We’re finally done with most of the big stuff: walls, floors, cabinets, and the main furniture.
Now we’re trying to choose lighting, and somehow this is the decision that’s making my brain shut down.
I thought lights would be the easy part after choosing things like tile, paint, rugs, and furniture. Apparently not.
For anyone who has already been through this, how did you choose your lighting? Did you do recessed lights, statement fixtures, sconces, floor lamps, layered lighting, or some mix of all of it?
What do you love now, and what would you do differently?

What would you do first? Rug, table, lamps, or something else?

I’d love suggestions for making the room feel warmer and more lived-in while still keeping it simple.

Would removable downlight trims that you can paint to match your ceiling be something you’d genuinely like, or would it just feel like extra work?

I’ve been trying this idea with a set of white downlight trims. My ceiling has a warm beige tone, and the original white stood out more than I wanted, so I removed the trims and painted them to match.

I forgot to take a proper photo before painting, but they were originally standard white. After the first coat, the color still looked a little too cool, so I added a second coat. I’m waiting for them to dry now and will update the post once they’re installed.

Only the removable decorative trims were painted, not the LED modules or any electrical parts.

I’m curious what you would realistically do:

Would you repaint the trims after buying them, live with a slight color mismatch, or simply look for a downlight that already comes in the closest color?

And would a removable, paintable trim actually make a downlight more appealing to you, or would it have no influence on your decision?

Full disclosure: I work with a lighting brand, and we’re exploring whether this is a feature people would genuinely value. I’m not sharing a product link here, just looking for honest opinions.

A lot of my friends have cats too, but somehow all of their cats are way chonkier than mine. So whenever I visit, I end up taking an unreasonable number of photos of their fluffy little paws. I swear, looking at these pictures now, I can still smell them through the screen 😭🐾

Einige von euch hatten recht: Auf den ersten Fotos war wirklich nicht besonders viel zu erkennen. Deshalb hier wie versprochen noch einmal die Gaming-Ecke bei Tageslicht.

Abends mag ich besonders das warme Licht der kleinen Lampe rechts. Tagsüber kann ich sie einfach heller stellen, was ich ziemlich praktisch finde.

Jetzt sieht man allerdings auch das Kabelchaos auf der linken Seite etwas zu gut 😅 Was würdet ihr zuerst ändern: das Kabelmanagement, etwas Deko an der Wand oder vielleicht noch eine kleine Pflanze ergänzen?
