How Anti-Woke is My Novel?

I am writing "The Agent & the Medic": a 400-page novel that started out as a Black Widow fanfiction. It is set in the near future in post-oil Alberta, and the plot is about a mid-40s mother and late-teenage daughter uncovering and aborting a conspiracy targeting them and their few remaining family members.

I pitched my idea to my boyfriend and writing buddy. His first reaction was that it's woke, since it features sapphics & has some vague feminist message, and the protagonists are leftists. In addition, it is partially set in NYC post-Mamdani.

I cannot see why it is woke, since it is set in Alberta CA(for ignorant 'Muricans, an equivalent would be it set in Tejas) and stars two busty cisginger Yakubian wahmen. In addition, all the romances are monogamous and between family members or close friends. Lastly, the main characters are devout (new order)Mennonites, and as such, alcohol is featured throughout the text, both recreational, competitive, and medicinal.

What do you think? Am I being anti-woke enough? Or is my boyfiend, right, and my book is woke?

Imagine if Taylor Sheridan Made Heated Rivalry/Heated Rivalry Was in the "Sheridanverse"

I saw fans ask how HR would be different if another showrunner and studio acquired the rights to the story.

I was thinking about this since it is summer, and the most dramatic episode of Heated Rivalry takes place over summer break.

Moving on to the show, the setting would change: it would focus on the captain's two Western Conference Pacific Division teams.

Shane Hollander is the captain of the Calgary Flames. Instead of a prim and proper gentleman from Ottawa, he is a good ol boy from rural southern Alberta, Texan accent and all. He is still boring.

Ilya Rozanov is the captain of the Vancouver Canucks. He is still a playboy from Moscow. He is still an asshole.

Svetlana in the show would resemble Svetlana in the book, since Sheridan has a thing for blondes. Speaking of Svetlana, both Rose and Svetlana would have different personalities; they would be feisty, sassy, no-nonsense, and hot-headed, as most principal female characters in the "Sheridanverse" are crazy blondes. Imagine Rose or Svetlana having a hissy fit at the table, à la Beth Dutton(Yellowstone) or Angela Norris(Landman).

Meanwhile, Scott and Kip are from Denver; Scott is the captain and star centre of the Colorado Avalanche, and Kip is still an art student. Scott is a god ol boy from Wyoming or eastern Montana, Texas accent and all. Imagine Shane & Scott fighting; a good ol boy vs good ol boy standoff.

Since many fans theorise that Hayden is from Alberta, I think that in Sheridan's version, Hayden is a fellow Albertan, and a country bumpkin with a thick Texas accent.

The couple spends time alone at the cabin (not cottage) in the mountains near the border, which is conveniently a 1-hour drive to or from the Dutton Ranch near Bozeman, Montana, USA, including time spent crossing the border, thanks to TV magic.

I think he would still have cast HudCon, since he is not afraid to cast relatively unknown actors. For the supporting characters, he might have cast famous Hollywood actors.

There would be at least one dinner table argument per episode. Bonus if one person walks out or dinner ends early.

The characters mainly communicate using one-liners.The couple spends time alone at the cottage in Sweetgrass, which is conveniently a 1-hour drive to or from the Dutton Ranch near Bozeman, Montana, USA, including time spent crossing the border, thanks to TV magic.

The characters mainly communicate using one-liners. There is no use of subtext, irony, or symbolism, and I do not think he will insert many double entendres.

For music, Sheridan would likely pick country hits from the southern US, and possibly have Lainey Wilson perform in an episode. However, he might include some country hits from western Canada. For instance, the song "Won't You Be Mine" by Bobby Willis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K9JVUIPTT4) could fit the club scene (set at a honky tonk in Calgary).

I do not think there would be fewer sex scenes, and he will sexualise the leads more. For another stylistic choice, Sheridan would use lighting and colour grading fitting for the setting. For a place sunny and dry such as Calgary or Denver, he would use the same colouring as Landman: warm and muted. For a place cloudy and wet such as Vancouver, he would use the same colouring as Yellowstone: cool and bright.

A point of contention would be the weather. Sheridan hates cold weather, yet HR is a Canadian hockey show.

Lastly and most importantly, he would play a self-insert character, who appears at least once per episode: maybe a coach? In addition, he might include at least one scene per episode of him reigning, or as Yellowstone fans call it, horse spinnies.

For all intents and purposes, this is a joke and therefore not worth taking seriously.

Afternoon Tea with Shane & Ilya-Headcanons

Since it is summer/off-season, in the Game Changers universe, fans might hear about how the two co-captions of the Ottawa Centaurs spend their summer break.

One thing I headcanon they like to do during summer break is al fresco afternoon tea.

Speaking of, a likely headline fans will see in tabloids and other celebrity gossip outlets is "Canada's Shane Hollander and Russia's Ilya Rozanov Enjoy an Al Fresco Afternoon Tea".

An Unexpected Parallel

I have found an unexpected parallel between Heated Rivalry(both the novel and streaming series) and Trad.

Trad is a novel by Elizabeth Richardson. It is about a broke, dissatisfied single woman who decides to become a tradwife influencer by pretending to be a married mother of six online, and ends up putting her personal life at stake to maintain her brand and façade.

The parallel between Heated Rivalry and Trad: the message is you do not know public figures. You hear about their professional and personal lives all over media and news outlets, but everything you hear about them came from an approved outside source, not them directly.

As the kids say, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

RS/CT-esque Podcast Recommendation

Have you Cumtown boys and Red Scare girls heard of the Worse Every Day podcast?

It is run by married couple Darren and Crystal McPhee, who are also the creative director and executive producer of the production company Urban Video Inc.

The couple regularly releases episodes in which they provide cultural and political commentary from "dirtbag left"/"dark woke" perspectives, similar to the girls of Red Scare and the boys of CumTown. They release episodes on Patreon, YouTube, and Spotify.

Their content is quite humorous yet informative. As a bonus, the hosts physically resemble Adam and Dasha.

How to Ragebait Market

I am writing a sci-fi novel. I am yet to complete it, but I have a brief description.

The plot revolves around a late teenage girl and her mid-40s mum uncovering and putting an end to a conspiracy that is directly affecting their family(especially them, since most of their family members are dead).

However, I am worried I might be cancelled for some aspects of the story. First, the setting. It is equally set in rural Alberta (CA) and NYC (US). Second, the mum's backstory. She is ethnically Ukrainian, but she is of the diaspora: was raised in both Canada and Russia, and did not visit Ukraine until she was in her 20s. Last, the daughter's love life. She briefly dates her cousin, who is a few years older than her. I do not want to get cancelled over my novel, so instead, how do I properly "ragebait" potential readers to increase sales?

I decided to write it by combining multiple MCU/Black Widow Books(Margaret Stohl) fanfictions I have been writing since 2020.

I have not completed anything yet, but I plan to be done by 2028.

Why do They Have Inaccurate Accents?

I just posted a thinkpiece about the inaccurate portrayal of the climate, culture, and attractions. As such, I have decided to bitch and moan some more about the inaccuracy.

I have wanted to ask for a long time, but why do the Duttons have southern or Texan accents?

The Duttons: wealthy and educated western Montanans, should have standard western Canadian accents(ex. Hudson Williams in any interview), as should Monica since she is highly educated. Meanwhile, Rip, who grew up on a pig farm in rural Eastern Montana, should have a country/prairie accent(ex. characters in the Fargo series).

Just Watched "Marshals" and Rewatched Season 5 of "Yellowstone"-Rant About Both

Since Paramount Network has just released new spinoffs of "Yellowstone", titled "The Dutton Ranch" and "Marshalls", I have been thinking about the show. I plan to re-watch a few episodes, even though I do not plan to watch the spin-offs.

While I was watching the show, I thought it was a shame that Taylor Sheridan chose not to portray the setting accurately in the Yellowstone series and spinoffs. Viewers could have seen scenes of a winter wonderland, and a realistic portrayal of outdoor work in rather extreme winter weather.

But most importantly, viewers have missed out on scenes of the extremely talented jack-of-all-trades Travis Wheatley(Taylor Sheridan's "masturbatory" self-insert character) showing off his skills in winter sports. Specifically in figure skating.

I am sure viewers would love to see jack-of-all-trades Travis Wheatley(played by a skating double) nail jumps and spins(I imagined that his signature is a flying camel spin), shirtless or even in a swimsuit: because "only sissy liberals get frostbite or ice burns"(could be a line from the show; I am surprised it is not).

Picture this: it is 25 below out, the cows need to be moved to shelter, a ranch hand might lose a finger to frostbite, there will be a blizzard later that day, but have you seen him skate?

But I take one statement back: I don't think Travis would skate as well as an Olympian: as the term from the quote referenced is "jack of all trades, master of none"(Pharmacomastix).

In all seriousness, it's a shame that there is no mention of winter sports in the show, with exceptions being: 1. in an off-handed joke about Teeter being mentally handicapped and 2. when developers mention wanting to buy the Dutton's land to build a ski resort.

I know it is not supposed to be similar to "Spinning Out" or "Glitter and Gold", but Montana is a popular winter sports destination in the continental US, and the show includes commentary on the large tourism economy in Montana and how that affects the state and its locals, so why not show a popular tourist activity?

But who knows, maybe we will see more winter sports scenes in "The Madison", which will feature more commentary on tourism and gentrification in Montana(since it is about a NYC family moving to rural central Montana). A "crack" prediction of mine is that Taylor Sheridan's self-insert character in "The Madison" will be a retired olympic figure skater turned local first responder, who will of course always be ready to save the day, show off his skills, teach the "city folks"(the principal characters) how to live out in the country, and deliver a PSA to pander to the target audience.

I apologize for the use of passive voice, rambling, and the rant about how the show is inaccurate. I have been drinking because it is my day off from work today.

Thank you for reading my post, and have a good day or night.

Customer on the Phone

I cannot stand it when a customer is on the phone during a transaction. Unless they are calling 911, they can put their call on hold for 2 minutes. And if they cannot, they can use self-checkout, assuming they are paying with a card.
