DD “pinned gas block”

I’m somewhat over gassed on my setup and I’m already running an H3 buffer. The gas busters CH definitely helps with gas to face (virtually no gas to the face right now). I know DD uppers have a pinned gas block. What does that mean for options to reduce the gas or should I just live with it since it doesn’t seem to impact rifle performance. I’m getting 2 o’clock ejection but no jams and the recoil isn’t noticeably bad.

Is this over gassed AR a problem?

You can see the rounds ejecting at the 1-2 o’clock position with a suppressor. I’m also getting a lot of gas spewing out. What size adjustable gas block is needed (I.e. .75”)? I’m already running an H3 buffer. The gas busters charging handle does keep the gas out of my face at least and there were no jams even at rapid fire (super safety mode). The surefire closed tine adapter didn’t cause this much gas and it ejected correctly but it was louder and had significant flash from the suppressor. So it wasn’t really effective.

1911 feeding issues

So I’ve cleaned the gun and fired 230 grain FMJ flawlessly through it. No feeding problems. I use Federal HST and it jams every few shots while feeding a round into the chamber. It extracts the casing just fine but the new round going in gets stuck on the way in. I have tried 6 different mags (3 WC mags and 3 Colt 7 rd mags). They all behave the same. I had this exact same issue with HST in my MP5K and the solution was to use Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain because the tip was easier to feed. It worked flawlessly in the MP5 like ball ammo. Is this a known issue with 1911s? I’m going to try some Critical duty 220 gr +p ammo.

Love them. Very accurate and useful in low light situations where iron sights aren’t.

BLUF: IMHO… 507C > DPP. At least with my personal experience.

I bought the DPP ($450) for the Five Seven and this little optic has given me nothing but heartache. At first glance it was beautiful sitting on the Five Seven and I couldn’t wait to take it to the range. I tried to bore sight it and the red dot wouldn’t move left/right. I’m like WTF… is it broken? I google the issue and it says it might be over torqued. This was correct but I had to loosen it to the point that the whole sight wiggled in order to turn the LR screw. This is annoying to tighten it, fire, loosen, adjust, repeat. Ok, strike 1. I get it adjusted and now the red dot turns off after every other shot or so. Google it and it says reposition the battery if this happens. I did and it went away, for now… imagine it needing repositioning in a fire fight. Strike 2. I went home and pulled it out and then the red dot looked hella blurry and spotty. I cleaned it with canned air and cotton swabs. No help. It just looks like shit… Strike 3. I took my AP5M to the range with a $225 Holosun and had no issues. Zeroed it in under a minute and it’s much easier to operate vs the DPP. It somehow always looks clean and clear no matter how many times it goes in the same exact bag I transport the FN. The dot also doesn’t get loose or need to be torqued just right nor does it need to be babied like the DPP. Luckily I bought them both at the same time (less than a month ago) and decided I’m not going to force myself to love the DPP just because it looks nice and the price tells me it’s supposed to be better than a 507C. I sent that PoS back and bought another 507C for the Five Seven. I look forward to zeroing it in once I get it. Can’t wait to enjoy this FN without all the mishaps.

I think I know the answer but I’m going to ask anyway (guessing answer is stick to semi unless right on top of the target). I don’t see a lot of info on shooting technique when burst firing. I zeroed in at 25 yards and with semi fire, grip held, and stock extended this thing is dead accurate at that distance on in. When I put the super safety on I am lucky to get two shots on target and three is out of the question. Typically it’s first shot in, second shot at 10 o’clock, and third shot will be high left off target. I see videos of people with super safeties mag dumping with full control on target. Should I swap the fore-grip out for a flat hand guard and use a C clamp holding technique like an AR15 to help control the weapon?

So amazed with this pistol. I could never get accurate shots with this thing and decided to watch some YouTube videos on how to shoot pistols effectively. Went to the range to apply what I learned and immensely increased my accuracy with the 1911 at 3/5/7 yards. Crazy how simple and accurate this thing is considering I just have the basic Colt GI version.
