How much and what kind do I put into my Deferred Comp (457) and Roth IRA?

Hi, I work a local government job and will have a pension at 65, we do not have a 401k and are required to match the pension, its pers 2 with DRS (If anyone was curious). I have only been working there for 1.5 years and am 49. My previous jobs do not have retirement. I have a Deferred Comp that is not matched that I wanted to add to but I dont know if I should do the pre tax or after tax. I also am starting up a Roth. I have about $600 a month that I am going to try to put in both. Should I do half and half or put more in one versus the other? Thank you

I’m still spending more than I want to…need a good budgeting app

I have cut down on a lot of expenses but I’m still not saving what I want to per month for how much my expenses are. I need a good budgeting app that tracks my purchases. I know that some people are against credit cards but I use 3 of them every month on all my purchases and pay them off at the end to use the airline miles. In 4 years I’ve never paid one penny of interest. So with that being said, is there an app that I can put my credit cards in and it will automatically track my spending every month?

Questions about what percentage to put in my Deferred Compensation 457 and Roth or other investment.

Hi, I've asked this question in many different finance groups but have a hard time getting a good response, I think because many people don't know what a Deferred Compensation 457 is. So I work at a government job, we get a 5% match into a pers 2 retirement through DRS, not a 401K, we are required to matcha and unable to put more money into this. The only other retirement account we have available is a deferred compensation 457 (pre tax or after tax) account and it does match. I also wanted to start a Roth or other investment account. Also15% of my income per year is $10,500.

A little about me. I am almost 50. I have not debt and rent a room. I have emergency fund and in addition 3-6 months of expenses in a high yield savings and some in a CD in case I want to put money down eventually on a home to buy.

First question, do I continue to add money to these 2 accounts or just let me ride?

Second question, how much money (if any) should I put into a deferred compensation vs Roth vs another investment account?

Thank you.

Where to put my money starting at 50?

Im still learning…
I just got a government job almost 2 years ago. I have no debt but no assets, I rent a cheap room and drive a cheap paid off car. I have a little extra in a CD.
At my job we are automatically matched to our pension every month. I am going to start a Roth IRA, at Fidelity online I think and max that out. After I max Roth, to reach 15% percent retirement, it would be about 3k a year. Should I put the remainder into my deferred compensation (not matched) at work or start a money market, index fund or ETF? I know the names but know nothing about how I would start. I would like to maybe one day buy a house so I was hoping to have some available in case an opportunity would open down the road.

Starting a Roth IRA

I want to start a Roth IRA, do most people just go on Fidelity or a similar company and start one? Or do most people find a broker first? I don’t have a lot of money, but I’m getting older. I need to start something in addition to my pension.

How do I start a Roth IRA?

Hi I’ve been doing research and want to start a Roth IRA and then maybe next year start putting money in my deferred compensation at work. They don’t match. I have a pension that matches though and I max the match. I’m almost 50 but don’t make a lot.
Do I just go online and start a Roth IRA through fidelity or something? I have only about $1000 to start it? Or do I need to find a reputable broker, is that what they’re called? There’s not any scammers right? Thank you

What blood pressure medication has the least side effects?

I know every body is different but I have tried 2 different medications and they have all given me horrible side effects to where I can’t take them and work. My body is very sensitive to all medications so I don’t take any.
A year ago I was able to control my blood pressure by my diet only but for some reason I’m unable to do that now. I’m not sure why, I have other health conditions so I need to keep my blood pressure down. Does anyone have any other ideas of medication or supplements or anything else that could help me? I try to exercise as much as possible but have bone on bone knee arthritis so it’s hard but I do eat well. No sugar or red meats, fried foods, I eat mostly chicken and veggies. I’m 49 for reference and my BMI is 34 and in the process of losing weight . Will it get lower the more I lose?

Do fire stations still check car seats?

Hi my kids are older now and I remember that you use to be able to go there and they would check to see if your car seat is properly installed. I now have a new grandbaby. Do they still do that? Do you need an appointment or just drop by? If they don’t do that is there another place that does? Thank you

What type of account should I keep my money to save for a house/car in the future.

Hi, I am curious what type of account I should keep my money for savings? I have some money in a CD that I keep rolling over and some money in a high yield savings. Should I use one of these accounts to continue to add money to every month? I dont have a time frame of when I want to buy a home or a car. I am in a place right now where I am in no hurry. I could save for 5 years or 15.

Hi, my partner has a cold that he can’t get over. He doesn’t have health insurance. Where can he go to get treated that’s not going to break the bank?

Hi, I have my retirement stuff figured out but I want to put money away every month to eventually put a large down payment on a house or something.

I have some in a CD and some in a high yield savings, should I use these? The only problem is I didn’t realize that I needed to pay taxes on them every year so I didn’t last year. Is there something that taxes you at the end when you take it out instead of every year? I want to save for about 5 to 10 years if possible before taking it out.
