Adding a new puppy two years after last one.

So I have a wonderful 2 year old Shichon I got when she was 9 weeks old. She has been a very good dog overall and I would like to get her a playmate. House-breaking her was a little challenging but we got there. Haha.

Ideally, I would want the same breed and age but it is next to impossible to find one so I am looking at the puppies. There are a couple options I am looking at shortly. (Please don’t suggest rescues. I have been looking for quite awhile now and there just aren’t any Shichon rescue dogs near me and I don’t want a different dog.)

My question is this: is it easier to train a new puppy when you already have a slightly older dog who can help show them/demonstrate the things like house-breaking and social interactions/behaviors with people, kids and other dogs? I am a little anxious about doing the whole puppy training process again but I know it must be done.

Hey Roy Cooper - I want to see an ad stating you will fight for Medicare and Social Security

The time is now. You want support from the largest voting demographic? Then tell us that you want Social Security fixed now, and Medicare protected. The only one talking about this is Bernie Sanders who just introduced a bill. This is a golden opportunity for you to win support from people in both/all parties.

Quite frankly, it’s great that you are against insurance companies and the crap they’ve been getting away with but Social Security and Medicare are overdue for attention. There are easy fixes that can shore up the Social Security fund. Easy! Go to bat for the seniors, please.

Fertilizing Bermuda during a drought and high temps? Central North Carolina.

Newbie here. 66F doing all my own yard work for first time so be nice. 😊

This is my first house with Bermuda. New construction so it only has Bermuda on about 1/2 of the .7 acre lot. I want to encourage the Bermuda to spread to the bare spots. I know I need to fertilize and water as much as I can (which is hand watering only at this stage of the water restrictions) but I am afraid to do anything with fertilizer until I get this answered.

Is it okay to throw some fertilizer down while in a drought and the temps are in the 90’s everyday? Or will that kill (burn off) the existing Bermuda? And what type of fertilizer should I use? (Not interested in Milorganite.) Soil test I did last fall recommended synthetic 13-6-13 @6.5 lbs/1000 or organic 5-5-5 @6 lbs/1000. pH was 6.08. Is it reasonable to think that recommendation is still valid? I never put anything down.

What else should I do or do I just wait until we get more regular rainfall (could be August or September before that happens)? I know this will be a multi-year process before I get to having a mostly full lawn. (FWIW, I also bought a Pro Plugger to help the cause but the clay soil is so hard right now, I haven’t used it.)

So many things have been ruined by people not knowing how to behave in public anymore

There are so many things I don’t do anymore because I have no tolerance for people behaving rudely and selfishly (and sometimes dangerously) in public. I realize there is nothing to be done about it. Humanity (for lack of a better word) is spiraling downward. At least in the U.S. Here is a list of what I don’t/won’t do anymore. Can you relate and/or add to the list?

- airline travel (fights, smelly foods, feet on armrests, long lines/people pushing)

- seeing a movie at a movie theatre (cell phones and people talking, infants being brought to the movie because they didn’t want to pay a babysitter)

- going to live concerts or festivals with tons of people (wondering how many are carrying a gun, high on drugs and ready to get into a fight)

- going to a bar by myself just for a drink/change of scenery, a meal or to watch a sports event (men assume I am there to get hit on or some people just stare at me like I have no right to be there by myself)

- driving on highways (in NC we have the worst drivers I have ever seen. And no law enforcement presence at all).

Yeah, I miss the times when people really did know how to behave and respect the rights of others when out and about. This was before social media turned most everyone into a narcissist.
