Check your Front Sprocket Bolts - Current Plus

This is probably not specific to the Current Plus, but that's what I have.

I picked up a couple of Current Plus bikes a few weeks ago, primarily as pleasure bikes for a pair of aging (yes, boomer) empty-nesters. I try to get out on mine every day, with motor assist set to the minimum so I get a little exercise. I've logged about 225 miles so far.

A few days ago I started to hear a creaking noise as I pedaled; more pronounced with more effort. I did a bit of AI-assisted web searching and it suggested my belt was loose. Well it most definitely was, so I fired up the Gates app and tensioned it. That seemed to help a bit for half of my next ride, but on the return trip it seemed to get much worse. At first I suspected that I hadn't "trued" the rear wheel in the frame during the retensioning, and it did appear to be off a tiny bit. So I fixed that and plucked the belt to check the tension. Rather than getting the expected "thrum" sound, I also heard a buzzing noise. I checked my wife's bike (currently less than 100 miles) and heard no buzzing. I'll mention that I heard the same buzz when I first tensioned it but didn't think much about it at the time.

While poking around looking for the source of the buzzing, I discovered that 3 of the bolts holding the sprocket to the crank assembly were loose and could spin freely in their bolt holes; the 4th was barely finger-tight. Fortunately the nuts on the back side were still present, so I tightened them and the buzzing disappeared. I suspect those were actually the source of the creaking noise but haven't been out for a ride yet.

Is this a common occurrence on new bikes? Is applying some loc-tite a reasonable option?

Mouse Cursor Size Adjustment?

X4: Foundations 9.0 on CachyOS KDE/Wayland. I'm currently running the game at 4K on an 85" TV.

My eyes aren't what they used to be and the mouse cursor is tiny regardless of the UI scale. I know I can lower the resolution to get a larger cursor, but outer space is just so frikkin pretty at 4K, and my GPU doesn't seem to be breathing hard.

I've installed a mod that changes the cursor color; it helps a bit but it's not ideal.

EDIT: So changing the resolution does NOT change the cursor size. I assumed it did but never tried it.

CachyOS with VKB Gladiator NXT EVO Premium Grip w/Omni Throttle

This is probably a post for a very limited number of X4: Foundations enthusiasts 😁

I've been using a ThrustMaster T-Flight HOTAS One with X4 and find that the HOTAS really enhances the immersion for the game. Now, this particular HOTAS leaves a lot to be desired in accuracy and utility, but for me it's definitely an improvement over MnK or gamepad (Xbox Elite 2 controller in my case).

I had no issues configuring X4 to use it; every button/axis/rocker works as expected but it just feels a bit cheap and sloppy. It's also inconvenient to switch between the HOTAS and mouse/keyboard when I'm navigating the map and menus or leaving the cockpit to walk around the ship or station.

So I ordered the the sticks mentioned in the subject in the hope that the additional controls and analog mini-hat stick might reduce reliance on the mouse/keyboard.

As mentioned in the subject I'm running CachyOS (I can also boot Windows but would rather not). A little AI-enabled research has provided some udev rules that appear to prevent CachyOS and/or X4 from failing to determine which controller is which, but I'm a bit concerned about the 32-button limit that the Premium grip violates. There's apparently an option in the Windows-based VKB configuration software that turns the stick into two separate USB devices ("Stick" and "Stick Base" essentially).

Is there anyone here that has worked through this already? Any tips to share? If not ... well I guess I'll have to come back later and detail either my success or humiliation in getting this setup to work 😉

EDIT: I've learned that the 32 button limit may be old news, and that X4 currently supports 64 buttons per controller and up to 8 controllers simultaneously.

Note: The rules for this sub appear to require flair, but the available flair options aren't really relevant ...

It Happened Again ... (Fiber Distribution Hub Wide Open)

Roughly 9 months ago I posted this: On my Walk Today ...

This afternoon I found the hub in the same state as pictured in the original post.

Coincidentally this was approximately 36 hours after the brief outage I posted about yesterday. Weather prevented me from walking that day so it may have been open when the outage occurred.

I closed and latched it myself, then notified Fidium commercial support. They're rolling a truck to see what's going on.

Maintenance in Mid-Coast Maine?

We've had a couple of relatively brief outages starting at around midnight (it's 00:50 as I write this). Just wondering how extensive it is (or, hopefully, was). First outage started at exactly midnight and lasted about 22 minutes. The second at 00:46 and lasted a little over 2 minutes. Topsham/Brunswick/Durham area ...

EDIT: It wasn't a DNS issue. We definitely lost our connection; the fiber light on the ONT went red. I restarted the ONT and rebooted my firewall (even though everything looked fine). When it came back up it was unable to acquire an IP address. The ONT went green and the connectivity was restored a few minutes later, though.
