Is there any way to restore this?

Is there any way to restore this?

I want to say the material is… flaky? I bought these yesterday on clearance (I guess I can see why). I was just wondering if there is any inexpensive technique or something that isn’t a huge time investment to restore it to how it’s supposed to look/feel.

Ripped 100% Stiped Silk Shirt

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to invisibly mend 100% silk striped fabric? It’s a right angle tear with some snagging.

Mending trouser seat

Hello, I’m hoping you can help me. I have a tiny amount of skill to fix woven fabrics. I’ve done a few visible mending patches on jumpers. But I would prefer this not to be visible.

This fabric is very delicate though I believe it is also woven. It is 80/20 viscose/ polyamide.

These trousers are in decent shape otherwise, and it looks like a snag or ladder rather than wear. This is the left bum cheek area, not inside the thigh or where it rubs a lot on thighs.

I’m hoping salvageable!

Fix SpongeBob

Hi, I found this SpongeBob messenger bag in a yard sale and damaged the images when washing. The face got little parts of the vinyl (assuming) unstuck/peeling and some missing bits on the mouth, cheek, and an eye. The side of the bag had the logo almost completely disappear. It'd be cool to repair the logo but I'm more concerned about keeping his face intact.

How would you approach this? Iron it back down? Puffy paint? Paint markers? Embroidery? Something else? The bag says it is 55% ramie and 45% polyester. I'd mostly like it to look okay permanently, not necessarily reverse the damage, if that makes sense.

Need A Second Opinion: how bad is this?

I took a dress to a local tailor and they said they could help with the two holes I have. I don't love the job they did, but need a second opinion to see if I'm being too critical. (I took a number of items to them and they all have one thing or another wrong with them after the job she's been done. Idk if I'm being harsh and looking for more wrong or if this is truly not a good job.)

EDIT: thank you to those who have already weighed in! I'm glad I'm not crazy in thinking this was poorly done. I planned on going back and getting a refund but this has definitely been validating and makes me feel less guilty for asking them to correct it. I left a voicemail for the tailor, who came back with another voicemail stating she would fully refund AND redo the work herself (I went to her because I thought she was doing all the work, not someone else. Silly me. Live and learn!)

Best way to repair leather jacket?

I own a leather jacket, but unfortunately it caught on something which ripped a pair of holes through the leather. The largest hole of the two is 11-12cm and relatively straight, and the other hole is approx. 5cm in length. My main priority for the repair is the durability of the jacket, I don't mind if the repair is visible. What would be the best way to repair this jacket?

Additionally, any advice on which companies for repair materials are most reputable would be appreciated. I live in the EU, so I would prefer any EU-based companies.

Not exciting, but a win for me

This really is just an appreciation post for the mending subs and way of life! My entire adult life I just threw things away and replaced things! I never worried about repair because I was always buying new stuff anyway! Now that I’m older, and trying to be a conscious consumer - I try to be more careful about what I bring in and more thoughtful about what I just throw away. I have these rainbow earrings I got years ago and really only wear them MAYBE once a year. I noticed a stone fell out and I considered throwing it away, since that’s the automatic option. Instead I came here and someone suggested nail polish - I didn’t have the perfect color but it’s better than it was! And no one will ever notice. Anyway, even though it’s small and meaningless - to me it is revolutionary! You all and the anti consumption crowd have helped me so much!!

Looking for help - mending a thin (crêpe?) fabric dress

Hi! I have this awesome summer dress - it's a very light, delicate 100% viscose fabric. There's a small hole on the back, mostly in the blue stripe. I'm not sure how to mend this in the most invisible way, since the fabric is super light. Could I use normal thread, should I use something else? I can't really put any backing, so how do I get this stable? Thanks!!

Is there a way to repair this horizontal tear in the seat of these moleskin trousers ?

I bought these German moleskin army surplus combats and the first time I squated down in them the seat split horizontally. I've sewed it shit once or twice but I really don't know what I'm doing so it always reopens.

is there anything I can do to repair them, or are they finished?

What stitch would I use to fix this?

Some of the stitches in this pocket fell out and I want to fix it. I want to emulate the two lines of sewing. What stitch do I use?

Is it possible to remove the white discouloring on this rain cape?

I really want one of those old british military rain capes but the only one I found has these white spots all over it.

I would like to know if there is any chances of fixing them before buying it. Thanks in advance.

Edit: the material seems to be "two layers of cotton fabric bonded together with a vulcanized rubber compound layer". Hope that helps

Original Content Only! Reposters will be banned*

Hi friends,
You are amazing and wonderful, inspiring me daily to work on my never ending mending pile. Thank you for being part of this sweet community, I am grateful for you and your efforts to keep your mending as invisible as possible!

Unfortunately I’ve been seeing an uptick in karma farming bot posts lately. I hate bots almost as much as I hate ticks! So I have to enforce a new rule. Any account that posts someone else’s work (*without linking to the original post) will be removed and the account banned. I don’t want to waste any more energy on low effort karma farming. Thank you to people who flag these posts, it helps me remove them quickly while I chase my toddler around.

You are still welcome to share a mend that you didn’t do, so long as the original post (or link outside Reddit) is very prominent in your post. I love seeing inspiration and tutorials, please keep sharing those, but the original creator MUST be given credit.

So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so creative and sharing your hard work. Together we can fix all the things!

Chlorine stain on vintage shorts

My most perfect pair of shorts I found on Poshmark that fit me perfectly. A brand from the 80s-90s. While adding chlorine to the pool I somehow got it on my butt, idk how it happened. I’m considering dying the spots very carefully because I’d like to invisibly fix this, but I also welcome any suggestions that don’t bring so much attention to my backside 🤦‍♀️
I’m also considering having a pair made to these exact dimensions because they are such a perfect pair of shorts. 😭 I am so devastated
