loadout.

  1. ~Wastelander's Foundation Collection~ - Is a Performance Essential Mods Collections to fix engine crashes and provide script headroom for Fallout 4 to start your own Wasteland.
  2. ~Wastelander's SS2 Collection~ - Is the Sim Settlement 2 Loadout with both Collections together. Both give in Game Script room to grow your Loadout if you want to. This has all in house SS2 Mods including the Optional and Miscellaneous files you can always add more city plan Mods but SS2 in House mods are all added or are not need.

This next bit is just the Guide.

Wastelander's Workshop

  • All 3 Steps should be followed.

Step 1

Fallout4Custom.ini

I don't use Bethini Pie myself. I have my Tool Kit. Only if you need one.

  • Fallout4Custom.iniThe Wastelander's Tool Kit. - built as a light Custom.ini that fits well with Mods that deal with the .ini, Graphics, and lighting. Nvidia friendly.
  • OR
  • Fallout4Custom.ini That will help set up the Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor) or create your own .ini.
  • OR
  • The Nvidia.ini Guide - That will help set up the Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor) or create your own .ini.

I deleted the Fallout 4 - High Resolution Texture Pack. Though Steam by (up to you).

  1. Right clicking Fallout 4
  2. Properties
  3. DlC Uncheck High Resolution Texture Pack

Vortex Settings

F4SE

  1. Mods Tab
  2. Double left click Fallout 4 Script Extender
  3. Scroll to Mod Type on screen that pops up on right
  4. Chose Engine Injector

Doing this puts it next to The Fallout4.exe in your Steam Folders.

PRP

  • Go back to Vortex or MO2 click run the game thought the Fallout 4 Scrip Extender.

  • InGameFPS - 60 (you'll need to turn Max FPS to off in you video card setting this is gone over in pt.1 Custom.ini) just know this mod will let the game go over 60 fps and this is how you set what fps you want.
  • BudgetMaxFPS - Needs to be set at the same setting as InGameFPS.
  • In the [Display] section I changed Fullscreen=true and Borderless=false (game how you want) if you don't like full screen when you go to start the game though Steam.

  • Needed with UFO4P.

Enclave Remnants Final

AI's Halloween Workshop

Wastelander SS2 Build

  • This is the Split, where you're free to build your own Wasteland or get SS2.

Vault 88

  • This is a Foundation Set in my eyes.

Vault 88 Essentials

  • This is a great place to start for a mod that deals with Vault 88.
  • Settlement Menu Manager is already in this Loadout.

Vault-Tec Workshop Overhaul Redux (VTWOR)

  • It's not needed but it works just fine.

PRP

Previsibines Repair Pack

  • Do not use Asciim0v mods with this mod, as his speed up mods affect this.
  • This is a Mod that people are mixed on and the Mod doesn't like to play nice in some loadout but it will help FPS in Down Town area.
  • Some people like it other don't. Need more times than not.

Combat

  • Alternative mods at the bottom.

  • Just having 2 Followers is buggy enough.

Extra

You And What Army 2

  • This is only if you like what it does it may not fit if you change your Mega Mod.
  • A mod that's know to be in a few different loadouts.

Mega Mod Have a lot going on and even deal with a lot of the Extra section as is, the more you add the more you split the games script needs.

Faster Saves.

  • Get only this as the rest of this users mods don't work here.

Sim Settlements

  • Never Use with Sim Settlements 2.
  • This works with America Rising 2.
  • This works well with mods. Just not mods that change Settlement size or increase build limit.
  • In game setup is needed.

Faction Workshop Manger 2

  • The Descriptions say's this Mod works with a lot of mods.
  • Just stay away from standalone mods trying to do the same thing.
  • In game setup is needed.

Other Good Mod

  • I liked but didn't make it in the loadout.

America Rising 2

  • Mega Mod
  • Does not work with SS2

Tales from the Commonwealth

  • NPC Script Heavy Mod but works with AR2 and SS2

Scrap Mods

Scrap Lots of Things

  • Or

Bionicyardiff

  • Both Mods work together.

Raze My Settlement

Clean My Settlement

Info

  • I ended up ditching Npc Travels it was conflicting with my SS2 mod, and I always felt like it was prioritizing one over the other. So pulled it from the loadout.
  • Replacing it with the random encounter framework, and light weight more spawns mod... This was to reduce the script heavy NPC Travels with something that doesn't fight for in game script so much leavening more for the SS2 scrip.

[FO4] The Swappable Downgrader Guides: A MO2 and Vortex way for Steam and GOG.

Important: I acknowledges I didn't write all of this. It's a mix from 3 people. The Credit goes to u/Thornescape (MO2 method) and u/roesingape (Vortex video). I made the Wastelander's method.

MOD

METHOD 1: MO2 Downgrader

Best for: Mod Organizer 2 users (Steam or GOG)

Credit: u/Thornescape

Guide: The Fallout 4 Swappable Downgrader (Two Click Version)

METHOD 2: Vortex Video Guide

Best for: Vortex users who prefer video format

Credit: u/roesingape

Guide: Video - Dodge Steam Auto Update + Fallout 4 AE & London

METHOD 3: Wastelander's Version Swap

Best for: Vortex users with Fallout 4 on BOTH Steam and GOG

Setup needed: Everything on one drive (Downloads folder can be separate)

Steps:

  1. Open Vortex
  2. Select Purge
  3. Go to Games Profile and switch platforms
  4. Close Vortex
  5. Open Task Manager
    • Turn off all EA services (keep only Steam OR GOG active)
  6. Reopen Vortex (it auto-links to the active platform)
  7. Select Deploy
  8. Go to dashboard
    • Relink F4SE
  9. Press Play

Note: Always relink F4SE before switching platforms. If you forget, Vortex loses the connection.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Vortex won't recognize the switch? Restart Vortex or check you linked the correct platform's Data folder (Steam and GOG use different folder names)
  • Need Profile Management? Enable it in Vortex Settings > Interface > Advanced
  • Why kill EA in Task Manager? EA Services run constantly and can interfere with the swap

Recommendation: The swappable downgrader methods above are the best way to handle downgrading

[FO4] Fallout4Custom.ini: The Wastelander's Tool Kit.

This Fallout4Custom.ini was made to work with mods like, Cell Offset Generator, Lightweight Lighting Overhaul, and Shadow Boost. This .ini is designed to work with the collection that already has these mods built into them or mods like them.

bUseCombinedObjects=1 in the [General] section will not work with the Mod Scrap Everything so this setting should be deleted.

~~~~Fallout4Prefs.ini~~~~
Looking where to go (Don't get it mixed up with the right click Steam local files though steam this is important but not for this).
Go to> This PC > C: Drive /user/Your Name/Documents/My Game/Fallout4 and your there. The Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini and the soon to be Fallout4Custom.ini will be here,
In your Fallout4Prefs.ini Document you should change iPresentInterval to 0 to unlock the games framerate. Open Fallout4Prefs.ini in your notepad hit Ctrl + F should bring up the find box under Edit button. Copy and paste iPresentInterval into the find box Change iPresentInterval=1 to 0 (you don’t need to change any other settings other than your Fallout4Custom.ini) Save this change.
  • Warning: Do not set your Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Prefs.ini and Fallout4Custom.ini to "Read-Only," as this is a bad old practice and will lock you out of your Mod Managers.
  • Steam has Appmanifest file for Fallout 4 setting this to Read-Only. It does have its own down sides.
This is the way, go to steam right clicking your game go to Properties> Steam update> to Update only when I run the game though steam. Now if you update your Graphics setting or start the game thought steam this will reset you Fallout4Prefs.ini setting. What F4SE does is Hijack the Fallout4.exe from steam.
  • If steam ever trick you and you game with an update and it feels slower you may need to go back to redo Fallout4Prefs.ini as steam may have reverted these settings only.
  • Warning: change the iPresentInterval=0 your tuning in game frames rate off to correctly set the games FPS use Video Card Section Max FPS OR High FPS Physics Fix if you want over 60 fps.
~~~~Video Card~~~~

  • The Global Settings - should not be changed much as it deals with your whole computer.
  • The Program Settings - is the safer option, as this deals with the Game only.
  • The Game was meant to be played in Fullscreen mode for the best preformence.
  • AMD users have a similar way.

At the bottom right of screen click show hidden icons Right click Nivida- Control panelmanage 3d settings you can optimize your video card here as a whole in the Global Settings (suggested to look but don’t change to much other than the Power Settings to Max and your Shade Cache Size to 10 GB) (If you have 8 ram on your computer do 5GB) Next.

Click Program Settings to the right of Global Settings,

1. select a program needs to have Fallout 4 (fallout4.exe) this is where you tell it what game you're dealing with (I think I had to click the box under the 1. show only programs for it to pop up but you might not have this problem)

2. Box, scroll till you see max frame rate and set it to 60 (OR Turn This to Off and use the High FPS Physics Fix Mod own .ini to set your FPS in pt. 2). Not over 120 (you can go higher then this) but this is what I have gathered, Bethesda code can’t keep up well and the lower the setting the easer it will be for the game to run.

~~~~Location~~~~
  • Finding where you’re looking to go. Now don't get it mixed up with the right click steam local files though steam. Now go to, This PC, click your C: Drive C: /user/Your Name/Documents/My Game/Fallout4 and your there. Fallout4.ini and Fallout4prefs.ini and the soon to be Fallout4Custom.ini leave this open.
~~~~Nvidia~~~~

  • If you have a Nvidia video card add this to the bottom of the Fallout4Custom.ini

[NVHBAO]

bEnable=1

[NVFlex]

bNVFlexEnable=0

bNVFlexInstanceDebris=0

bNVFlexDrawDebris=0

  • The [NVHBAO] are your true setting... I left it as is, as it will just use the default Nvidia setting. This helps save some of your games CPU by giving some shadows code over to the GPU this isn't massive but every bit helps. If you want to change these setting or know about it a bit more from Nvidia Grapics Info
  • Make sure there is nothing you wish to change before saving.

~~~~Making the Fallout4Custom.ini~~~~
  1. Open the Start Menu, type Notepad, and press Enter.
  2. Now Copy Paste the below Fallout4Custom .ini into your Notepad OR the above .ini.
  3. Go to File > Save As.
  4. Find desktop on the left click this 1st.
  5. Then you Must make the File Name > Fallout4Custom.ini
  6. Crucial Step: In the "Save as type" dropdown, select All Files (.).
  7. A new Document should be on your Desktop Name Fallout4Custom.ini should have a little paper with a gear in front of it.
~~~~Wastelander's Tool Kit~~~~Do not copy.

~~~~How to Launch and Verify F4SE~~~~
  • Go back to Vortex or MO2 click run from the new fallout 4 scrip extender we set up on the dashboard to play (MO2 has its own way as well). yes this is needed and we can learn a lot from a vortex start up too now when you get to your title screen as long as everting went well we can hit the ~ key under your esc button a screen over lay should pop up and then you can type getf4seversion it should tell you something other than file not found... if files not found something didn't set right or you didn't use vortex F4SE somehow (an you must go back and find where you went wrong). If everything is good at this point you're mostly done. And just need to check one last file placement that is in you This PC> C: Drive> Users> Your Name> Documents> My Games > Fallout 4 > F4SE in this folder will be your f4se.log and you can tell how your game loaded up this is not a crash log but it will still let you know what mods loaded in correctly.
~~~~Clean Up~~~~

  • The safest way to have clean Fallout (Any Game) is to use your, Disk Cleanup up > from your bottom left search bar when you click it these are the safe settings to do for your C: Drive.
The best way for a clean game.
  • Delivery Optimization Files: These are bits of Windows Updates that you're PC "shares" with other computers on your network. Deleting this is a great way to save 1GB–5GB of space on your SSD.
  • "Recycle Bin":( Make sure that there is nothing you need in it, I have already heard stories of how they emptied there bin and lost something they need)
  • Thumbnails: Windows stores small pictures of your folders. If you delete these, your icons might take a split-second to "pop in" next time, but it fixes "corrupted icon" bugs.

The Unsafe setting in disk cleanup

  • Windows Error Reporting & Feedback: These are logs generated when a program crashes (like when Fallout 4 inevitably hits the desktop). Safe to delete; these are just history reports that Microsoft uses for debugging. They don't affect game stability. Unless your computer is crashing then you need these (that's why it's in this section).
  • UNCHECK "Downloads program files": If your Vortex or Mo2 user in your This PC > "Download", Disk Cleanup will delete your mod archives. You would have to re-download every mod from Nexus Mods. If you leave this checked.

Good Luck out there Wastlander's.

This is my .ini There are many like it but this one is mine.

[FO4] The Adventures of the Tourist Wastelander- A Tale of the Modding Universe

As you walk from the Dust, thinking about how nice some shade would be, the wasteland greets you with fire. Luckily there are just some Geckos, that's what you thought until they spat fire. Quick on their feet, but they went down surprisingly fast by taking the last shot using your V.A.T.S System you watch your bullet go through its head. Always surprising since finding your Pip-Boy, but all you know about it other than some lettering in the setting saying v1.11.191 and the screen that's pointing to an unnamed town. Only Slightly Burned and a little confused about what all this means.

How could you put the Pip-Boy now? This was all luck finding this stuff on a dead guy at a place called Lone Wolf Radio. Any way you're thirsty, and this towns just over the hill. Now you can see the town name that updated on your Pip-Boy it's now Goodsprings. This is odd there has been a lot of talk about this town on the radio. About someone getting shot in the head, but who cares about that, you need a drink.

So, as you get closer to town you see a glowing sign and an old man sitting in a chair outside, and he yells Howdy! What can Easy Pete do for you? You tell him you're looking for a drink, and he tells you to go in. As you enter the bar you hear just about everything from people to a dog. Finally sitting down and getting the special a Whiskey Rose. You find yourself next to another old man, he says his name's Doc. Mitchell and he starts asking about your Pip-Boy.

You were defensive at first but when he started talking about, different Versions of Pip-Boy out there and Holotape that give people an edge in combat or a game to play, that only worked with some versions of the Pip-Boy. He started writing on a napkin. After a few sips of your drink he hands the napkin over.

  • Pip-Boy V 1.11.191 - This is the most common version as this Over The Mountain Broadcast signal, normally forces an updated onto people Pip-Boy's there are ways around this. This has a Holotape created for it now
  • Pip-Boy V 1.10.984 - This is a dying version one of the first Over The Mountain Broadcast that broke more than if fixed.
  • Pip-Boy V 1.10.163 - This was the Version that is the oldest as it was before the war. this plays the most Holotape. There is a Holotape out there about London this is sought after.

Then he went on and on about downgrading your versions, to a New town that popped up not long ago called Nexus Mods and the community at war with its self over there but he went on to say this is where to go if you want more things for your Pip-Boy, and 1 of 2 groups you'll need to join to make it work. He went on to talk about them.

  • We Have MO2 they are the Gun Runners out here as they have a vary stable setup that been working with the Over The Mountain Broadcast for years. Their UI is all manual and you need to know what you're doing with the Pip-Boy to have a stable setup but there's always help out there. There is a shadow drive that they use to keep your Pip-Boy clean.
  • Now we have Vortex which host a automated system that does the same leg work that MO2 users need to set up and a more casual setup prone to not having the best updates. Vortex works with a lot of other Broadcast systems out there that's not the Over the Mountain Broadcast.

As it got later in the night and you sipped down the end of your drink. The Doc tells you how it's a Wild Wasteland out there and hands you two older looking Holotapes, he says take'em there's some good info I put together. You thank him and get up to go the radio kicks on and all you hear out the door is

Thank You Very, Very Much for Listening and Stay Classy New Vegas. As you walk to Nexus Mods to find your Destiny

Holotape = Mods

Pip-Boy = Computer

Over The Mountain Broadcast = Bethesda

I deleted the Fallout 4 - High Resolution Texture Pack. Though Steam

Vortex settings.

All my ppf 14-15 are set to group core mods

  • Prp.esp is set to group late fixes & Changes
  • ppf-ss2-cr.esm is set to Core Mods

i ended up ditching Npc Travels it was conflicting with my SS2 mod, and i alway felt like it was prioritizing one over the other . so pulled in from the loadout and replaced it with the random encounter framework, and light weight more spawns mod into the mix... This was to reduce the script heavy npc travels with something that doesn't fight for in game script so much leavening more for the ss2 scrip.

and now iv deleted Karma, and More Active AI. Karma worked its just a lot of overhead script thats always running in the background. more active AI steps on the toes of the other Combat mod i had.

remember to always check the Requirements to all your mods

Your job isnt over yet once in the game you'll need to clean up you're in game mod settings for stable game play and SS2 adds a lot of new stuff as does every mega Mod like it.

~The Mid Playthrough Gamble~

  • Read the Description: The mod author will almost always say if a "New Game" is required. If they say you need a new save, believe them.
  • Avoid "System" Overhauls: Don't add or update huge mods that change how the whole game works (like Sim Settlements 2 or major perk overhauls) mid-playthrough unless you're prepared for weird bugs.
  • The "Point of No Return": Adding a mod is usually okay, but removing one is dangerous. that mod is "baked" into your save file from now on. If you remove it later, your save might crash because it's looking for data that isn't there anymore.
  • Hard Save First: Before you update or add anything, make a manual "Hard Save" (not a quicksave) in an interior area like a player home. If the new mod or update ruins everything, you can delete the mod and roll back to that safe save.

~Mods Loadout~

  • Vortex should stay away for CC Mods or having a big list of CC Mods.
  • MO2 is a little more CC Mod friendly and their team is working on an update.

This is a light mod pack, with optinal Mods> but if your not into SS2 you can replace it with somthing like. America Rising 2, or Tales from the Commonwealth (works with SS2 but i would get rid of You and what army 2 and the lightweight more Spawns and as everyones computer is different). Mega Mod Have a lot going on and even deal with a lot of the Extra section as is, the more you add the more you split the games script needs.

Or Ditch Mega Mods all together. this will give you freedom in your load out to get Faction Overhaul mods, and other UI things that you would rather have in game.

~The Wastelander Interchangeable Loadout~

Whats needed mostly for every one.

  • Foundation Mods
  • Bug Fixing Mod
  • Mods that you'll need

The Extra, Combat and SS2 is take it or leave it. There are more Mods of note at the end that you should look at before you start downloading anything. there are no graphics and gun Mods for you can find what you like yourself and this is just a base. i would aim for around 75-100 mod limit if your using a Mega mod. or about 100 - 175 mods if you ditch Mega Mods.

  • This load out is, Active31 Light:26

Previsibines Repair Pack is a mod that has its problems but it works in this load out but this may be the first mod to delete if you change from this setup.

  • MO2 Users - to change the .ini of any mod you double clicking on the mod and follow the folders till the .ini.
  • Vortex Users - You can change The Mods .ini files by right clicking the mod and clicking Open in File Manager and following the folders to find the Mods .ini

~Foundation Mods~

  • You Only Need F4SE and the Foundation Mods Installed to see if your set up correctly.
  • Alternative mods at the bottom.

Fallout 4 Script Extender

  • Go back to Vortex or MO2 click run the game thought the Fallout 4 Scrip Extender. yes this is needed and we can learn a lot from a start up. When you get to your title screen as long as everything went well we can learn a lot.
  • click the ~ key under your Esc button a screen over lay should pop up and then you can type getf4seversion it should tell you something other than file not found.
And just need to check one last file placement that is in you This PC> C: Drive> Users> Your Name> Documents> My Games > Fallout 4 > F4SE in this folder will be your f4se.log and you can tell how your game loaded up this is not a crash log. but it will give you a true load out list. This will also hold you're Foundation Mods logs.

Buffout 4 AE (MiniBuff)

  • the Buffout4AE.ini Changes
  • Change this to MemoryManager=true (If This is false) this is in the [Patches] section
  • MaxStdIO=2048 in the [Patches] section
  • in th section [Tweaks] change this to MaxPapyrusOpsPerFrame=500 .
  • This Mods Page points to Addictol (Buffout 4 is no longer need)
  • May not work with CC mods well.

Baka MaxPapyrusOps

  • BakaMaxPapyrusOps.ini Changes
  • in The BakaMaxPapyrusOps.ini you want to change this to iMaxPapyrusOpsPerFrame=500
  • This Mod isnt need if you choose Addictol
  • May not work with CC mods well.

High FPS Physics Fix

  • HighFPSPhysicsFix.ini Changes
  • is Need if you want to go over 60 FPS
  • High FPS Fix changes i did to the HighFPSPysicsFix.ini
  • DisableBlackLoadingScreens = true
  • PostloadingMenuSpeed=3.0
  • OneThreadWhileLoading=false
  • DynamicUpdateBudget=true (If you going over 60 FPS)
  • InGameFPS 60 -(youll need to turn Max FPS to off in you video card setting this is gone over in pt.1 .ini) just know this mod will let the game go over 60 fps and this is how you set what fps you want.
  • In the [Display] section I changed Fullscreen=true and Borderless=false (but you dont need to do this) if you dont like fullscreen when you go to start the game though steam.. this first screen that pops up, you wont need to start the game just edit your graphic settings. doing this will reset the Fallout4Prefs.ini.
  • My in game resolutions set to 1920x1080, there is a resolution section to change if you have a spacific setting you wish to play at and should match your graphic settings..

Weapon Debris Crash Fix

  • If you Have a Nvidia card

Address Library - All In One

  • This is needed for almost every mod

~Bug Fixing Mod~

Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch

  • This is need for A lot of mod.

Community Fixes Merged

  • This is a Sister mod to the Unoffical Fallout 4 Patch.

Previsibines Repair Pack

  • prp.esp is a powerful optimization mod, but it is highly sensitive. If you change or expand your loadout, you must follow these rules
  • The Bottom Line: PRP must always be placed at the absolute bottom of your load order (prp.esp should load last).
  • The Conflict Clause: It does not play well with world-altering mods that change the physical map layout or certain graphics overhauls.
  • America Rising 2: AR2 does not work with PRP on version 1.11.191. If you switch to America Rising 2, delete PRP immediately.
  • Check for patches (like the SS2 PRP patch included in the guide). If no patch exists and your game starts bugging out, ditch PRP entirely. It helps your CPU, but in a light loadout, you likely won't even notice it's gone.

~Creation Club~

  • Vortex users should only Use Nexus Mods.
  • Go about it how you want

Enclave Remnants Final

AI's Halloween Workshop

  • ~Extra~

You And What Army 2

  • This is only if you like what it does it may not fit if you change your Mega Mod
  • it.s its a mod that.s know to be in a few different loadouts

Lightweight more Spawns

  • This is a good add on for Mega Mods as other mod like this have Scripted NPCs and that pull on the overall game. Like Tales from the Commonwealth. So this is if you want more. Without too much scrip lag.

IDEK's Logistics Station 2

  • Its not needed

Longer Power Lines 3X

  • Its not needed

Flyable Personal Vertibird

  • Not Needed.

Durable Vertibirds

  • Not Needed. But they do go down a little fast without

Vault-Tec Workshop Overhaul Redux (VTWOR)

  • It's not needed but it works just fine

Vault 88 Essentials

  • This is a great place to start for a mod that deals with Vault 88
  • Settlement Menu Manager is already in this Load Out.

~Mega Mod~

Sim Settlements 2 Chapter 3 all in one Chapters

  • Install the all in one file.
  • There are also optional Files That that you can choose and one of the Optional ask for Baka Scrap Heap but if you have the foundations Buffout 4 AE it's fine.
  • Do not choose the Optional File Resurgence Black Screen Fix

Sims Settlements 2

  • The only thing you'll need to look at is the Optional Files Only.

Sim Settlements 2 - Previsibines Expansion Pack - PRP SS2 Conflict Resolution ESM

  • These is Creation Content Stuff the ppf-ss2-neonflats-cr and ppf-ss2-iongun-cr files included can be disabled if you don't have the respective Neon Flats or Ion Gun CC module installed
  • I have the Chapter 1 and 2 Version

Sim Settlements 2 Settlement Management Terminal

  • If you want this.

Rise of the Commonwealth for Sim Settlements 2

  • You don't need this

~Other Good Mod ~

  • That I liked but didn't make it in the load out

Addictol

  • You won't need Buffout4AE OR BakaMaxPapyrusOps as the will just conflict with Addictol.
  • You will need to Change The Addictol.ini settings for this to make work correctly.
  • This is still new and has problems.
  • Buffout 4 Mini Buff now points to this Mod
  • This Mod is made for V1.11.191, and is active.
  • Works better with CC Mods.

Bethini Pie (Performance INI Editor)

  •  This is an easy to use .ini editor, but i trust my Fallout4Custom.ini so I'm ok my Custom.ini does the same but, this is up to you.

More Active AI

  • If you like this more do not install the mods Created by Zzyxzz in the ~Combat~ section no need to have Mods that do the same thing in the Load out as it just takes a Plugin Spot needlessly.
  • They did work Together.

Karma

  • Has a Nexus Requirements that says it's a SOFT REQUIREMENT the PipboyTabs this has not been update for v. 1.11.191. and it's not need to have karma work.
  • Better off Mega Mods.

Npcs Travel

  • This is a big mod on its own
  • Should be left out of Mega mods

Zombie Walkers

  • This is a big mod too, it affects ghoul's as a whole.
  • Should be left out of Mega Mods, but is a very fun mod

Faction Workshop Manger 2

  • This has a lot going on as well and should be left out of mega mods.
  • Does some of the same stuff as You and What Army.

Sim Settlements

  • Do not Use with Sim Settlements 2
  • This works with America Rising 2
  • This works well with mods. Just not mods that change Settlement size or increases how much you can build.

~Tips~

  • Graphics - You'll only need 2 or 3 mods for this like solid weather, texture overhauls, and Shadow mods. It will be Best to ask is Reddit. These should be placed at the bottom of your loadout but always Above the .Prp Mod as this mod needs to be last.
  • Gun- you get about 40-50 small mods or 2 Mega Gun packs the best place to ask is Reddit. Gun mods should be placed between the CanarySaveFileMonitor and SS2. You have a basic setup with RobCo Patcher - AE and Makeshift Melee Pack.
  • Dont get Mods that over lap or do the same thing. This is wasting your plug in spots.
  • Remember this is a v1.11.191 only build. Always check the Mods version
  • Sometimes they hide the Version Number in the Preview Files Contents.
  • SS2 will crash... this is more to do with Fallout 4. and how the games Papyrus acts, and there's not much more you can do... other then take SS2 Slow.

Thanks For Walking this Lonesome Road with me

This List Is to Highlight Mega mods, And give you a good Foundation Mods Load Out.

  • There is a difference between Disk Drives a SSD and your HDD. Just know your HDD doesn't Transfer Data Quickly so you'll need to do a Smaller Loadout then most to have a stable game and your ~Foundation Mods~ must be set correctly if your Using a HDD.
  • if your on a HDD, Mega Mods may only work alone. To many more Mods and you'll start to see CTD so just go light on the gun mods and don't get 4k graphics mods . If your on you're SSD you won't need to worry about this as much.

[FO4] Fallout 4 a Wastelanders Shop for Guides.

Looking for the Fallout 4 Modding Guide for 2026? This is a one-stop shop that provides the latest install links for Mod Organizer 2, or Vortex, and essential .ini walkthroughs to get you set up for Modding. The Wastelander Collection Load out is for first time modders.

No, getting into modding will not feel easy but it will get easier. Here is some common mistakesi've made and this one we did forever ago, Steam! Yes Steam when you downloaded it way back when it was put into a place that vortex can't get it. Now MO2 will have this problem as well but its not a big deal and can be fixed. This video will go through it quite well and is not a long video so you should watch it fully. this is truly what might be locking you out. The vortex walkthrough goes through this as well if you want text and the video isn't working , I recommended that you go to the vortex walkthrough below for it will help you do the same thing even if you don’t want vortex the Midnightride goes though it as well.

I hoped to get you in the right place before you chose Vortex Or Mod Organizer 2, you should look into both of these before choosing one.

This is a guide for MO2

This is a gude for Vortex

The Vortex Guide to not using Vortex (V2.0) - Mod Rescue

This is more about how to save your Mod Collections that you downloaded though Nexus Mods, you will need to make the move to MO2 for this to work (the only one i know of), and The Guide to The way to not use Vortex will be at the bottom. This guide is not about getting Vortex Working. it about using it as a Mod Downloader only, this is for their Vortex only Collections.

If Vortex is Bricked and your mod collection is locked away and uninstalling Vortex is the only way forward you can save your collection by pulling your Staging Folder and your Downloads Folder from their current spot to a HDD drive or your storage drive. if you have not created and linked these folders letting Vortex auto do it they will be in different spots.

If Vortex created your Folders then Both Folder will be in a hidden folder, the Roaming Folder.

To get here you will hit the Windows Key (between Ctrl and Alt) + R. will bring up a search bar the type %appdata% click ok then go to vortex > Games > Mods . This should be your Staging folder and Downloads folder to a HDD drive is fine.

Moving these will make Vortex lose track and uninstalling Vortex will not take your collection away if your Games folder still has old vortex hard linked mods in it you can always delete the Data folder and revivify it though Steam or GOG.

Then you Install MO2 create a profile for these lost links and link MO2 file locations to these moved folders. a MO2 Query info will be needed to relink the mods to Nexus Mods.

the lower part goes though file placement or organization.

You should be good to go.

  • ~The Guide to not using Vortex~

If you want to use the Nexus Mods Collection this can be done with a mix of Vortex and MO2. when installing Vortex i would put everything on a HDD drive away from the games your Moding. Vortex, the Staging Folder, and The Downloads Folder.

You create 2 Folders name one (This Game) Staging Folder (Fallout 4 Staging Folder) and the other (This Games) Zipped Mods, the Download Folder (Fallout 4 Zipped Folder) and then you link them though Vortex's Setting as long as the mods you download end up in these folders correctly your good never to look at vortex again. Moving these file way from where they were link will make vortex loses track of the mods wich is fine. after move the folders away delete all the mods and its archive in vortex. but you must move the folders first or vortex will delete them.

  • if you want it to look cleaner you could always create a master folder and call it the Staging Folder and another one and call it Downloads Folder (Zipped Folder) and your Game own folders for Fallout 4 Staging and Fallout 4 Zipped Folders and move them into the Staging Folder or Zipped Folder.
  • if you want a faster game load in speed you can move your Staging Folder to your SSD where your game is stored and your Zipped Folders can be keept on any HDD Storage Drive but with MO2 its fine if both are left in a HDD Drive.
  • You could also create staging and Download folders for spacfic collections like Fallouts Tale of Two Wastelands > TTW Staging Folder , and TTW Zipped Folder > Link them in vortex> download the collection> as long as all the mods go into these folders correctly > then put the folders in the Staging and Downloads Folder locking out vortex. and then you would link MO2 to each of the respective folders. once done your delete all the mods in vortex to start a clean.

Download MO2 - From one of there many guides or https://github.com/Modorganizer2/modorganizer/releases

Creating Your MO2 Mods Collection Profile and Linking this way you will need revivified though mo2. and if you’re like a mod it can always be manually moved mods into MO2 own Staging and Downloading Folders and get rid of vortex.

You don't want vortex to touch any of your games and should be separated in this way.

After MO2 revivified and takes ahold of the Load order you can update though MO2 normally.

If your Mod has and install setup asking for diffrent setting at download and you wish to change these setting it this will require a redownload from MO2.

The stand alone Loot mod https://loot.github.io/ is needed for MO2 to have a better automated system.

all Script Extenders or anything that need to be placed in the Steam or GOG Games Folders along side the .exe needs to be manualy installed and placed.

I'm sorry if this doesn't help you but i do wish you the best of luck. as this suck and even more so if you paid for it.
