41 possibly pregnant. Emergency contraceptives?
I’m 41, have two kids, and I’m not on birth control and never really have been. About 2½ months ago I had a D&C to remove an endometrial polyp. The last time I had a D&C was after a miscarriage in 2011, and I ended up getting pregnant with my rainbow baby almost immediately afterward.
My husband and I honestly don’t have sex very often because I’ve been dealing with abnormal uterine bleeding for about 2½ years. I bleed between periods, my actual periods last around 7 days and can be extremely heavy, and the cramping can be so severe that I’m basically attached to a heating pad and sometimes can barely function. I’ll randomly get a few glorious days with no bleeding, which is what happened this month.
Well… I finally wasn’t bleeding, so I gave in. 🤦♀️ We had sex on cycle days 13 and 14 with no condom and only used the pull-out method.
Afterward it dawned on me how quickly I got pregnant after my previous D&C, so naturally I went straight to my apps. According to my Oura Ring temperatures and Glow, my highest-fertility days were around cycle days 12–13. In the past, when I was tracking ovulation more closely while taking progesterone for the abnormal bleeding, I would also typically get high-fertility ovulation tests around cycle day 13 and then start progesterone a few days later.
So basically, I may have managed to have unprotected sex right around ovulation. 🫠
I absolutely do not want to be 41, unexpectedly pregnant, AND still dealing with all of these uterine bleeding issues.
From what I’ve been reading, if I had already ovulated, Plan B may not be effective. I’ve also been trying to figure out my IUD options for emergency contraception. The copper IUD worries me because I already hemorrhage during my periods and have horrible cramping, so the possibility of making my bleeding or cramps worse sounds miserable.
Has anyone been in a similar situation where you believed you had already ovulated when the unprotected sex happened? Was there an emergency contraception option your doctor recommended or used after suspected ovulation?
Would the mirena be too late for insertion tomorrow to prevent pregnancy?
