West Coast

Couple of hours back west. Plenty of mackerel there. Don't listen to anyone saying they're not in. Everyone I passed on the way down said it wasn't worthwhile that there was nothing there but hit them almost immediately. Wrasse was sight fished under my feet.

Save More or Enjoy My Youth

Need some advice from someone my senior. For context, I am 25. Taking home around 4.5k net. Pension is maxed to employer contribution. I work for 3 weeks out in Mainland Europe and come home for a week off (similar rotation schedule to people working on the rigs/mines). I have a load of hobbies I enjoy, mostly outdoor stuff, photography etc. I am not too bad for spending on the weeks I am away but when I come home I am the whole time going on trips abroad or in Ireland, going doing activities or buying gear for my hobbies and spending loads there. I am well aware I am in an incredibly fortunate position. My only expense abroad is food, and car rental for the week I come home (cheaper to rent than keep a car at home + insurance won't cover me as main driver as I am in Ireland less than 183 days of the year) so I have very minimal overheads. As it stands, depending on the month I am saving around 2.5k per month.

I absolutely love the hobbies that I do. I don't drink or smoke and don't go to festivals or anything like that. I am well aware that these are the best years of my life, between the freedom of not being tied down, the amount of time off I get and the job I have been fortunate enough to work in. My issue is, I know if i really knuckled down and cut back on the excess spending I could easily increase that 2.5k to 3.5 or even 4k at a push, but would mean sacrificing my hobbies. Part of me wants to save more, buy a house etc. and really set myself up well. There is another part of me that knows I will never have this freedom again and once I look at settling down, kids/family etc. that I won't be able to live near the way I do now.

My question to those older than me is what should I do? Is there anyone here who regrets sacrificing their youth for chasing money, or on the other hand anyone who wishes they did more when they had the chance?

Belmullet Pollock/Wrasse marks

Well lads. Looking for a few marks for pollock/wrasse. Myself and the mother going up to belmullet for a few days in 2 weeks. Wondering if anyone can shed some light on some marks worth fishing. Preferribly nothing crazy dangerous or remote. No issue going for a hike but don't fancy scaling miles of cliff faces/bogs. Have had a look on Sea Angling Ireland but hard to know if some of those marks are still producing or if the write ups are wrong. Any advice appreciated. Not looking for record breakers, just want to put her over a few fish. TIA!

If you are not micro needling you need to start!

For some context. M25, started minoxidil (foam) 2 years ago, saw some decent regrowth but still was shedding. Started Finasteride daily 1 year ago. Shedding slowed down, and helped to maintain some of the regrowth but that slowed also around 4 months ago (partly through inconsistency). Around 6 weeks ago I started microneedling 2x per week (10 mins around the temples and crown at .90mm followed by a generous dose of minoxidil liquid, using foam then in mornings and evenings on days I don't microneedle)

I can not stress this enough. The regrowth I have seen around my temples/hairline in the last 6 weeks is more than I have seen in 2 years. I don't have photos for comparison but believe me when I say I am shocked at the results. The morning after I can actually already see new hairs sprouting around the areas I needled, it is insane. If you are not microneedling it is absolutely worth looking into. I use the Dr.Pen microneedler. I am hopeful that I might have finally found the cure for me. Hopefully it might work for you too.

How to Get a Sleep Apnea Referral? - Advice Needed

Hi All, M25, 99% sure I have sleep apnea. I am living in Germany. I work here for 3 weeks then travel home for a week off. I don't have a GP here as I come home so frequently. I am wondering what the best way to get a referral to speak with a consultant who can do a sleep study + provide CPAP. I know it takes time to get appointments booked so wondering if i could start the process by getting a letter off my GP over the phone? Not familiar with how best to tackle this, as I am limited with my time when I am home it would be great if I could get the ball rolling now and line up a consultants appt for a week I plan to be home. Has anyone been through this process or can advise on how long it takes usually from initial doctors visit to being setup with CPAP?

Thanks in advance.

Pollock Feeding on Herring

Was down in Beara last week camping and Pollock fishing on the mainland and on Dursey Island. Hit a couple of slabs and when opened up looked to be feeding on 6+ inch Herring. Both caught on German sprats and made for a fine meal. Can anyone identify if these were herring or some other type of bait fish?

Skerries Spinning

Well lads. Heading to Skerries this weekend for the Skerries 100. Does anyone know if there's any spots in or near Skerries for a few bass/Pollock/mackerel, will be bringing the spinning rods only, haven't the space for beachcasting gear with the camping gear in the car and 2 of us. Don't mind a bit of a walk etc. Just looking to wet a line one of the evenings.

Surfskate for a Learning Lady

Hi All, looking for some advice on what board to pick for my partner. For reference I have a YOW Pipe 32" that she's tried a handful of times. She has loved trying surfskating just practicing on empty roads but my board is a little too snappy and unstable for her. Looking to get her something that's a bit more stable and cruisey, that she would feel comfortable riding on her own without me beside her. Unlikely that it will ever be used in bowls etc. Just for pumping up and down promenades and wide paths. She is around 5"6. Any suggestions appreciated :)

Belt Progression Advice

Looking for a bit of advice on belt progression. Bit of context, I am M25, trained nogi for around 6 months in my home country, did one white belt comp, broke one of my fingers and tore a ligament in my hand training in the gi not long after. I was between a couple of countries for work so between letting the injury heal and moving around a lot I have done very little BJJ training between then and now (around 1 year). I have now settled in another country and joined back into a gym, training nogi 3 times a week. I will be here for another 6-9 months, and will likely move to another country after that, staying there for another 12-18 months (I work as a construction project manager so tend to bounce between countries). I return to my home country every 3 weeks for one week so miss out on BJJ training in that week

My question is how realistic is a progression to blue belt with all the travelling around, disjointed training schedule and moving gyms every year or so. I know that should not be the goal, I train because I enjoy it, but I also don't want to go down a road where I train for 5 years + and never progress beyond being a white belt. If that is the way it has to be so be it but just wondering if anyone can advise or if they have been in a similar situation. Do I need to up the training in the weeks I am here to try and speed run to blue?

Firetruck/Ambulance Prevalence

Hi All,

Moved to the area around Hanau in the last 6 months. Within that time I lived for a short while near FRA airport. In the time I have been here I have travelled to a handful of different places around Germany. Never in my life have I heard/seen so many fire trucks/ambulances on the move. It seems as though there is always always a fire engine with its siren on, or if its off it won't be long till you see one in transit. As well as this every village no matter how small seems to have a fire station, and the firefighters often seem very young but are always outside training.

What is the reason for this? Is there a high risk of incidents/fires across Germany, or are people calling them for minor issues?
