My love for Deltarune only grows stronger

I'm not sure what any of us were expecting from ch5, but I ended up being really happy with what Toby Fox and the team put together. Realizing how many years have passed since this journey began feels so surreal so I wanted to share my thoughts after finishing it.

The callbacks to ch1 in Asgore's dark world felt like a nice reminder of how far both the story and the characters have come. Walking through the Garden of Hopes and Dreams, seeing the Floradinns again, and revisiting the puzzle where Susie first joined the party all tied into the theme of "one last fun adventure". The Forgotten Man's room was probably the moment that stuck with me the most. When Scarlet Forest started playing, I immediately recognized it. Finding that secret back in ch1 is still one of my favorite memories from playing Deltarune, so finding out he won't come back was very upsetting.

I've also seen quite a few people criticize Asgore's flowers, but personally I thought they fit into his story really well. They're clearly trying their best to take care of someone who's carrying a lot of guilt and emotional weight, but I liked how they were also comic relief. Their loyalty to Asgore made the ending of that section feel much sadder, knowing they have to remain in the flower shop all alone.

Another thing that stood out was Susie and Noelle. Their relationship has been slowly developing since ch2, so it was nice to finally see their moment by the lake that shipper's have been waiting for.

The character development throughout the chapter was what I appreciated most-

Susie used to be someone who kept everyone at a distance and acted aggressively because she didn't know how to connect with people. Seeing where she is now really highlights how much she's changed. She has genuine friends, people who trust her, and a place where she feels like she belongs. Learning that the dark world is her true home was my favorite close out of any of the chapters.

Ralsei has probably had my favorite character arc throughout the game. They've always been willing to put everyone else before themselves, sometimes to the point of ignoring what they actually wanted. Watching them figure out how they want to express themselves instead of simply filling the role the prophecy expects them to play was really satisfying. It feels like they've become a much more complete character than they were in the earlier chapters.

+ Im glad flowery wasn't just another character ralsei could deal with and could actually talk back to.

This chapter reminded me why i've loved this game for so many years. The story, characters, music, and small details all come together in a way that makes it easy to get attached to the world. We've watched these characters grow over what has only been a few in-game days.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Deltarune next year!

Did this ruin anyone else's thoughts on the normal route or even just this scene in particular??

Looking back on it now, im glad Noelle and Susie got a moment like this, it just doesn't feel right anymore after the weird route. Playing the weird route just feeds into her intentions that's been in the back of her mind, SINCE DESS LEFT. We don't know when she left or why, but I mean its so sad to think about

snd_next?

Creds to linxaOTHER on YouTube for finding this!

snd_next is the sound played during the last cutscene of the weird route, and by putting it into a spectrogram it reveals a Noelle-shaped image.

This I believe further amplifies the theory that Noelle and kris had not drowned from the lake. Noelle's last actual sprite is her smiling, so if this "sprite" comes after, it means they had reached her goal, the other side of the lake.

Initially I wasn't on board with this theory because we can hear kris and/or Noelle take damage from drowning, but I really hope someone will count how many damage points are taken off in that scene. If I am correct and each time we hear damage taken its by 1 (as in they lose 1 health each time). Kris's desc. tells us they have 20 health in the light world, although they had already lost some by this time. By checking this I think we can prove they had both taken not enough damage to die.

Another reason I had thought they drowned was because Noelle said "Tell me to grow wings... and fly out of this stupid town!" which I believe is VERY suggestive in this case, she is clearly at her limit. Though obviously it could represent her eagerness to arrive in the unknown.

Im still very mixed on my opinion but I would love it if they survive and end up in some sort of depths. The weird route is very unpredictable so there's not much I can say moving on from this chapter haha

Are there more people that think they did drown or the other way around?

+ I would love more theories
