He made the other fully grown male look small.

Found Map on Wind River Reservation

This is a long shot but I found a map in a very remote part of the wind river reservation over the weekend. The map had detailed notes from someone that did a pretty extensive trip out there. If it’s yours and you can describe it a little bit I’ll get it back to you or at least send you a picture so you have the notes you took. I know I’d be pissed if I lost it. Obligatory picture of a pine marten from my trip included.

New tent slightly too big

We are heading camping in a couple of days, and have a new tent for the first time in 12 years. At our usual park, we got one of out favorite sites. It used to have a yurt that you could book, but the yurt has been decommissioned, and now its used as a frontcounty campsite, and you pitch your tent on the 17 foot round wooden platform left behind from the yurt.

Slight problem, the tent is approximately 14 feet by 10 feet, and after come quick calculations, will overhang approximately one inch at each corner.

How big of an issue is this? I feel like it will be fine, and my partner thinks it is not fine. I've included pics of the site and the tent. Any advice is appreciated!

Edit to add comment:

Thanks everyone! I don't think we realized just how big the tent was when we bought it. We've had a 6 person tent for the last 12 years, and it felt small.for a six person tent. I think we overcompensated with the 10 person tent.

Going to go and exchange for a smaller tent. Thanks again!

Vargo Titanium Dig Tool — Sharp End Solution/Suggestions?

Picked up this Vargo Titanium Trowel recently for my poop kit. Realized the handle was quite sharp. I plan on wrapping the handle itself with paracord, but I'm not sure how to best approach the top of the trowel. I'd imagine it would dig into my palms or potentially ruin the bottom of my shoe because it's so sharp. I've seen a sort of "cap" that fits on top of The Deuce shovels, but don't know of anything like that for the one I have. Does anyone have any suggestions/solutions to the sharp end?

Soooo Jeffries as well ?

We know Jeffries is a speech giving political hack that is not willing to do what needs to be done, he needs to be demoted, but if this is true about Jeffries (another speech writer) , we seriously need to start kicking these f?cks to the curb!!

100k race in just over 2 weeks. What sort of mileage should I be doing this weekend?

Pretty new to the ultramarathon scene so unsure about what I should be doing this close to the race. Would love some advice from people more experienced.

Bit of a background on my running so far.

Did my first ultra in March starting with a 50k. Had 5 marathons under my belt at that stage with my PB being 4:05 last October. Had been aiming for sub 4 and was well set for it but about 10 days before race day I had a situation that threw my fueling and sleep out the window so I ended up blowing up at 22.5 miles on the day. About 2 weeks after that I decided to take the leap into the ultra world and signed up for my first 50k. Took it handy on the 50k and really enjoyed it and finished in 5:52. I enjoyed it so much I signed up for the next race in the series which was a 40 miler (64k) in the middle of May.

I did a marathon 2 weeks before the 40 miler as a training run and took it handy and finished in 4:42. Took the weekend in-between the marathon and 40 miler off from long runs to recover and finished the 40 miler in 7:27 and knocked 14 mins off my 50k time during that race.

Next up was another marathon 2 weeks after the 40 miler which I did last Sunday. As I've been training for distance rather than pace, I was just going to run it for the sake of running it as it's my local marathon and I'd signed up for it last year. One of the girls in the running club I'm part of was running it and wanted to get under 5 hours. She did 5:01 last year in this same marathon which was her first. She had been aiming for sub 5 last year so was very disappointed. I offered to run with her and help her get under 5 hours. I'm delighted to say she smashed it and she came in at 4:47 so I got a lot of enjoyment out of that.

After the enjoyment of Sunday, I decided to sign up for the final race of the trio of races in the ultra series which is a 100k taking place on the 20th. As this is uncharted territory for me, I really don't know what mileage I should be doing this weekend. Should I go out and do 20 plus miles this weekend or should I be taking it easy. The most I've done is 40 miles (64k) which was 2.5 weeks ago. The body felt surprisingly good after that. I was shocked when I woke up the next day and had no aches or pains. Body is also feeling very good after the marathon last Sunday. Just really unsure what I should do this weekend.

All advice appreciated.

Can my hatchet be saved?

I’ve just gotten back into backpacking with a friend from work, after many years of not being out. We did an overnight hike on the short loop of Wildcat Hollow Trail in Wayne National Forest in Ohio. The trail overall was nice, but unfortunately, day 1 was pure rain from before we got out of the van at the trailhead until after we were asleep in our bags that night.

Nearly everything got soaked, including my hatchet and its sheath. Sheath is getting replaced as it’s all frayed now too. But I’m hoping to save the hatchet! Is there a way to clean these brown, rusty bits off? I figure that my sharpening stone will clean up the edge of the blade fine, but what should I do about the rest of the ax head?
