Should I go to this wedding?

I got invited to a wedding of a coworker who I became friends with over the years. We only see each other 1-2 times a year now and are no longer close but he has been a good friend in the past. I would be required to fly, book a hotel, and rent a car which would cost around $600 for one night. It’s not in a terribly exciting area so I don’t plan on making a whole trip out of it. I don’t know anyone at this wedding except for the groom and also did not receive a plus one. Should I go or decline the invitation?

TL;DR: Should I travel to a wedding where I don’t know anyone except for the groom?

Finding my worth again

A few months ago a guy I was seeing ended things with me abruptly. He said he didn’t have the capacity for a relationship.

While we were together he compared me to his ex, made little remarks to boost his ego while putting me down, and unloaded a lot of trauma. I always listened when he brought up his insecurities multiple times. He never made plans and only asked to spend time together last minute when he was free and I never felt considered. I know I am not owed anything back but I feel a little bit used.

I suspected he was talking to someone new relatively soon after we ended things, and this weekend I found out he went on a trip with her. I know things wouldn’t have worked out long term but it stings knowing that he was able to move on that quickly and seemingly have the capacity to do things with her that he didn’t with me.

I’ve always had a sense of self worth, but ever since we ended things I feel like I’ve been nitpicking myself and needing to prove I’m fine to him on social media. I just feel unchosen and unvalued. How do I start feeling like myself again and stop chasing the need to feel validated by him?

Lingering Resentment

I was blindsided with a breakup with an avoidant a few months ago. Looking back he always compared me to his ex, needed a lot of external validation, and emotionally dumped on me. He clearly has a lot of work to do to heal from his trauma from his ex and I feel like collateral damage.

I do not want him back at all, but part of me still resents him. He was moving to my city and once he got here, I was dropped. I feel like I provided a lot of emotional support during his job hunt and seeing him live his new life seemingly without any reflection or remorse almost angers me.

I want to reach out to see if he would acknowledge any of that but at the same time every “serious” conversation we had I was reading in between the lines and it felt like pulling teeth to get a straight forward answer.

How do I let go of the resentment? Would a conversation with him help? I don’t care about the outcome of it either way (I’m firm on not taking him back), it would just be nice to have my feelings validated.
