As an engineer I like to know how stuff works, so the pens intrigued me.
So I’ve taken 5 apart to see, and they are quite clever!
What is clear is they cannot and do not ‘count clicks’.

Pic 1 is all the parts. As suspected there is a glass vial inside the main barrel of the pen.

Pics 2 and 3 are like a double slip clutch mechanism and this is how the pen stops turning when the maximum deflection or travel of the plunger is reached.
The 2 black bits are the same, even though the one inside the dose twister looks different in the picture.
They slot together when this mechanism is all together as in pic 6.

If you look at pic 4 you can see the threaded plunger rod and the squared off bit at the end. This same squared off bit is also present at the other end of the rod.
When you turn the dose twister the 2 black slip clutches engage with each other in the white plastic part inside the main body of the pen handle and turn around the plunger rod which is held firm by a locking system in the main body of the pen that I haven’t got to yet. The black half of the clutch part in the twister turns as you twist

When you the press the purple nob as you inject, the top part of the clutch locks so it doesn’t turn, this then locks the lower part which presses the rod down into the pen.

In pic 4 you can see the threaded plunger rod with the squared off ends. As you use the pen, once you twist it up to the squared bit it can’t move any further unless forced.
This is what locks the pen.

You can see in pic 5 what happens when you force it past the lock. A bit breaks off.
This means we were able to advance the twister further up the rod and get the extra travel on the plunger required to get the extra dose. But this was in no way measured or accurate. Just that the difference wasn’t really an issue.

The new pens are exactly the same with the simple addition of the spacer as seen in pic 7. You can just see that this spacer is 1 dose in size, thereby extending the effective travel of the plunger and eliminating the extra dose.

And that’s it. Very simple yet clever and accurate. Got hold of a Lilly insulin pen and took that apart as well and they are the same with the only difference being the plunger rod is black and longer so it goes all the way to the end of the vial.

Back from hols….. :-/

Just back from a week away travelling around Norfolk and South Wales (Random I know….)
Weighed myself this morning first morning back.
Scales says I put on 1Kg.

I know it can’t be fat, I continued to track my intake (MyNetDiary) and was in deficit most days. I know it must be some gained water weight and maybe some inflammation from travel etc. For it to be fat I would have had to consume 7,700 calories over maintenance and that simply didn’t happen even allowing for the odd miss log or under calculation.

But it’s just a bit cr@p…..

Oh well, at least I might see a big drop this week back in the routine eh?

Tired of shopping around for every order? Got a DDS or BlueLight? Then read on…..

Are you tired of shopping round every month filling in questionnaire after questionnaire?
Wish you could just find a really good supplier with prices among the lowest every single order? Give these a go and maybe stay.

Oxford Online Pharmacy.

https://www.oxfordonlinepharmacy.co.uk

£25 account credit AFTER your first successful order over £50 site wide with my friend code. (I also get 25 credit to use)

They offer a lowest price guarantee, if the same treatment (Retail Price) is cheaper elsewhere they will refund the difference.

If you have a Defence Discount or Blue Light Card they run offers EVERY single month, usually 20% off.
They also run offers on some other Workplace/Banking/Insurance discount schemes, so do check any you have.

When you consider postage etc my calculation suggest this makes them easily the cheapest repeat order supplier on Monj outside one-off first time deals; and even then they are within a tenner or so!

Example. The Numan 100 off makes 12.5mg £236, and the pharmacy2U 75 quid off is £220 including postage. I just paid £235 Guaranteed next day tracked with my on-going DDS Discount.

I have had a fantastic experience so far, they are clinician lead and all treatment is monitored by GMC Doctors. A family business since 1925 their communication is excellent on email and phone and they are quick to help and guide you through any issues.

Sign up is straight forward and inline with current requirements, and they are one of the few pharmacies to have fully passed the new CQC standards for online and digital care.

Deliveries are prompt, tracked, and packed in wool fibre and frozen gel packs.
Unless you order extras you get 6 needles and 6 swabs in the pack.

I am NOT in anyway affiliated with this company, but I have tried many suppliers on my journey and do like to spread the word about good ones when I find them. Doubt I will be moving anytime soon unless there is an absolutely ridiculous offer somewhere saving me 20/30 quid plus on Oxfords pricing. I value service as much as cost for things related to my health.

Please paste my code in the ‘Friend Referral’ box if you decide to give them a go, then we both get the credit to our accounts. Code: 85D50DA42192
Ta.

ETA.
I just had it confirmed from the pharmacy that you CAN use referral credit WITH discount codes.
So get this credit with me and apply a discount code on your next order and Oxford Online are far and away the cheapest currently available for that pen. The 20% plus 25 credit would make a 12.5mg pen 200 quid!
You can then get some friend referrals to use for future orders. :-)

Does anyone else miss ‘MatchBook’?

It was short lived, but I miss Amazons MatchBook :-(
Would love someone to reinvent this idea.
I love, and will never stop buying lovely books and collecting them on my shelves. But it would be nice to buy the book and get the E book with it for ease of travel and convenience.
I would certainly read even more, and would probably buy hardbacks at release rather than waiting for the paperbacks.

Thoughts?

OT…
And did anyone get the music equivalent? Shania Twain was known for this. She would release an album and if you bought it you got a link code to download (Usually at least 2) different versions.
The Blue (Indian) version of Up! Is better than the main one IMO.

NSV. I never thought I would see the day…..

Never thought I would see the day ever again in my lifetime!

Was a 44 at one point in my life.
I know it’s vanity sizing. I measured them and they are actually 38. But even so!….
😬

Asda pick-ups. Anyone read?

Grabbed these, 2 for a tenner.
Anyone read?
Picked them up solely on the back cover synopsis.
As Waterstones yielded sparse rewards today, grabbed these on way home when I popped into Asda for something for tea. Haha!

Also saw Wrath of Dragons, but it appears to be book 2 of something?

u/EdTheDuck94 — 18 days ago

Off to my happy place :-)

The Waterstones in Orchard Square Sheffield is one with a coffee shop.
Nowt better than spending an afternoon browsing around then taking a pile of books to the coffee shop and spending an hour or 2 drinking a nice drink and reading the first chapters deciding what to buy. (Usually all of them LOL)

Anyone else? Tips for stuff to pick up today?

Just add before the flaming.
I NEVER spoil a book in any way, including the spine while doing this. Just in case. And if it ever did happen, I would buy it regardless.

Anyone use their own pens?

Just wondered if to get a reusable insulin pen and just swap the glass vial over.
Anyone done this?

Actually extremely common among insulin users who have Lilly insulin, or any other TBF.
Makes dose control and accuracy very easy and the pen doesn’t stop working.

Thoughts?

Mounjaro Pen Fidget Spinner 😂

Hi.
Anyone else like to play with empty pens?
I write the start stop dates and weights on the caps so I keep them all as reminders of my journey for when I feel sh\*t or stall a bit. Well, except my first 2.5 pen which I dismantled and binned once I figured out how they work, something I regret now as I haven’t got a full set of pens :-(

I force it round after the last dose and use it like a fidget spinner.
Dial it up and press it down just like injecting.
It’s ASMR I guess for those of us receptive to it.

Just me?
😂

Stalled a bit :-/

Hi all.
55 M. Been on Mounjaro a while and down from 110Kg to 89, goal is 80. Seem to have stalled a bit. I maintain good suppression and little food noise by split dosing and am currently taking 2.75 every 3.5 days (Friday night/Tuesday morning). This works well for me as when I titrated from 2.5 straight to 5 it knocked me for 6. Did lots of research on here and YouTube (Fat Old Climber, Dr Kevin J )etc and tried split dosing. This has really worked for me and I think also kept my dose lower than it maybe would have as my level is constant and steady. I buy 10mg pens and am building a stock. Although I will be slowing down a bit before I get too many to use before expiry!
(I also make Eli Lilly pay for some on my medication. I have invested a small amount in shares in my ISA and get dividends :-)
It might only be 15 quid a YEAR, but it makes me feel better after they jacked everyone for no reason what so ever…… ;-) )
I track my eating and macros with MyNetDiary and am careful with eating. I train a couple of times a week.
Anyone else stalled close to goal? What did you do? I don’t feel a higher dose is required as I have good suppression and no noise, but would try if required.
I am interested in this thinking about our bodies reaching some kind of stasis. Anyone experience this?

And finally, maybe a strange one. Does anyone else get a bit of ASMR with this? I like the pens, I like how they look, I like how they feel and click, and I like injecting! Weird eh?

Edited to comply with the help of the Mods.

When I have struggled in the past I have looked at my stats on My Dose Diary, looked at my pictures, but also looked at my pens to keep me on track. Also get a bit of ASMR playing with them TBH….
I have them all apart from my very first 2.5, which I took apart to see how it worked and then binned :-(
Does anyone have an EMPTY 2.5 they would be willing to part with? I bought a peptide pen off Amazon, but it’s not the same.
Thank all.
