Met a toy store owner ( one of the biggest in Bhubaneswar ). And he said the availability of new cases gonna be worse day by day not because its not coming here but the distributor is hording large section of HWs with him, selling them in black and in his website, and even after getting paid by retailer on time the distributor is not giving them stocks and forcing them to buy more mattel products ( barbie, uno and other board game ) even after this he is giving them peg warmers, and in some cases he is replacing TH, STH and other high demand cars with regular one.

So this retailer has done a meeting with mattels india at their mumbai office regarding getting the distributorship for Odisha, offered them triple value of what is being offered by the current distributor, but guess what Mattel india is not interested. And rejected the offer by simply saying we already have one and he is doing his best for us. Even after so many complaint regarding the distributor from retailer, mattels india is not ready to replace Odisha distributor as he his their best distributor.

The toy store owner also said top level are getting their pocket filled thats why they dont want to add new distributor coz if they do they wont make money from back channel.

My take -

HWs is what's actually keeping Mattel India's numbers healthy. Barbie/Uno aren't moving on their own, so making HWs scarce forces retailers into bundles.

The distributor holds back TH/STH/chase, forces the bundling, and feeds the rest to scalpers ( himself) at 3-4x resale.

Mattel's India doesn't want to touch him because his numbers look fine on paper, he is fullfilling mattels sales team work by moving dead SKUs ( barbie/uno/board game) along with sharing some scalping profit with the top management.

Hosted our first r/HotwheelsBhubaneswar meetup this weekend.

Amazing experience meeting local collectors, checking out collections and trading cars.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up, brought their collections, traded cars, shared stories, and made the whole vibe super fun. ( and apologies for the sale section, we will try our best not to repeat the confusion. Also, do share your feedback )

Really cool seeing collectors who only knew each other online finally meet in person and instantly connect over diecasts.

and I really hope we can grow our Bhubaneswar | Odisha diecast community best among the others.
