What if a Succession Contest winner’s Guardian Spirit Beast keeps evolving after the contest? Nasubi may be the proof.
We tend to think a Guardian Spirit Beast is basically “finished” when it emerges from the Seed Urn, reflecting who its host is at that point. Nasubi’s Beast makes me wonder if that only applies to the beginning. His GSB was born during his own Succession Contest decades ago, yet the version we see now has fourteen pairs of breast-like structures. Nasubi went on to become King and produce exactly fourteen princes. If that number is intentional, then maybe his Beast didn’t simply preserve the form it had when he was a candidate. Maybe it continued developing as he changed, eventually reflecting the role he grew into.
That would make the design much stranger than simple fertility symbolism. Nasubi stopped being one prince competing for the throne and became the person who produced the next entire field of successors. His Beast may have changed with him, from something that helped him survive the previous contest into something representing the King’s role in maintaining the dynasty and generating the next cycle. If that’s true, then the winner’s GSB may not just survive after the contest, but keep evolving long after everyone else thinks the contest is over.
