Interstate Undergraduate Unis

I am a Queensland student living in mm2 (not eligible for the rural scheme though) but my school and residential address has been in mm2 for the past 3 ish years so Idk it might be of some help.I did apply for qtac equity scheme related to this so.Anyway my predicted atar is 98.65 and ucat was not as good( barely competitive, around 70th according to last years stats). My parents still want me to apply interstate even after I have told them with my horrible ucat it's not really going to make a difference but still I'll try to make them happy. What universities should I apply too. Any ones that weight the ucat lower? have more quotas for regional/rural kids( even though I barely qualify as one).

Also on UAC, for JMP it does not specify the campus like it does for qtac. So how do you specify which campus (say JMP) you want as your preference.

Zeeshan Ali-Still Underrated?

Was just listening to his Punjabi Tappay at barood khana haveli ( Yt vid) and then his rendition of Niyat-e-Shauq and man his voice and emotion he puts in is so good. I know he did a song with coke studio and I flicked to his older music and looks like he has been doing this for ages. Was I living under a rock or is he genuinely underrated?

He reminds me a bit of Sajjad Ali after he went back to classical.

Sewing Machine recs

Hi

I'm sick of never being able to find the type of clothing I actually like, so I've decided to start making my own tops instead. Apart from basic hand sewing, and covering up holes, I don't really know much about sewing.

I'm therefore looking for a durable, beginner-friendly sewing machine that isn't huge or overly complicated, but that I can also grow into as I get better at sewing. I mainly want to work with cotton, chiffon and jersey fabrics.

I've been looking on Spotlight, but there are so many machines that I have no idea what actually makes one good. What features/specifications should I be looking for, and are there any particular machines you'd recommend?

QTAC Preferencing-JCU

How important is the order of your preferences? I'm a non-rural applicant, although I've been living in a reginal QLD area for 4 years, and my predicted ATAR is 98.65.

I was also wondering if it's important to have both the Townsville and Cairns campuses listed as separate preferences. For example, if I only put Townsville as my second preference, could I still potentially receive an interview offer?

Confused

Hi everyone

I’m a Pakistani-born student who moved to Australia after completing my first board exams, and I will be finishing high school at the end of this year. I recently sat the UCAT for undergraduate medicine but unfortunately did not perform as well as I had hoped. I have the option of taking a gap year to resit the UCAT and apply to non-UCAT universities, but my parents are encouraging me to take a gap year and sit the MDCAT next year instead, with the aim of studying medicine in Pakistan and eventually completing the AMC pathway to return to Australia.

I am not completely opposed to studying medicine in Pakistan. In fact, there are quite a few advantages for me:

  • It would be significantly cheaper, and I would not graduate with a large debt.
  • The degree is generally five years rather than six.
  • I may be able to attempt the licensing exams, such as the USMLE, during medical school if I decide to pursue that pathway.
  • I would not need to work while studying.
  • I have grandparents in both Islamabad and Lahore, as well as family homes there, so I would have a strong support system and somewhere to live. This would also be reassuring for my parents, particularly because my father is concerned about my grandparents' wellbeing and who will be there to support them.
  • I speak, read and write the language and am familiar with Pakistani culture. I actually feel that I relate more naturally to people in Pakistan than to many overseas/foreign born Pakistanis.
  • From what I have heard from my parents about their university experiences, student life in Pakistan seems very social. In Australia, I feel that many university students work part-time, and if you do not drink or go clubbing, it can sometimes be difficult to socialise. I am interested in hearing whether this is actually an accurate impression of university life in Pakistan today.
  • I would still plan to tutor part-time to cover my personal expenses, but I would not need to work nearly as much as I might in Australia.

My main concern is the licensing pathway. I understand that returning to Australia after graduating from a Pakistani medical school would involve sitting the AMC examinations, and that this is a difficult, expensive and uncertain pathway, with pass rates and requirements potentially changing over time. However, I am hardworking and would be willing to put in the effort required.

My academic background is:

  • Year 9 Federal Board: 94% pre med/bio
  • Year 10 in Australia: 7 A+ s
  • Year 11: predicted ATAR of 96.8
  • Year 12: predicted ATAR of 98.65 based on my school's internal assessments and half-year results (I have not yet sat my final exams)
  • Subjects: Mathematical Methods, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Literature and Study of Religion

I would really appreciate insight from anyone familiar with medical education in Pakistan, particularly current students or recent graduates. My parents attended university a long time ago, so I understand that the system and admission process may have changed considerably since then.

I have also heard that, because I was born in Pakistan and spent part of my education there, I may be eligible for local seat especially if I give MDCAT( both NUMS and normal). I would strongly prefer a government medical college because I do not believe private medical colleges would be worth the cost for me.

I would especially like advice on:

  1. What my chances of admission to government medical colleges might be.
  2. How difficult the AMC pathway is in reality for graduates of Pakistani medical schools.
  3. Whether studying medicine in Pakistan is a sensible option if my long-term goal is ultimately to return to Australia.

My UCAT result was not strong enough for the Australian universities I was hoping for, although I believe I scored above the 60th percentile in each section. I am currently trying to decide whether I should take a gap year and try again for Australia or instead pursue medicine in Pakistan.I can do both next year as the UCAT happens in july and mdcat a couple of months after.I know it sounds too soon without MDCAT results and even my official year 12 results but I am anxious about the process and want to know and plan as much as I can.

Any insight from people who had overseas Pakistani friends or even themselves who currently doing med in Pakistan with plan of returning would be appreciable.

Keyboard Shortcuts not Working

Hi, as the title says, the keyboard shortcuts, mainly Alt + C and Alt + N, aren't working for me in the OQB mocks or subtests. They work perfectly fine in Medify and MedEntry, but not on OQB. I've tried two different keyboards at home, as well as a different computer and keyboard at my local library (where I'll be sitting my test), but they still don't work. I also tried pressing Alt + Ctrl before the keys, but that didn't make a difference. I'm a bit worried they won't work in the actual UCAT exam. Has anyone else had the same problem, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Since JCU does not look at the UCAT, What are the interview offers based on(I know the ATAR is important but are these not out till November and initial rounds occur before)? Is it the Prediction of academic achievment(PAA), if so are these just the internal assessments? Or the unofficial mocks each school takes .What else determines the likelihood of an applicant receiving an interview offer? What did you guys did that you think stood out?Any particular extra curriculars? If so can you give me any suggestions ?1 have already done 3 medical related work experience placements, another one with a uni,I do oratory at school and creative writing. (We do not talk about sports or music because I'm just not inclined in that way). Also did a STEM program.I live in an MM2 area in QLD but willl not make the rural scheme because I have not lived here for 5/10 years(adding this because I know JCU is big on improving rural/regional health).
