CIVIL ENGINEERING

Hello Seniors I am considering NIT Rourkela Civil Engineering as one of my options during counselling and would like some honest insights from current students, seniors, and alumni.

I have a few questions:

  1. How is the Civil Engineering department in terms of faculty, academics, labs, research opportunities, and overall learning experience?

  2. What are the placement opportunities for Civil students? How are the prospects in core companies, PSUs, and non-core roles?

  3. How challenging is it to maintain a good CGPA in Civil at NIT Rourkela?

  4. What is the overall campus culture like? Are Civil students able to participate actively in clubs, student bodies, technical societies, sports, and fests?

  5. Would you consider Civil Engineering at NIT Rourkela a worthwhile choice compared to Circuital like EE/ECE in mid NITs?

  6. How many Civil students eventually go for GATE, PSUs, CAT, UPSC, or transition into software/analytics/consulting roles? Do PSUs comes to campus?

  7. Does NIT Rourkela provide opportunities for minors, specializations, or interdisciplinary programs in areas like Computer Science, AI/Data Science, Electronics etc?

What are the eligibility requirements?

How competitive is the process?

I am currently exploring different career paths and do not have a fixed branch preference, so I am trying to understand the flexibility and opportunities available through Civil Engineering at NIT Rourkela.

I would greatly appreciate both positive and critical perspectives, especially from those who are currently studying Civil or have graduated from the department.

Thank you Seniors! 🙏

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Hello seniors, NIT Kurukshetra Mechanical Engineering is one of the options I am seriously considering during JoSAA counselling.

I would appreciate an honest and detailed review from current students or alumni regarding the following:

How is the overall Mechanical Engineering department?

•Quality of professors

•Teaching standards

•Lab facilities and workshops

•Difficulty of academics and grading

What are the placement opportunities for Mechanical students?

Core mechanical placements

•Non-core/IT placements

•Average package and placement percentage

•Major recruiters

•How strong are internship opportunities?

How is the college culture and student life?

•Hostel life

•Clubs and technical societies

•Fest culture

•Sports facilities

How difficult is it for Mechanical students to prepare for:

GATE

•IT placements

Are minors, electives, or interdisciplinary courses available in areas like:

Data Science

AI/ML

Electronics

What are the research opportunities available for Mechanical students?

Looking back, would you choose Mechanical at NIT Kurukshetra again? Why or why not?

What are some things that counselling cutoffs and placement statistics don't tell prospective students?

I am looking for genuine experiences—both positives and negatives. Any advice would be very helpful.

Thank you Seniors !🙏

Civil Engineering

NIT Warangal Civil Engineering is one of the options I am seriously considering. Before making a final decision, I wanted to hear from current students, seniors, and alumni.

I have a few questions:

1)How is the Civil Engineering department in terms of academics, faculty, labs, and overall learning experience?

2)What are the placement opportunities for Civil students?

  1. What is the general situation regarding core jobs, PSUs, higher studies, and non-core placements?

4)How difficult is it to maintain a good CGPA in Civil at NIT Warangal?

5)What is the overall college culture like? Are Civil students able to participate actively in clubs, technical teams, sports, and other extracurricular activities?

6)Is taking Civil at NIT Warangal worth it compared to Circuital branches at Mid NITs.

7)How common is it for Civil students to prepare for GATE, UPSC, CAT, PSU exams, or switch to IT/consulting roles?

8)Does NIT Warangal offer minors in other disciplines (such as CSE, ECE, Data Science, Management, etc.?

If yes:

What are the eligibility requirements?

How competitive is it to get a minor?

Does it help in placements or skill development?

I don't have a strong preference for any particular branch yet, so I am trying to understand whether Civil at NIT Warangal can provide good opportunities and flexibility for different career paths.

I would really appreciate honest opinions—the good, the bad, and the things you wish you knew before joining.

Thanks in advance Seniors! 🙏
