Navigating athletes & Sunday games

This is something that I worry about more and more now that my son is getting older. To summarize, my son loves baseball and seems to be really great at it. He is very passionate about it and wants to play as much as he can. He is only 8 but has goals of making it on a high school team and then playing in college (I know there’s slim chances and every 8 year old says this, but I do at least want him to play in high school if he loves it.)

In our area, high school sports are very competitive and in order to be on a baseball team it’s pretty much expected for you to play club/travel ball. My son wants to do it, especially when he’s a little older, but I have already told him it probably won’t happen because they play on Sundays and honoring the sabbath is really important to us. He is a spiritual giant and wants to keep the Sabbath day Holy as well, but I know that a part of him feels sad that he can‘t play club due to games on Sundays.

Because of this, I’ve been feeling really confused about why God would give his children certain talents if we can’t use them to our fullest extent. I know that by not palying club ball, my son is not going to get nearly as much playing time or experience as those kids will, ultimately putting him behind in something he really loves and seems to be very gifted at. Do I just tell my son that he likely won’t make the HS team later on because he can’t play club? I feel terrible for letting his little dream die, but I also want to teach him that God comes first. But does this mean that no faithful Latter Day Saint can ever play team sports that train or play on Sundays? Does God want us to not pursue those talents because they conflict with the Sabbath day?

Are catching lessons worth it for an 8 year old?

I have a very enthusiastic baseball loving 8 year old who is particularly in love with catching. He started catching at 7 and has been catching on his past 2 teams and hopes to be a catcher when he’s on minors next year.

He begs us for private lessons, but I’m wondering how effective or “worth it” the lessons would be at this point. He took one at d-bats a couple of months ago and loved it and the coach said he has more passion for it than most of the kids he coaches. In general, the kid is very self-motivated in many areas of life. He has a long attention span and works hard. I have warned him that catching is very tough mentally and physically and that seems to make him want to do it more.

He plays several other sports (soccer, swimming, basketball) and loves it all, but baseball has his heart it seems.

I guess my question is, is 8 to young to do consistent catching lessons if he’s expressing a lot of interest? Would it make sense to wait until he’s a little older, or is there a lot that he can learn at this age that would benefit him on minors next year? My husband plays catch with him and “coaches” him on what he can, but he was never a catcher and doesn’t feel very qualified to coach that.

Baseball catching coach in the area?

This might be a long shot, but I’m looking for a private baseball catching coach for my 8 year old little league player this summer. He used to take some lessons at d-bats but the catching coach has left. We would love to find someone that can work with him just once a week this summer. He is a huge baseball lover, an eager learner and is always asking for catching lessons.

We’ve reached out to a few high school baseball teams to see if they have any catchers that would like to coach a kid, but I thought I’d ask on here to see if anyone has any direct recommendations or connections.

Thank you!

Long story short, I’m filing a claim with the copyrights claim board on an Etsy seller who stole my design and resold it with a commercial license to several wholesale sellers. The product has been taken down due to copyright violation, but unfortunately not before the other sellers purchased her fake license. Now, my design is being sold on t-shirts in 20+ wholesale shops and boutiques across the nation.

I am needing the shop owners name to file a claim, but unfortunately the seller doesn’t have her name listed anywhere. Etsy lists her shop as being UK based although she states she’s an “Alabama girl.“

Anyone know how I can possible get her name? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks!

The product is a digital design. Someone bought it from me, listed it on Etsy and sold commercial licenses to people who are wholesale suppliers. As soon as I knew the seller was selling my product on Etsy, I filed a report and Etsy took the listing down. I was not aware, however, that prior to this they had already sold commercial licenses to people. (they actually also stole another one of my designs, as well as other people’s. Someone even left a review saying they pressured them into purchasing a $200 license, and then later found out it was a stolen design.)

long story short, my design is now on several different wholesale marketplaces and is being sold in dozens and dozens of boutiques across the country. Many have begun taking them down at my request, and so have some of the wholesale sellers. Part of what complicates this is that even though many of these wholesale sellers have made great profits on the item, they did not buy the stolen product knowing it was stolen and had no ill intention.

Regardless, I know intent does not dismiss the case and that they are still liable. I would like to earn a portion of the profit that was made from my design and plan to file with the CCB. However, I am unsure of who to file against. Do I file against the original Etsy reseller, who willfully and knowingly stole my product? or do I file against the wholesale sellers who have profited much more than the original reseller has, despite no ill intention? Do I file against both? I have tried to come to a settlement with one of the major whosesale sellers but she is claiming she can’t find records of her revenue and then sent me an email after speaking with her “lawyer” telling me she’d pay me $450 but I have to sign a “global release of all claims.” I told her I wasn’t going to accept anything until I see how much she has earned on the product. I don’t want an unreasonable amount of money and understand that she is a victim too, as many of them are. I want the wholesale sellers to keep the money that they earned from putting the design on the shirt and shipping. I do think asking for 20-30% is fair, if not generous, considering the design is the only thing on the shirt and the reason people buy it.

I am also aware that the other parties can deny the CCB and then I would have to proceed in federal court, which I don’t even know would be worth it. I don’t have all the money in the world for a lawyer either, and from speaking with one it sounds pretty pricey (they quoted me $650 an hour just for them to write letters to all these people)

I’m sick to my stomach about my design, that I poured my heart and soul into, being profited off of when I am trying to raise a family as a stay at home mom with a side business. I don’t care if I sound selfish or greedy - every artist and creator deserves to be compensated for their work fairly. I would love any feedback on how to proceed.

I asked them to take it down. They stole my exact design that is for personal use only. Still waiting to hear back from them. It seems like it has been a best seller on their site and they have over 195 reviews on it and have probably profited a good amount of money on it. is there anything else I can do about this?
