Is anyone else getting nabbed by the cops on sight? I don’t have any stolen goods on me, I’m in costume, etc. Last time it happened I was in the fire truck, lights on, returning to the station after putting out a 5 alarm wildfire. They pulled me out of the fire truck and threw me in jail. Is this a glitch?
I was initially interested in applying for JS a few years ago, then got busy with other things and didn’t think about it until the March 2025 law was in the news. Now I’m seeing that a court ruling from a couple of weeks ago may have overturned that law in part, although I don’t fully understand it. Here’s a snippet of my family history:
My great-great grandparents, Giovanni and Maria, immigrated with their parents from two different towns in Brescia in 1903 and 1910. They were both minors when they left Italy. They got married in Massachusetts in 1912. My great grandfather, Frank was born June 1, 1918. At the time of Frank’s birth, Maria was not a US citizen. She was naturalized in September of 1918 in Albany, New York.
My grandfather, John, was born in 1947. (This is almost certainly irrelevant, but about 20 years ago he renounced his US citizenship. Since 1980, he’s lived in Canada.) My mother was born in 1967 in Wyoming. I was born in June 1992, also in Wyoming.
It is my understanding that under the 2025 law I may not be eligible for JS, but my grandpa John likely is. He’s still alive. If he were to become an Italian citizen, could I then qualify, or would he need to have lived in Italy for two years?
Is it expected that a favorable ruling on June 9th will restore eligibility for individuals born prior to August 1992?
