I’m a music content creator- question about royalties

Location: Philadelphia, USA

Hi! Posting I have a social media account where I sing covers and give vocal lessons without editing or fancy equipment. I am looking to monetize my work with a Patreon, but someone brought up the valid point that if I collect Patreon payments for content that is primarily built around other people’s songs, would I get into legal trouble on royalties?

I don’t think so since these are short-form covers, but if anyone is aware of any mechanical royalty pitfalls I should be aware of, I’d love to hear!

Also, any legal advice in setting up Patreon and running a content creation business would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Professional Musicians: I have a question about Patreon

Hey! I have been growing a pretty strong following on a singing channel on all the platforms, mainly TikTok and IG. My content is mostly based around entirely raw vocal covers that do not feature any equipment or editing.

Since the beginning of the year, I've gathered close to 4k followers and well over 1m views across all platforms and have gotten comments, likes, and shares from some very big names. This is not meant to toot my horn, just to tell you where I'm at.

For musicians who make a living online, do you think it's too soon for me to offer a Patreon/Buy Me a Coffee? I've been asked to give voice lessons which I dont generally do but so far people have seemed to really resonate with my lesson videos I've made. While I'm not formally a voice coach, this is what I'm thinking.

SUPPORT TIER for just a few bucks if anyone wants to show their support. I get a lot of requests for covers, so I could offer prioritized requests and maybe some exclusive videos.

MID TIER where I could offer something like exclusive acoustic covers for members and a few exclusive short-form voice lesson videos.

HIGH TIER including the benefits of the other two tiers with an option for members to vote on monthly lesson video focuses on particular singers or artists

Of course these would have to be built out more, but I'm curious! I've been hard at work growing this channel and have literally been asked for things like lessons and custom covers, so I feel like I might be able to do something here.

Should I give it some time or just pull the trigger? Thanks! 😄

Best hustles for a freelance creative?

Hi! I am an event host (weddings, bar trivia, karaoke) that also works retail but I want to quit the retail gig. I want to build income streams that are scalable and manageable with my lifestyle.

I am a touring musician and also run a singing-based social media account with 3.5k followers and over 1m views in just a few months. I would also like to start monetizing this channel.

I feel like I’m very very close to opening some great income streams, I just feel stuck. Can anyone please point me toward some good side hustles? Thanks!!
