Development Director late because partner had to come

This is moreso a vent/seeking advice.

Me: assistant director for a regional event that raises $2M.
New director: lives 45 minutes away, also not really new (boomerang from the early/mid 2000s)

Hosted a happy hour/meet and greet with some of our fundraisers that live locally to me - director lives 45 minutes away. This is partially being hosted so she can meet her new portfolio of top fundraisers and corporate partners. I get a note day-of that she’ll be an hour late because she wanted to bring her boyfriend and he couldn’t leave til later. Me not wanting to rock the boat didn’t outright say no (nor did I think it was my place) but instead made sure to note the timing - like hey some of our folks won’t be there that long, this is only an hour and a half scheduled so that’ll be a long drive for 30 minutes, etc.

Of course, people left. A few were a little annoyed that she wasn’t there - I noted rush hour traffic to cover her. But her boyfriend didn’t talk to anyone, just followed her around - he’s not connected to the mission, he’s not a fundraiser himself. And yes she can drive, yes she can drive at night.

Am I crazy to be a little annoyed that I had to run this solo (we always run these with two - this was around 30 people in attendance) and that she wasn’t this late just to bring him? It’s a happy hour but it’s still work - and this was her time to be introduced to and steward her portfolio. She’s already dropped a light ask to change up the normal schedule for these so he can come with her again.

Another banger from The Fresh Market - bakery bag (NC)

No misses here! Great variety and I’m hosting brunch for a small group of friends tomorrow so the Kringle and raspberry danishes will be perfect.

I also love the staff at my local store. This was the first time my cashier had gotten a bag for someone and was so tickled for me to see my bag. It kinda makes it more fun when other people are excited for you and have that whimsy of a surprise

$10 bag ($30 value)

Ithaca Hummus - consider me influenced

Went in with a very focused list of 5 things… we all know how that goes. Walked out spending $150 🫠

I haven’t been in about a month, but the Ithaca brand hummus is new for me. One of the sample queens was sharing this jalopeno lime variety, and as soon as this touched my tongue it was like when cats get locked in with the giant pupils.

This stuff is SO GOOD. So smooth, and the perfect spice level and the lime doesn’t read as lime, but more adds a brightness to it. Highly highly recommend.

Found Lorenzo’s doppelgänger

Had my music on artist radio and this gentleman popped up. Give Lorenzo slightly longer/lighter hair and come on!

Bonus points for the paired song title

I finally figured out what Samraj reminded me of

It’s the rectangular face, strong chin and smile - but when Samraj smiles with his teeth, he’s like a real life character from Wallace and Gromit universe

Attending my first cake picnic, help me decide!

After missing the dates for many of these, snagged a spot for a cake picnic. Now I gotta figure out what I’m making! My cakes are admittedly not the most beautiful but I do try to go for delicious flavors. If you were attending a cake picnic, which one are you going for first?

  1. dark chocolate cake, white chocolate cream, lemon curd, dark chocolate cookie crispies, dark chocolate fudge frosting w/ a touch of espresso

  2. vanilla cake with a graham cracker crumb base, key lime curd, stabilized whipped cream, graham crumble, Russian buttercream, lime zest

  3. dark chocolate cake, mixed berry compote, white chocolate cream, raspberry IMBC, raspberry cookie crispies

  4. lemon cake w/ sweet tea soak, peach compote, black tea buttercream, candied lemon peel

Blessed and highly favored by The Fresh Market (NC)

$47 value for the bakery bag with a WHOLE CHOCOLATE CAKE that’s not close to its sell by date.

Love the apple pie, will always take small bread slices, and haven’t tried the lava cake yet so excited for this one. Have friends coming over for dinner tomorrow night so dessert is totally settled

Edited to add item values:
Cake $27
Pie $8
Bread $6
Lava cake $6

Help figuring out layers - pistachio, raspberry, white chocolate

Hello! Making a special occasion cake and decided on flavor combination of pistachio, raspberry and white chocolate. NOW I gotta figure out the combination of layers and textures…

Has anyone made a white chocolate feuilletine or pistachio praline?

Vanilla cake with pistachio frosting, raspberry curd, white chocolate feuillitine?
Pistachio cake, raspberry mousse, white chocolate frosting?

Not a novice baker and down to do some fun things. I do know I’ll be making an IMBC because it’s simply heaven

Fresh Market has definitely entered the game

Shoutout to Pamela at the Fresh Market in Raleigh, NC for peeping in the bags and pulling some good ones!

$10 bakery and $10 produce bags.

Produce was great - not a single moldy strawberry and I already had a number of these things on my grocery list to pick up.

Value-wise and variety-wise, Fresh Market’s been an exciting addition to the TGTG options

An absolute beauty

Just had to share what, for me, was a gorgeous pizza. No blowouts, no sad bare saucy spots, good seasoning and a pretty even cut!

Stuffed crust, well done cook. Pepperoni, ham, pineapple, add provolone 🤌

Share those weird orders

Alright y’all, I know this post makes its rounds every now and then. But let’s hear those very specific, a little odd orders that just hit right.

Here’s mine:

First of all. I’ve been doing the salad pizza thing for years, glad it finally got its moment.

  1. Order a thin crust pizza, well done. Garlic parm base with bacon, tomato and add cheddar blend. And get a side of the new crust sauce (it’s basically creamy Italian dressing so it works here)

Mix the crust sauce with a little extra oregano and white wine vinegar until it’s more of a dressing consistency. Toss a little with some ripped up crispy greens and pile it on.

Also great because even cold or reheated the thin crust is perfect vessel here

[NC] [TH] Coverage for deck repairs/replacments

Hey all, HOA member finding themselves in a bit of a pickle (I.e. about to drive my head into a wall)

Townhome property (about 190 units). Some properties have decks, most don’t. It’s an old community so we have an idea of which decks were original builds vs. put in by homeowners. Historically the HOA has not covered deck repair/replacement, but the past couple years this has moved into a grey area. Our responsibility chart has inconsistencies with our covenants, we’re currently getting that worked out with our lawyer but since our language is so vague (HOA responsible for exterior surfaces) here’s the pickle: are decks considered external surfaces under HOA or not. Our lawyer has changed their stance to yes (which is a shift from previous years), but their paralegal who just worked on revisions with the responsibility chart said no. So even their team can’t get a firm stance. But ultimately he said it’s on us to make the decision.

Anyone in a similar community or have similar vague verbiage? Other board members won’t make a firm decision so I’m trying to gauge from other similar properties where that responsibility lies.

I’m of the mindset that decks are under homeowners - especially since 1) that’s been the understanding since the 1980s and 2) this is something that is only a benefit to a small number of homeowners not all (such as siding, concrete slabs, fencing that all units have).

Charity Ride freebies - what do we like?

Afternoon everyone!

New to the cycling subreddit and newer to cycling as well. Recently joined the team of a nonprofit that hosts national charity rides across the country. Over the past few months in tabling at races, rides and community events I've seen that some of our freebie pick up items are just not getting picked up. Obviously with budgeting, I want to be mindful of how we use those funds and not waste money - but we do want to have items that get picked up

As cyclists, if you're coming off a ride or attending an event, what are some of the cheap useful things you've kept or used from picking up at a table?

No one's touching the recovery drink mixes, but mini sunscreens are the popular choice.

Edit: Thank you so much for the responses! Let me clarify a little - this would be stuff to have if we were invited to a corporate partner’s office to market/encourage signups, or if we were to be invited to set up a vendor table at another ride. I’m all about saving donor dollars and absolutely appreciate that mindset. Since we do have a small marketing budget I want to make sure we buy stuff people will pick up and use so it’s not a waste of money!
