Can they even do this ?

Im still kind of new to credit I stopped paying verizon due to the fact my bill kept going up so it was sent to collections. Now its messing with my payment history ? Seems unusual I had T-Mobile sent to collections back in 2019 and they never said I had "late payments" while it was in collection. Any help on what I can do ? No Dave Ramsey advice "you owe so you should pay your debt" we all make mistakes especially in this economy lol.

I don't know where to start

I really need some advice please no negativity. I got laid off my job in late 2024 , I had 10 credit cards in total I started maxing all of them to pay my monthly bills. By the time I got a good job paying more it was already too late for 7 of these cards. I was so behind not making the minimum payments that 7 out of 10 cards ended up closing. I have so many collections and I still owe on the credit cards that I do have (they are maxed) . Where do I start with to rebuild my credit ? Do I pay off the cards that are still open first or start knocking these collections off ? How would I get my payment history back to 100% can I even get my bad payment history off my credit report? Anything helps... I am really stressing about my credit I feel like it's so bad that it will take a decade to turn around..
