Tablets in IISERs (read body)

Recently bought this e-ink tablet for myself, it's nothing too flashy like an iPad or something, solely for reading books and taking notes has a 2 weel battery life (because you can't do recreational stuff on it) can I use this for note taking and stuff in lecture halls? Do professors prohibit use of tablets or smthng, lmk fam

LETS MAKE IISERs GREAT (AGAIN)

Body padh lo!!!

With Round 1 results out, and some of you locking in your choices and most of us who will lock them in by R2 (once the cutoffs drop further), we pretty much have a clear picture of which IISER we're headed to.

We all know this subreddit can get a little too doom-and-gloom sometimes (with all the fearmongering associated with it), so heres a thought: what if us IISER freshers start an Instagram page, kind of like those IIT fresher intro pages? A space where we post about why we are choosing IISERs and a little intro through 3-4 slide posts, show off some creativity, and put these institutes in a better light for once and build a community across instagram.

If it takes off, "meet the freshers" posts could become a yearly tradition something every incoming batch looks forward and i dont see any such communities on insta like we have on reddit

Now, I'm not great with graphic design (though I used to make some fire ass presentations back in school), so I'd love to connect with someone here to design the first 3 posts we can pin at the top.

And the last thing, if this page actually happens, would you all be down to collab-post on it? (obv such things wont work if people dont take the initiative to engage with it)

If you're interested in making graphics/posts for the page pls dm (send some designs too if you have them with you!)

IISER mohali badminton scene 🥀

I'm a states silver medalist (1sr runner up) in badminton and played for dav school so IISM me i hope to play badminton and I'll be joining iiser mohali this year(hopefully), I have a few questions

  1. How's the badminton scene at mohali? How many indoor courts do they have?

  2. Wood or mat?

  3. Do they win iism badminton (by they I mean mohali)

  4. Should I bring my kitbag with my luggage on the day of returning or should I bring it on a later date?

Seniors educated in this field please help me with some of my questions

  1. What majors are growing in India? (if i want an industry job in india after phd), im interested in the overlap between Biology and DS (computational bio)
  2. Any seniors who study the computational bio niche/know someone who does, is the industry related to that growing in india? i.e. does it have a decent pay after phd?
  3. im scoring 149 in iat so is IISERM possible? since i heard the life science department is the best one there (pls tell me if you disagree, would love to hear)
  4. If i want a path in computational biology, Bio as a major and DS as a pre-major sounds sensible?
  5. IISERM has a bioinformatic dept afaik, will it help me explore this interest?
  6. Again, is the industry regarding this niche growing? or should i explore other things too after i get a college?

PS: I started out as a NEET aspirant, couldve gotten a decent mbbs college, but when i asked myself in mid 12th if i can actually do what is mostly rote learning over the course of 4.5 years, i realized that path is not for me and studying an interdisciplinary course like the one IISER offers is a much more sensible path. i can indulge in some rote learning tho, bio interests me a lot but i like learning coding languages, up until now i have finished the web dev languages (html, css,js, but the oncoming of AI made it useless) and decent in python
Developing what skills would give me a better edge over my peers targetting the same niche?

F*CK EVERYBODYYYY

IISER ka banda bolta hai research me scope nai hai Paisa nai milega, weird anjali har dusre video me bolne aa jati hai ye tough wo tough koi industry job nai

Doctor bolta hai mbbs,md,dm ram ke vanwas ke tarah hai, financially independent jaldi nai ho pate, long hours kaam karna padta hai

Btech wale bolte hai tier 1 cs ke alawa placement hi nai hoti, isiliye engineering kabhi mat karna

I rarely meet helpful seniors, all of you people just crow about your problems and project them on us juniors, ek 17-18 saal ka baccha kare to kare kya??

THE RE-EVAL PAGE IS ONE SHIT-ASS SITE MANNNNN

  1. The site doesn't have http secure, its running only on http that means all our information is being sent back to the server in the form of, extractable clear text and visible to everyone whos on the same ISP, just IMAGINE lakhs of student making payments. sure no one cares about our roll numbers but this is still a huge huge fault since payments are involved
  2. if the main site (after loading) even has https, it certainly doesnt have HSTS meaning every redirect just sends to you back to http, which is again, leaving us vulnerable twin
  3. No X-frame, no CSP in the script, basically, someone with the same isp can leave fake buttons with malicious js script potentially enabling them to clickjack the payments we make
  4. On the frontend side, the /pvr thing in the url you see is a JavaScript SPA (angular maybee) that renders nothing server-side THAT MEANS if js is slow or blocked which it fucking is rn, we see just a blank page

A country burdened with unemployment, has its own govt organizations hiring cheap developers who vibecode such an important site, a passionate web dev freelancer would do such a better job for free just to have "dev and deployed for CBSE/NIC" on their resumē, im so done with this country and its organizations man
