Just one giant brain cell, all other parts missing
Feline non-recognition aggression (FNRA)
My brother sister pair went to the vet for checkups yesterday and were the hit of the day. They did great in the car and hammed it up for the techs and doc and even made the social media page.
It was when we got home… I let my girl and her brother out of their carriers, gave them a Churu for being such good babies and went about my morning not seeing the subtle clues that she was having some issues.
In about 30 minutes she went from totally fine to suddenly not recognizing her brother — something called feline non-recognition aggression (FNRA).
Previously she had some hissies when her brother came home from a 4 day hospitalization after a urinary obstruction, but they were separated for that time and he was sick — both triggers for FNRA.
However yesterday they were never apart, but somehow the scents from home mixing with the scent of him at the vet triggered it… BAD.
I had to separate them for the majority of the day. By late evening the separation and attempts to reintroduce his scents were largely successful, she was back to sharing my lap, eating meals next to him, playing in the same room, but she was still growling if he approached her in a way that she was cornered.
Ultimately I separated them for the night since I wouldn’t be able to monitor or prevent those kinds of interactions, and another incident like yesterday I feared would have undone all the progress we made.
They did great overnight, and things seem to be back to normal. I’m still monitoring them when they’re up and moving around the house, but there have been a few times today that would have set her off yesterday that went by without problems, so I’m hopeful we’re done with the worst.
Going to have to go through some different steps next time anyone goes to the vet, including being sequestered to a smaller space to lose the weird smells before coming out to the big house.
Sharing this so that maybe it helps someone who is learning about FNRA for the first time.
Yelling, dizziness and blood pressure
I will be asking my doc about this in a couple weeks at my physical, I am just curious if others have had a similar experience.
I had minor orthostatic hypotension prior to starting tirz in December (getting lightheaded and dizzy when standing), but I would classify that as moderate now. I often have to wait before moving and/or brace myself on things if I stand too fast.
HOWEVER, recently I have found that yelling has produced an almost fainting reaction twice now — once last month at a soccer game I went to where I was cheering after a goal and again today when I was calling names for attendance during a field trip.
Am I alone in this random side effect?
Miss Rainbow with her rainbow 🥰
The YEOWWW catnip toys are very popular in this house so when they came out with the rainbow one, it was a no-brainer! 🌈
Tuckered out from our nightly play session, she has taken to grabbing her rainbow and plopping down when she’s done for the evening.
