Mitre spring clamps not biting properly & sliding.

Is there a technique to placing them?
Should I try sharpen the points with a file ?
Buy better quality ones?

Got these in a bundle. Never seen such large turn screws.

One I can’t find a makers mark due to pitting but the other is a Marples & Sons Sheffield.

What would be the use case for these in woodworking?

On the list to restore but many things higher on the list!

Just got this sweet art card, I could not justify the price of the actual full sized print. Going to use my hand tools to make a frame for it!

Center marking gauge

Took inspiration from this video
DIY Center Gauge - Quick and EASY Woodworking Tool from The Wireless Woodworker
https://youtu.be/Z94pdEocvPs

Made with some scrap teak (?) I rescued from a broken garden chair & thin piece of oak offcut laminated together.
The brass rods are 5mm x ~50mm (I cut a 100mm rod in half)

I am going to make another one about half the width as this is too long for shorter pieces of wood.
Also want to find a way to make the lead stick out less so it has less chance of leaning while marking.

Psa: When rounding over things then make the part that attaches to it smaller in width.

Decided to change the design mid build and put round overs on the square potty stool im making forgetting to then reduce the width of the legs.

Luckily I noticed while dry fitting so it’s not a big deal but thought I’d mention it for anyone else who may or may not add round overs to something

A while back I asked about Star-M 601 drill precision bits and got no responses. I bought them anyway and they just arrived.

I have just used the 10mm bit from the set of 16 I bought and it’s phenomenal.

I used it in my bench top drill press and got no tear out!!
The difference compared to my brad point bits is very noticeable and the fact it can drill overlapping holes with ease was impressive!

Definitely not a cheap purchase and I probably shouldn’t have splurged on them but wow I’m so happy!

I used it to make a small mallet with a piece of oak scrap & 10mm oak dowel.

It would have made a massive difference on a few of my previous builds where visible dowel pins had a bit of tear out that I could not sand or plane out.

New tool day!

If you all disagree that a good book is not a tool then I’ll delete the post/ Mods please delete!

I have been trying to follow some online information and videos on sharpening my saws and gotten average to good enough results however I saw this book from Lost Art Press by Matt Cianci and held off buying due to the price but finally pulled the trigger as I keep getting distracted on my phone when watching videos / looking for information!

I must say that on first flick through this book looks incredible with vast amounts of information and beautifully crafted!

Love the little Rake guide and will definitely have to make some of these!

New to me plane. Never used wooden ones or restored them so looking for any information or tips please

Found this old wooden plane for £3 and it has a small crack on the nose. Stamped with 2 1/4 on one end & MUNN on the back which I presume was a previous owner.

Before I dissemble and clean it I would love to get everyone’s opinions on best ways to do it or any reading material people can link.

I will be watching some YouTube on these as well so any video recommendations would be appreciated

Converting a chest into a tool chest.

I have this chest I was using for scrap wood however I am going to convert into a tool chest.
I have roughly laid out my planes but want some pointers / suggestions on how to do it.

I have been watching lots of ATC & Dutch tool chest videos to see how other ones are done.
I am think of adding sliding tills towards the top for chisels/ accessories.
Adding a section to add a few saws.
I would also like to add 1 brace & 1 egg beater drill but these are not ‘musts’.

It’s a heavy stationary chest with a no 5 vice fixed on it and I use it with a bench hook for planing as well.

What glue was used to seal this & can it be repaired ?

I know it’s not financially sensible to repair a £2.50 toy but I can see the ‘glue’ joint and was curious what type of fixing was used to secure this stretch toy

Help with correct adapters / setup

I currently have a Temu airbrush with small usb charged compressor.

Worked well enough with a lot of mess to paint a few old hand tools but it was non consistent and I want to upgrade the airbrush.

However I want to connect it to my Dewalt DCC1018 instead of buying a dedicated airbrush compressor.

I know I’ll need an additional PSI dial and some adapters.
I have a hose that’ll go from my compressor to the psi dial with a euro quick release adapter but then I want an adapter to go to the hose that’ll go into the airbrush.

Any recommendations/ advice / suggestions are welcome !

Any clue what this is used for?

Initially thought it was a water valve t handled tool but the end wasn’t quite right

Smooth enough is a lot less cosmetically perfect than I originally thought for a hand plane sole.

My record no.7
I’ve been slowly restoring it because it felt like it was going to be a monumental task to flatten this heavily pitted sole.
I decided to get try get the blade dialled in and have a go and got great results with the sole still looking like this.
I have been using 120grit sandpaper on a long mdf piece.

Still needs a bit of work to clean the mouth up and a couple other cosmetic things but considering it was a solid block of rust when I originally started on it I’m very happy with how it’s working.

Stanley 64 spokeshave I restored to useable condition recently & I am learning to use it. Best videos or articles on using these?

I have watched a bunch of videos on these but most are either flat soled or not this type of blade you adjust with a pin hammer.

Would love some suggestions on what videos or articles people would recommend for curved sole spokeshave advice.

Watched some woodbywright, Paul sellers & some others but obviously there are too many to watch and list so looking for ones people have resonated with enough to recommend

I appreciate any responses

NTD! I added an AdjuStar Mini to my Record Marples no. 4 plane and can’t believe the difference it makes

I’ve been debating getting the full sized one which was the only one I knew about for months for my Stanley 5 & 1/2 but didn’t really think it would make a difference. Then saw they did a mini one for Stanley/Record and impulsively bought it while looking at tools in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep.

It arrived today and I fitted it and am in love.
The micro adjustments I can now get are crazy.

To preface this I have Chronic nerve pain through my body and often struggle with finer movements so not everybody may get the same level of improvement I did from this but either way I thought I had to make a post about this and will be buying a full sized one soon!

I have taken the screw and rods out of the remaining part of the vice and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or plans / videos on how to make a wooden vice with the metal screw & or rods.

Also any other places to ask this question would be appreciated.

For those curious, I over estimated the strength of this vice while calibrating my torque wrench 🤷‍♂️
