Pet Peeve Alert: "Deeply Personal"
Reading reviews of the latest bland pop outing from Jack Antonoff and Co. (credited this time to Phoebe Bridgers') Lost Weekend...
Reviews that describe an album as "deeply personal".. let's check the producer/lyric credits for track two, Lost Boys:
Producers: Phoebe Bridgers, Tony Berg, Ethan Gruska, Jack Antonoff, Alex G
Lyricists: Phoebe Bridgers, Christian Lee Hutson, Marshall Vore, Bo Burnham, Alex G
It took five people to write these lyrics? Nearly every track has a vertiable school bus full of producers and lyricists to craft music that sounds similar to, well, basically anything Antonoff slaps his name on.
Hey, thats fine if you like Antonoff (in Phoebe Bridgers flavor this time).. go and enjoy the music! But why do these critics try to fool us into thinking this stuff is even remotely personal??
Kate Bush's The Dreaming: producer, lyricist composer: Kate Bush.
THAT, just as an example, is deeply personal.
