I got a job offer!

EDIT due to my ignorance about the area: the job is in Chesapeake. I assume Chesapeake and Virginia Beach are close enough to each other that you could live in one and work in the other? Tell me if I’m wrong please! I’m also not opposed to living in Suffolk or over West that way if the commute isn’t terrible.

Hi Everyone! I am from out of state and was just offered a job in VB (YAY!). It's time to look for housing! Job is in Chesapeake..

I'd like live below my means but still have some amenities that are important to me and I know that I may be being unrealistic.

I'd like to rent a studio or 1bd for $1100. It has to be pet friendly (I have a small senior dog) and I'd love for it to have washer/dryer in unit. Central air would be great but I'm willing to forgo that for a window unit.

I do wash everyday since I am very active and my clothes are often sweaty (sorry, TMI).

I walk a lot so I definitely need a somewhat safe neighborhood.

I found this place: https://www.rentcafe.com/apartments/va/virginia-beach/witchduck-crescent-apartments/default.aspx?preview=644710

Does anyone have thoughts/options on the complex and/or neighborhood? And does anyone know of anything that maybe I won't see on the usual sites?

I'd also love if any private landlords with a duplex or something similar could chime in! I have a solid work history and I'm coming down there to do the same thing I'm doing now. I always pay my rent on time. I do not party and live a very quiet, private and drama free life. I'm in bed early since I wake up for the gym in the morning.

I've never moved out of state and am super open to any suggestions that you're willing to give!

Crunch Fitness...

Hi everyone!

I'm kind of looking for the good, the bad and the ugly here...

I'm brand spanking new to the industry which means I have no idea how any of it works. I'm 36F and making a career pivot at this point makes my stomach turn - I'm so nervous.

I am applying to gyms and have an interview at a Crunch in a couple of weeks. I've done a quick phone call and a Google Meet with the Fitness Director at this location. The next round is in person and we'll have some normal interview conversation and then I'll take her through a workout on the floor.

I guess my main fears are income and benefits.

How long on average do you think it takes to actually start seeing some real income? Obviously it's different for every individual but is there an educated guess? Did anyone have to take on a second job until they built a book?

Again, I'm 36 and it's starting to show, ya know? I need health insurance and this place doesn't seem to offer it. What do you all do? Are there gyms that do offer insurance?

Has anyone worked at a Crunch? What was your experience?

Thank you in advance for any advice you're will to take the time to give!

Edit: Another question about schedule.. they have a split schedule where you train clients from say 7-11am and then 3-7pm. For anyone who’s worked something like that, what are your thoughts?

Chefs and Foodies!

I've never had a Tomahawk steak and it's something I've been wanting to check off the list - where do I go for the juiciest piece of red meat?!

What to do?!

Guys.. I’m in town until Monday and this weather has put a damper on my plans. Anything fun happening?!

Edit: I’m not too bothered by the rain and enjoy a challenge. Do we think it would suck to hike up to the Mill Mountain Star?

I know it's a pretty large area that I'm highlighting - feel free to comment on anywhere in there!

I'm looking at the Roanoke area to relocate to but also curious about this slightly more SW region of VA. I love the mountains and 'untouched' nature and it looks like this little corner has a good bit of that.

How isolated is it? What does diversity look like? How are job opportunities? (Specifically gyms - personal trainer) How bad do your winters get?
