Question for Amazon publishers

As a blogger and 'famous in my own mind,' here is a question for you, experienced in the Amazon affiliate program.

If you advertise an Amazon product on your site and, hopefully, generate some income, and then you find out the product is now gone and the link is dead. Without a lot of maintenance and checking each site and link to make sure they are still active, how do you find that worth the effort with the small amount of money you make?

*** When advertising a product, I would think that you want to send customers to a product link that never changes.

What am I missing?

Are you a Leader or a Follower?

Normally, this community is about people asking questions from the older generation; however, I will offer you a thought to ponder.

*** Reading an interesting article about the Lemming Effect and the parallel of being a follower. The title intrigued me to the point that I had to research the subject.

What is the Lemming effect? "It's Someone Who Blindly Follows A Crowd."

But having said that, that's not where the original term comes. Britannica wanted to clarify this silly mythical belief, and their story goes this way.

Every few years, herds of lemmings (mouse-like rodents) commit mass suicide when their population becomes unsustainably large by jumping off a seaside cliff. But here is the Myth, "Lemmings, do not commit suicide," but it did bring in the term "Lemming Affect."

So why is there a myth of mass suicide among lemming rodents and the parallel between today's society?

*** Web psychology says this refers to a phenomenon where crowds of people across various fields of life exhibit a certain kind of behaviour, for no reason other than a majority of their peers following each other. ***

Many psychologists argue that by nature, human beings are conditioned to follow a larger group, instead of undertaking the risk of independent thought and action.

"In other words, you are who you hang around with."

Why did I find this story interesting?

As I look at all these people, I have to wonder, "Do you or they consider being a 'leader or a follower?"

I’m just asking a silly (food for thought) question!

The Iconic Sound of Steve McQueen's Bullitt Mustang

The cool sound of the Mustang from the movie Bullitt is often described as raw, mechanical, and aggressive. It's that throaty rumble sound that only car guys can appreciate. Do you agree?? by Flippen Canadian

Shrunken Head On the Mantelpiece, Ain't Happening.

Collecting Oddities and Curiosities items is not everyone's forte; however, there are many buyers and collectors out there who do like the unusual. "Anything."

A few years back, there was a dealer in Toronto who specialized in buying, selling and collecting rare and unusual, and, not necessarily in that order. He was so popular that he had his own weekly TV program on Oddities and the Curiosities. On his show, he would talk to buyers or sellers from Saudi Arabia, England, and yes, there are many kinky people in the US, who like this sort of thing.

In his last episode before he mysteriously passed away, he purchased a Mummy, "and not confused with mommy." On one phone line, he was buying, and on the other, he was selling. Two phones are going at the same time. That, my friends, has the makings of a good salesperson.

So in the end, there are many collectors out there looking to purchase Oddities, Curiosities and or the downright unusual, "anything."

There is such a following that you would have no trouble finding Oddities and Curiosities Expos across North America.

Call me a Canadian wussy, but my wife will never allow me to have a shrunken head sitting on the mantelpiece staring at us. Ain't happening.

Ford Thunderbird With a Factory-Installed "Birdnest" Rumble Seat

Among car enthusiasts, there was a rumour circulated that in 1957, Ford Thunderbird featured a factory-installed rumble seat. Now, like any good barn-find story, this information was intriguing enough to prompt a little research.

James Bond Corvorado Cadillac Pimpmobile

James Bond Corvorado Cadillac Pimpmobile. Corvette-Eldorado

Many years ago, I received a call from a car salesman (friend) from the Orillia area. He was old school, so you knew he would buy and flip almost anything. In essence, you never know what interesting things he has for sale.

That afternoon, 'I never even had a chance to say hello,' and he excitedly said, "Dave, you ought to have this car."

Now he wouldn't tell me what it was. Essentially, it could have been a car, a boat or a piece of heavy equipment for sale. However, I didn't have any money to spend, so in reality, it made no difference what it was, 'but I really had to see what I was missing.'

As I pulled into his yard, I saw this odd-looking .... Cadillac...I think it was. However, something was different and odd about this car.

Now to this day, I'm not totally convinced he knew what he had in his possession. After doing a fast visual, it looked like it was stored in a barn with a ripped vinyl roof and generally in poor-looking condition.

He proceeded to say that this unique barn find car was featured in a famous James Bond movie. A half-Cadillac, half-Corvette car that was debuted in the 007 'Live and Let Die,' starring Roger Moore.

Now I've seen that movie many times, and I've never seen this weird-looking 'car.' However, as the story goes, yes, I did --- but this is why the car was not memorable.

The story goes that the producers of the movie purchased a brand new Cadillac Eldorado right off the GM assembly line, and a used Corvette for the custom job they had in mind for the movie. Dunham Coach Works cut and pasted the two parts together and came up with this interesting Pimpmobile, 'it was called.'

*** The featured photo is not mine; however, this car shown is quite similar.

The kicker is ... The Pimpmobile had only had a 5-minute debut in the film.

This is one of those true stories where I should have, could have, but I didn't buy that car, "BUT should have."

One more bit of interest. Research showed that a collector was searching for all the James Bond cars used in the films and could account for all of them, except one --- the one I looked at.'

When I broke the news to my pal Bob, I could not afford this unique one-of-a-kind James Bond car. He made one phone call and was sold over the phone to a dealer in Toronto. Signed on the dash, "Roger Moore" himself.

Did You Know: never copy and paste

Friendly Tip:

As a blogger, I do my draft article in MS Word, I format it in such a way that even Margaret Atwood would be proud. As I "copied and pasted" my draft into my site editor, that's where strange things started happening to my website. The text shrank, and the overall appearance seemed to have changed. Something just went wrong.

Researched my dilemma, "that I did not totally cure" was an interesting fact that appeared.

Did you know that when you copy and paste from MS Word into your blog page (site editor) you take all the formatting with it.

Information that came down the pipe on my problem was, "NEVER copy and paste. Always COPY and use CTRL V to paste it into another document.

The formatting (in my case,) is what created the problem on my website. If you just use "Control V" ... it just copies the text.

Copy and paste, apparently, transfers all the formatting from your MS Word draft, which sometimes conflicts with your website theme.

>> Which it did with mine. <<

Most people might be aware of this; however, I did not know.

Alberta Separatist Must Read This.

There is a parallel between Canada's Avro Arrow and Alberta's politicians being wined and dined by the US.

Intrigued by Canada's Avro Arrow story, I did some behind-the-scenes research. "Mainstream information seems to be the same old, and personally, old news by many." But here is something interesting that could have been a rumour back in the day.

But given 70 years of looking back, there is a disturbing Canada and a US trend surfacing, and it goes this way.

John F. Kennedy was a well like politicians on both sides of the border, but make no bones about it, in his speech, he said that "the US has to be first and best at everything." That is recommendable if you are American. However, that thinking is bred into all US citizens since the beginning of their existence.

And again, looking from their point of view, good for them. But that somewhat set the stage for today's events.

During that time with the Cold War looming, the state-of-the-art Avro Arrow came to be in the 50s. That plane showed a lot of promise for many reasons, 'but the kicker is, it was not American-made.'

We all assume NORAD was set up as an early warning system for the Americans and not necessarily for Canada's better welfare, but they did convince the Canadian higher-up that it was set up for all of our interests. Maybe yes and maybe no.

But the Avro airplane was conceived with that very idea in mind. The Avro Arrow was born with futuristic components and flew faster and higher than any known plane in the sky, "short of the secret Black Bird spy plane."

However, little old Canada building a state-of-the-art interceptor did not sit well with the Americans. So behind the scenes, "somewhat like the Alberta separatism episode today."

The Canadian military was wined and dined and convinced these military elites that dumping the Arrow would be a smarter Idea. If you cancel the project, we will pay for the Bowmark missiles in place of that outdated (new) plane. We will maintain the equipment and man it at no cost to Canadians.

The Americans did everything to sweeten the pot.

Dump the Avro Arrow, and we will militarily take good care of you, "good buddy Canadian with a wink." So much convincing on their part that the military men did convince Canada's leaders that the Americans would not endorse the Avro, and in turn, future sales of the plane looked gloomy.

*** We recommend that Mr Prime Minister to dismantle the overpriced Avro Arrow project and side with the Americans.

The US must have done a good job convincing the Canadian military elites that this plane should never fly under Canadian ownership and that there are better alternatives. Shortly after, the Avro Arrow Interceptor was cancelled.

It's worthy to note the Americans, knowing the Avro is out of the way, did not cancel any of their aerospace projects; they just wanted Canada's Avro Arrow gone.

If you asked a question online, "What was the fastest plane in the 50s," the Canadian-built Avro Arrow is never mentioned.

Here is the Parallel That The Alberta Separatist Must Read

In the end, we were deceived. Our friends and allies, the Americans, deceived Canadians way back then. Almost like in my opinion, with the Alberta separating from Canada episode.

In my opinion, the United States invented foreign interference. So, to all you Albertons, BEWARE of any offers you can't refuse, but really should.

"Grass is only greener over a septic bed."

The point of this article is not about the Avro Arrow, It's about the trickery, the wining and dining, blowing smoke where it does not belong by the Americans, "who, by the way, are quite good at it."

>Climbing into bed with a wolf in sheep's clothing (and taking photos for future undertaking) has been a hallmark of Americans' strategy for a very long time. Do not fall victim to the smoke screen. Separating from Canada is a worrisome move.

If this sounds like it's directed at Alberta, then I'm (doing a good job) writing my concern.

Signed by a guy from Ontario.

**** Please, feel free to give me your opinion and, of course, punch holes in my thinking if you like. ****

Barn Finds Are Not Necessarily Found In Barns

For many years, I was an emergency road mechanic. The point being, it took me too many places, such as farmers fixen their tractors, to heavy equipment in some bush in northern Ontario.

You get to see a lot of abandoned vehicles in your travels, 'where you would not expect to see them.'

After the war, there was an abundant supply of military equipment for sale. Farmers and loggers would buy anything with tracks, and when they stopped working, "in many cases," they were abandoned right where they died. The Legion in Huntsville, Ontario, displays a Bren gun carrier that was dragged out of the bush and restored by volunteers. It was originally abandoned. Read more stories at this link 🔗

Barn find "sending his son to college."

I read an interesting article about a car collector sending a family member to college. Knowing his dad is a car enthusiast, he gets a phone call from his son saying that he was talking to another student, and he knows where there is an unusual-looking, possibly a “concept car,” I think maybe a Buick ... maybe, the car has been sitting for a while.” I THINK!

Like me, this father will beat the bushes, follow up on all roomers, lies and stories.

But he says to his son, “Just In Case,” do some investigating, and don’t forget to send lots of photos, which he did.

It turned out he purchased this, a one-of-a-kind Buick four-door concept car of the 60s. All through a casual yak at school. In the end, he was the proud owner of this unique car that people thought was lost through time.

The conclusion to that story is: you never know where you will find your next barn find. There are many collectors out there with sore necks looking for their next overhaulen project." Just like me.

The best places to find your treasures are word of mouth, be observant, ask around and follow up on all rummers and lies.”

""" Oh yeah, the old guy says, I know where there is one of them sitting. """ It could be just that easy.

"I can say old guy because I am old."
