Virtual shifting not always available in companion app

I don't have a bluetooth controller, but often I run companion app on an iPhone. On a separate iPhone is where I run rouvy. I have the most recent download for both the primary+rouvy phone and secondary+rouvy companion phone, and have used the virtual shifting with success, but sometimes it's not there as an option even though the companion app is clearly synced.

Moreover, when it doesn't show in companion, the virtual gear icon also will not show on the route itself, above my watt output, etc.

Any ideas?

Fastest crossing into Canada ever (I didn’t even come to a complete stop)

With Nexus my average interaction at the border is < 60 seconds, but yesterday @ Lewiston going into Canada…

I didn’t use the Nexus lane because another was open. I was holding my card out as I would for a reader (even though the non-nexus lanes don’t have one). As I was coming to a stop the guy asked if I had anything to declare. “no”, I replied. “have a good day” and off I went.

Since the interaction began as soon as he could see me I don’t believe I even came to a complete stop. I’m assuming he had a few seconds with a plate read to figure out who I was…

Denied late flight claim without details

Last month my flight was cancelled with reason "due to a last-minute aircraft unavailability". I was rebooked on another that left a few hours later and I arrived > 3 hours late.

Submitted a claim on June 10 and 27 days later they get back to me with a denial:

> A technical issue is the main reason for the delay...This reason is not part of the aircraft's planned maintenance, and is therefore considered to be under our control, but required for safety.?Consequently, it does not entitle you to compensation under the Canadian Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR).??

I emailed them back asking what the technical reason was and, a week later nothing.

Should I pursue with APPR? I find this kind of "piss off and go away" without even explaining the reason to be distasteful. I assume these airlines are audited on their denial reasons, but at the same time how can they simply deny without indicating the reason?

Fiumicino Airport random data point June 29

Flying out of terminal 3 today as a non-EU (but am visa exempt) I had heard nightmares. accordingly, for a noon flight we departed our bus at 8:21 AM close to T3.

We did already have boarding passes and used priority baggage for air Canada (I’d estimate non priority would have added 10-15 min tops).

Security line was very short.

passport exit control also very short. I was *exiting* passport control at 8:44 am.

Now with hours to kill I went to the vista lounge (bought tickets on lounge pair for €30 because the lounge is ”full”), which IMO is *well worth the money* because of the unlimited food and coffee, seating, etc.

BTW we did **not** have prints taken entering a week ago or exiting; it looks like Rome is not presently implementing the new system due to its delays. I saw all the new machines but they are roped off.

Club auction seats are a scam

London to Toronto. a few days preflight I bid for a club seat @ $525. $510’was the minimum.

26 hours before flight “sorry you didn’t win”.

okay…

I then online check i….

”would you like to book a club seat for $725?”

Don’t any of you dare pretend that in the two hour window here all the club seats had been auctioned and then by my check in somebody had cancelled the flight.

Wheel/tire damage on rental from curb hit covered?

Per rules no response after 3 days ( https://www.reddit.com/r/ChaseSapphire/comments/1sxajsn/comment/oq2keec/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) so asking more briefly.

Rented in UK on my sapphire preferred, declined CDW. I have a very good video of the car, including wheels before I picked it up and then a video and pictures after the event.

bmw i5. I nailed a curb (not speeding) causing wheel and tire damage. car got recovered by Six, who I called immediately after it happened. I have a report number from them, but I’m thinking I’m gonna have to wait for everything to be settled on their end before I have any detail details about what they think it’s gonna cost.

I cannot find anything in the agreement that would exclude this since it wasn’t a road hazard in my view; it should be treated like hitting a tree or a signpost. But it’s stressing me out!

Live in USA with minor daughter. She was made beneficiary to a TFSA worth $10,300 USD in 2025. I liquidated it. She received in her name a TR4 (it's Canadian but I'm converting to USD here) with $1100 USD in income and $275 USD in taxes withheld (25% as nonresident).

As owner of the TFSA I filed an FBAR for her. Since I had signature authority I filed an FBAR with sig authority for the same account under my name.

I believe that the TR4 fully satisfies any Canadian taxes for her, so I have not filed anything with Canada.

Since the TR4 was in her name, and it's her income for the USA, and she's below any filing needed thresholds I also didn't file any USA taxes for her. She has no other US income, and we have nothing else from Canada.

Keeping in mind no desire to revisit the debated topic here of TFSAs and 3520 filings, am I missing anything else?
