Georgia resident and I've been driving with a regular license for 10 years now. No interlock, no probation.

Just moved to New York and went to the DMV to get a New York license and have my car registered.

Little did I know that they have a lifetime ban for DUIs over 4.

Well, guess what? They took my license for life. I've never been in trouble in this state.

If I can help one not go through what I've been through, mission accomplished.

Spent my whole life drinking, multiple DUI's, multiple prison terms.

My last DUI in 2019, I had enough. My mission was to obtain my license (suspended since 1990), so I quit drinking and didn't drive a single inch.

My recovation was 6 years ending 7/9/26. Within these 6 years I did everything asked, DUI classes, multiple reinstatement fees and fines in four different states.

In May I called my DMV (Tennessee), they said I could drive with the restricted if I get a interlock and insurance. Yeaaa. Did both, took written and driving test. During my picture, they informed me New York had a hold go ahead and sit down and they will contact Nashville.

5 minutes later they called me back up there and said New York dropped a hold. Yeesssssss. Finally, I'm legal to drive for the first time in 36 years.

On 7/9 when my recovation was up, I went to get my regular license with a interlock restriction, no more to inform work only.

Nooooooppppppe. New York pops back up. They gave me a case number to call the DMV in New York. New York said to pay $750 whatever, 300 civil, and 100 reinstate driving privileges and wait for a letter.

DENIED FOR LIFE. TAKE MY MONEY.

If you have multiple DUIs and one of them falls in the states that have a denied for Life ban, don't even waste your time.

I never had so many mixed feelings of suicide, depression and the urge to drink again.

Crooks, snakes and thieves.

"Pay your fines, reinstatement fees and will send you a letter".

Sounds good while I'm driving on a restricted license with interlock, paying insurance to boot.

Nope sucker, thanks for paying all that $ idiot, here is your lifetime ban from driving ever again.

I haven't been in New York since 1989 and they ban my Tennessee license. 4 life.

Why even spend another dime appealing it, they should have told me this before I had everything installed on my car, SR-22 insurance.

Now Im cutting this interlock off myself and going to drive without a license and insurance.

I did everything right. Quit drinking 7 years ago and haven't got behind the wheel not once. Went through all the hoops to actually be able to drive in Tennessee. Had everything installed, paid every fine, I was able to drive back and forth to work.

Now I'm eligible for my regular license they deny me for life?

Tennessee DMV told me the only way I could get my license back, restricted, it's to get another DUI, and drive during my recovation period. What a joke.

New York took my license for life AFTER they said to pay all fines.

Was on a 6 year revocation here in Tennessee. Before my 6 years I was eligible to drive back and forth to work. When applying for hardship New York dropped their hold. On the 6 year mark they wouldn't drop it.

Called, paid fines, license privilege fee, etc. Stole my money and sent me a letter stating my license is no good for life.

So to all you people saying one state can't take your license you are wrong. I was able to drive in my home state but no more.

I'm finding conflicting information.

Just wondering if anybody knows if Virginia and Tennessee are both on the interstate driver's license compact list?

I'm a Tennessee resident, with the interlock for a DUI here and New York running consecutively.

20 years ago I got a DUI in Virginia, completed the classes but had to have a interlock.

DMV cannot find Virginia. It's so old, the courthouse is unable to find it too. I can't get through to the Virginia DMV. Thanks 👍👍

To the people saying that a different state can't suspend your license you're highly mistaken.

Tennessee resident, suspension in Tennessee for a DUI in 2019. 6 year suspension that was up yesterday. 5-21-26 had a interlock installed and able to drive to work, etc.

Went to DMV yesterday to get a restricted so I can drive anywhere but with interlock. Nope.

New York suspended my Tennessee license for a excessive speeding ticket from 1990. Failed to pay driver's responsibility assessment. Reason being I was a wanted fugitive from California and I was extradited by the Marshalls.

I haven't been back to New York in 30 years, also lost my license that same year for a DUI in California. I haven't had my license for 36 years, but qualified for a restricted in May. New York never popped up and I went to get my regular license with interlock. What a joke.

I was able to get 10% on a 2025 Camry XSE, but these RAV4 are hard to negotiate a decent price.
