I turned every Virat Kohli RCB season into a collectible card, which one do you think is his most underrated?

I built a small cricket game called Play 16-0, and I had the idea of turning every IPL season into a collectable card. Simple rule: the better the season, the rarer the card. Four tiers: Standard, Rare, Epic and Icon.

Started with Kohli's full RCB collection. 19 seasons in one place, going from a plain Standard card in 2008 to Icon after Icon in recent years.

You can also play it yourself, earn your own cards, and build an Ultimate XI.

I rated every Virat Kohli IPL season as a collectible card. Here's his full 19-season collection.

Hey guys! So I have been working on this free cricket game called Play 16-0, where you pick an IPL XI from any season and try to win all 16 matches. I basically rated every IPL player-season since 2008 (3,197 total) and made collectable cards for each one. Four tiers: Standard, Rare, Epic, and Icon.

Had to see what Kohli's full collection looks like, and the progression is something else:

The Rise (2008-2016):
Starts with a Standard card, just 165 runs at 0.2 CR. Slowly moves up to Rare, then Epic in 2011, and then 2016 happens. 973 runs. Icon. That season was just different.

The Renaissance (2017-2026):
2017-2022 are mostly Rare cards; we all saw those years. Then, from 2023, he just switched on again. Four back-to-back Icon seasons, 741 runs in 2024 at 154.7 SR. King for a reason.

You can earn these cards in the game by completing the daily challenges, and also by playing in normal and expert modes

Genuinely curious, if you had to pick just ONE Kohli season for your XI, which one? I keep picking 2016, but 2 title-winning season cards are top tier as well

The game is free at play16zero.com, check it out if you're interested!

Player cards are live + engine rebuilt from real match data

Two big things just went live.

Player cards

Every strong season now earns you a collectable card. Four tiers: Standard, Rare, Epic, Icon. You earn them by drafting well, not by buying packs.

  • Hit 14-2 or better in Normal or Expert to start pulling cards
  • Expert mode earns one tier higher than Normal for the same record
  • Daily Challenge top 4 finishers earn a card every day
  • Streak milestones (3, 7, 15, 30 days) each unlock one
  • 3,197 cards in the full set, every franchise has its own colours

Your collection lives at /cards. Full earn ladder at /player-cards.

Engine rebuilt

The entire dataset has been re-audited against ball-by-ball match data from every IPL season.

  • 165+ fake all-rounders demoted. A player only counts as an AR in seasons he actually bowled
  • 140 batting positions corrected to match real batting orders
  • Keeper and finisher tags are now season-true
  • Stacking 4+ openers no longer gets you to 16-0. Squad balance matters now

If your old strategy relied on loading up fake all-rounders or opener stacking, it's time to rethink.

50,000 seasons simulated. Thank you for playing

Six weeks ago, this was a small side project. Today, the counter crossed 50,000 seasons simulated.

For anyone new: you draft an all-time IPL XI out of two decades of history, the season runs 16 matches, and one loss ends the run. That's the whole game. Free, no account needed to play.

  • 50,000 seasons simulated
  • 936 of them went a perfect 16-0
  • 3,197 player-seasons in the draft pool, each rated on what that player actually did in that specific year
  • 6 weeks from launch to fifty thousand

Every one of those seasons is somebody who backed their XI and pressed go. Plenty of you came back after losing in match 15 with a side you'd have bet the house on. That persistence is the whole reason this grew.

Post your best run below - perfect seasons, heartbreak 15-1s, cursed drafts, all of it.

Play 16-0 bug fixed. If your career showed fewer seasons than you played, do this

A sync bug was removing seasons from career profiles (different totals on phone vs laptop). Fixed today. Nothing is lost; every season is still stored.

To restore yours: open play16zero.com once on every device/browser you've played on. That's it, it syncs back automatically.

Don't clear browser data before that first visit.

Still wrong after that? Please feel free to comment here, and I'll personally fix your account.

I built a daily IPL XI selection challenge based on 19 seasons of history. Tonight, the first players get their skill tiers.

Game Dev here - I'll go first: my current rating is 1515, and I'm predicting CHALLENGER Tier.

I deliberately kept the tier cutoffs hidden, so I'm finding out with everyone else.

Reply with your rating and tier when it lands. Screenshots welcome.

Made these player cards for my IPL simulation game. How do they look?

I run a small game around IPL history where you pick your XI, and it simulates a full season. 10k+ simulations played so far. These player cards are the next feature, and I will add them in a few days.

Each card shows a specific season, which is why Kohli's card shows 973 runs rather than career numbers. Gold ones are for all-time great seasons; team-coloured ones for regular seasons.

The second pic is where the design started. I'm not a designer, so I honestly can't tell anymore if the final version is actually good or if I've just gotten used to it. If anything looks off or something's missing, please let me know so that I can fix it.

This XI went 15-1 across a full IPL season. What would you change?

Sooryavanshi (RR '26), Gayle (RCB '13), ABD (RCB '16), KL Rahul (PBKS '20), Dhawan (DEC '11), Yusuf Pathan (RR '08), Jadeja (RR '09), Narine (KKR '17), Bumrah (MI '20), Malinga (MI '11), Chahal (RCB '15)
15-1. Strength 104.0.
The batting looks stacked, but the middle order feels like the weak spot. Would you drop anyone? Or is the bowling the real problem?

2016 Kohli or 2026 Suryavanshi for your XI?

Compare and play: https://play16zero.com/
Runs: Kohli 973, Suryavanshi 776
Average: Kohli 81.0, Suryavanshi 48.5
Strike rate: Kohli 152, Suryavanshi 237
Salary: Kohli 12.5 Cr, Suryavanshi 1.1 Cr

Hello, everyone. I have made this web-based game (https://play16zero.com/) where you can draft your XI from the 2008 to 2026 seasons. So, 2016 Kohli and 2026 Suryavanshi can open together in the same team.

Honestly for me it's close. Kohli's 973 is the greatest run-scoring season we'll ever see, but a 14 year old striking at 237 might be the scariest thing IPL has produced. I choose Kohli for consistency, but I get why people pick Suryavanshi.

I tried to keep it as real as possible:

  1. Salary normalisation - every player's salary is turned into a share of that season's actual purse and then put on a 100 Cr cap.
  2. No recency bias - Players from the older era have similar weightage to recent players.
  3. Tried my best to use the most accurate data available (Total 3197 player seasons available to choose from)
  4. Real names like Hardik Pandya instead of HH Pandya.

I would like you to play my game and suggest to me the changes you want to see - I will try to bring them as soon as possible.

A few things are already on my mind (tell me what you think):

  1. Survival mode - draft a team, and it runs through all the champions from 2008 to 2026; the teams that survive go into a Hall of Fame with your handle.
  2. Individual match simulation with full scorecard.
  3. Player retention - keep a few players and draft the rest again.
  4. Impact sub rule (I personally don't like it, but tell me).

Please try it and let me know what you think in the comments!

I made a daily cricket game and would love your honest feedback

Been working on this for a long time and finally felt ready to share.

You get a random team and season, pick your best XI under a 100 crore cap, and the game simulates the full season. The goal is to win all 16 and stay unbeaten. Same puzzle for everyone each day. Stats are real (2008 to now), and I tried to keep salaries fair across eras so old and new players sit on the same level.

I've put a lot into it and genuinely don't know if it lands, so any feedback means a lot, what works, what doesn't, what's missing.
