Havic 6 Results
I just wanted to give you guys a quick write up on my experience with the Havic 6, and hopefully someone smarter than me can provide some insight on something interesting I noticed.
First off the sound: The can sounds good. I put it side by side with a Rhodie 6 on both 11.5” rifles and 16” rifles. Had someone else shoot the rifles and I stood about 40 yards away with no hearing protection. On the 11.5” there was a more discernible difference, it performed well but didn’t have that quiet low tone thump of the Rhodie. On the 16” they were VERY close, leading me to believe the Havic scales better. There was a slight tone difference but they were almost identical in volume.
Back pressure: Slightly more than the Rhodie, for comparisons sake I would say it’s somewhere between the Infinity solid and vented 5.56 end caps.
Accuracy and POI shift: Here is where things got really interesting. There was practically zero POI shift between suppressed and unsuppressed. My groups tightened up SIGNIFICANTLY. In my experience most rifles tighten up when suppressed, but I have never noticed a big difference between suppressors. To confirm it wasn’t something weird going on with one rifle I tried it again on several hosts and the groups were all significantly smaller with the Havic than they were with that host and XYZ silencer. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? The can has an inverted baffle design I haven’t really seen in other suppressors. I know inverted baffles aren’t a new thing but they don’t seem to be that common. Anybody have any ideas on what could be causing this? I’m really curious to know why.
Suppressors: To paint or not?
Looking at painting my first rifle, it has a dedicated suppressor and I’m on the fence about painting it with the gun. I know it will change colors a bit when it gets hot but it seems like it would stand out less than a jet black can on the end of the gun. I would love to hear others thoughts and experiences.
GFR Trigger
I wanted to swap out the trigger on my GFR to an SD-E and noticed a significant difference in trigger geometry and in the disconnector/disconnector spring. Does anyone know if this will cause problems? I already did the swap and it seems to function fine, however I’ve not shot live ammo through it.
