Controlling garage inventory stored in various unmonitored rooms

Can anyone please help - I’m facing that age old problem:

We’ve got bins and bins of labelled garage items. There is a sign out process and most guys mean well, but we nevertheless incur A LOT of lost / unaccounted for use, which we’re only able to flag when we do a full garage inventory count every other week (time consuming!)

Has anyone found a working solution? We’ve explored QR codes to help facilitate the sign out process but we’d need a few months to really roll this out properly. Plus several of our guys are not super tech-savvy, so there would be some deep cultural change.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Shifting into garage/fleet supply chain: have any tips?

Hi guys ~ I’m shifting into a role that will involve managing the supply chain for maintenance and repairs of a large fleet of vehicles (mostly trucks). I imagine this will involve a lot of forecasting and just general management of inventory to ensure we never have too much/too little, as well as managing credit accounts, rebates and volume savings.

Can anyone suggest other KPI’s or general tips? I know a lot about garage work but this is my first time managing from a higher up level.

‘Mid’ picture but thought the Carleton U diaspora might appreciate this different angle

I spent four confusing/rewarding years in the Loeb building 20+ years ago and to this day I have soft spot for all things Carleton-related. Managed to grab this admittedly ‘mid’ picture this morning and thought I’d share.

Any other nostalgic alumni out there? What did you study? When did you graduate?

International community in Dali, Yunnan?

My wife and I are advancing in years and are thinking to spend some of our quiet retirement time in artsy/picturesque Dali. I’m sure we wouldn’t have trouble making local friends and finding Chinese restaurants to try, but we’re just curious if there is much of an international scene there at all? Every once in a while we’d like to have a conversation with other non-neckbeard adults in English and grab some non-local food or have an afternoon beer in a western style pub - are there communities like this in Dali?

Thank you for any information shared - surprisingly not much info online!

How often do you guys value engineer after winning a bid?

Just curious what project thresholds need to be passed in order for you to do this? We are so overloaded with new bids that this almost never gets done. It’s just bid bid bid!

Just wondering how often you drill down to try to find additional savings after winning a project? Is there a $ amount that triggers this behaviour on your team? Thank you
