Why is good furniture IMPOSSIBLE to find

Over time my partner and I have slowly built up a decent collection of furniture. But there’s a few things we’re still looking for, namely, simple three tier shelves for sweater storage and shoe racks. And I can’t find an affordable and well made option anywhere. I hate particle board and am trying to avoid that. I know you get what you pay for. We’re renters but hope to be homeowners in a few years so not ready to really invest in new expensive furniture.

The solution has been second hand — thrift and antiques, fb marketplace, buy nothing groups. But I went to four different thrifts today (goodwill, re-store and Salvation Army) and they had particle board shoe racks priced at $30 — $5 more than the same product is listed for in Amazon. Marketplace has folks selling damaged particle board furniture for way more than it’s worth. I couldn’t afford any of the solid wood furniture in Salvation Army - it was all priced out of budget.

I guess this is just a rant but if anyone else wants to vent about diminishing options and thrift prices getting nuts, join in lol.

Help with ocloset, I want it to look like a store

I love vintage and have a wardrobe that I love dearly. I want to feel like I’m in a curated store where everything is easy to find when I’m in my closet 😇❤️ I have a smaller closet than my old place and am trying to figure out a better storage solution. I moved recently and just can’t get this to work with the organizational products I already own. I have a budget (100$-150$ ish) to work with to make this space better. Would prefer to find secondhand shelves or drawers as I hate particle board stuff but don’t mind buying new for storing shoes. I have a set of drawers that is half mine, half my partners — it’s where I store band tees, underwear, workout clothes, and denim shorts

Pain points:
- top rod only can hold so much weight and it’s at capacity
- I’d like a better way to display jeans. Maybe stacked on shelves? If they’re in a drawer I forget what I own 🤪
- shoes in lower right corner are obviously an issue.
- knitwear needs to be folded but my hanging rack is not the right size with the lower rod
- can’t figure out good storage for my purse / leather tote collection

Advice on technical piece of mend

Hi all!

I (30F) mended these climbing pants I thrifted — the whole seat was ripped. I machine mended a flat felled seam with polyester thread.

I’m very happy with the look outside, and they’ve been machine washed and dried, and no threads came loose. First pic is outside, next pic is inside.

I have OCD (like clinically, not just saying that lol) and I noticed I missed a bit of the flat felled seam during the mend. It must have scootched out of place while sewing.

Should I redo, or leave as is? Is there a substantial technical reason to redo, or is this more of a cosmetic miss on the interior? Am I overthinking this? 🤪

While these are for climbing they’re super cool pants and I’ll be wearing them for exercise as well as stylistically.

Progress is continuing!

It’s been three months and I’m down ten pounds :’)

SW was 200, GW is 150. I gained about 50lb during covid, ending up 200lb in 2022. I was able to go from 200 to 180 from 2023-2024, but had been stuck around 180 for literally two years. I’m so proud of finally getting to see progress. I tried everything else but CICO has been what’s worked for this final push.

I was able to put on an old favorite pair of jeans this morning that hadn’t fit in a long time :)

Fave jeans done!

I finished mending my favorite jeans this weekend, and it’s one of the first mends I’m feeling proud of. It’s a mix of machine darning and hand sewn patches, all different shades of blue.

Feedback on denim mend :)

Hi all! I would love some advice on a mend I’m working on. It’s my favorite pair of Levi’s 501s. They fit PERFECT but the denim on the thighs is so soft it’s about to disintegrate. I’m wanting to reinforce the knees and thighs before they start ripping.

I’m not feeling super happy with my results — the patch came out put good on one side (the smaller rectangle) but the bigger more square shaped knee patch looks saggy both laid flat and on the body to me.

While I love to look at and make colorful visible mends, my wardrobe is more muted — so I usually opt for thread matching and more blended visible mends. I do like contrast patching and texture work though :) I usually like to blend hand stitching and machine darning.

Let me know what you think and what advice you have! Totally possible I’m just being a perfectionist.

First pic is jeans, followed by two close ups of each knees mend. Last pic is the materials I’m considering incorporating.
