Grandma is on her way out. She insinuated that everything outside her planned EOL expenses have been allocated to me.
Low estimate 500k. She is shrewd and a former banker so with stocks, assets and other funds it could be far more. I’m trying to be pragmatic about this and not expect much as she’s already been very generous with birthday gifts over the years and funded half our wedding. She has always been cagey about her finances but has always lived well and worked in finance her whole career.
My job is very rewarding but is extremely demanding, frustrating and 24/7 even though it’s “not”. I think I’ve been out in the field more than at home in the last month. I have a great union contract with benefits- my health insurance is excellent and affordable! l be fully vested into my two pensions in under 10 years.
When I mentioned this to my spouse, who is the main breadwinner in the family, they floated the FIRE idea. I’m in. How do we make this happen. I’ve always been of the mindset “well my 401k is fucked- I’ll work till I die” so this is entirely a new concept to me. How to we achieve this insane goal? We do live in a HICOL area but own our home and are beholden to our mortgage with COVID interest rates.

Somerdale road. It’s not illegal to block cameras if there’s no damage. People were putting post-it notes on red light cameras and it was ruled legal protest. YMMV

For anyone wondering how the strike at BWH is going, despite admin saying the hospital is running “business as usual”, that is most certainly not the case!
Only 1,300 scab nurses hired to cover 4,000 nurses. Doesn’t sound like business as usual to me! Reports of med errors, nurses not knowing what care is involved for our specialized patients, not having access to charts or medications until a few hours into their shift, all awful stuff.
Not allowing the staff nurses to walk off their units the morning of the strike for a few hours in units like the NICU due to MGB not adequately preparing for the strike.
Last night, *allegedly* someone in need was outside the ER and requiring medical assistance, yet none of the these “qualified” scab nurses came out to help. It got to the point that our L&D Night shift nurses at the picket line ran over to help.
But only after the hospital’s security tried to prevent them from going over to the patient of course. There was media present at the scene talking to union representatives afterwards.

I was visiting Gloucester this afternoon. I used the ladies restroom at the Gloucester House, (by the wicked tuna arcade game) around 1-2pm and I left a ring with a large looking stone on the sink.
