What's your unpopular opinion about love or friendship?

Mine is there's no such thing as unconditional love between adults. You can love someone for their whole self with your whole heart, but strings are always attached to that love - don't steal from me, don't lie to me, don't cheat on me, don't take advantage of me, don't betray me.

Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato Soup

My husband is generally anti-soup so I only get one shot to make something good to introduce one to him, but he liked this one so much he made me write it down to make again. PS this is not the most healthy version, but it is incredibly flavorful.

Ingredients:

  • 2 28oz cans San Marzano Whole Tomatoes
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced into 1 inch strips
  • 2 bell peppers, seeded and sliced into 1 inch strips
  • 1 head of garlic, top cut off
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 2 tomato bouillon cubes (mexican grocery will have it)
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • olive oil
  • red pepper flakes measured with your heart
  • salt
  • pepper
  • Optional: A pinch or two of baking soda

Process:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375. On a sheet pan, toss together your onions and bell peppers with olive oil, then add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (helps the flavor bloom). Place your whole head of garlic in the center, spritz a little more olive oil, and roast for 25 to 30 minutes or until the edges start to char, moving things around halfway through so it doesn't burn.
  2. When you have 10 minutes-ish left on your roasting timer, start a pot on medium heat and melt the butter, stirring frequently, until it starts to brown a little bit but not all the way, you want a little flavor, not full nuttiness. Add in your canned tomatoes, including liquids, the veggie broth, and the sugar and spices. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover.
  3. Once your roasted veggies are done, toss the onions and the bell peppers into the pot, and carefully squeeze your roasted garlic into the pan. It will be hot, use tongs. Stir, then simmer covered for 20 minutes. If you want to simmer it uncovered, add 1/2 a cup to a full cup more of veggie broth, but I like my consistency to be thick
  4. Taste test - if it tastes a little too bright and acidy, add a literal pinch of baking soda, stir, and taste again before adding another. This step took the sharp edge off the canned tomato flavor, idk how to describe it, and helped the flavors blend vs being distinct from each other.
  5. After 20 minutes, you'll either use an immersion blender to blend it smooth, or blend it working in batches with a blender.
  6. To finish it, temper the half and half with a spoon full of soup at a time, stirring between additions. Once you have a mix that's half soup, half half and half, pour it back in slowly so the half and half doesn't seize, stirring constantly.

Folks who do their due diligence researching your purchases, what has disappointed you recently?

I spend hours looking through reviews for purchases like plates and kitchen knives, but the bot slop be botting slop. Most recently, my kitchen knife was taken out by a goddamn onion and I am so mad about it haha.

Have I optimized my office to be the best use of space?

I couldn't figure out how to make a closet bump out, but the closet is the only unmoveable option. I've been feeling a little bleh about my current setup and was curious if other people had better ideas.

I can't break endless mode level 9. What am I doing wrong?

I try to focus on synergies, but I admit I'm week to rolling when I see a grade c comp I like on the first page.

I typically run 2 tanks, a dps, and 2 mystics, but I've also done 1 tank 3 dps, and a mystic and the dps characters just seem to get wiped so quickly, but when I get big defense, they don't take out people fast enough before the rift takes them out first.

What am I fucking up?

My husband says the celebrity cruise we went on felt like a floating shopping mall. Are there any that don't feel that way?

My husband feels like cruises are less like all-inclusive resorts and more like floating shopping malls. Anyone resonate with this opinion and have tried one that truly feels like relaxation on a boat and not a cash grab?

Edit: I don't care if it's discount or luxury, I'm asking about which cruise lines don't feel like shopping malls, regardless of price. I already have a dozen comments of "just ignore it", which doesn't answer the question in title.

What words don't feel real to you? Aka, you recognize it's real, but the spelling makes you question whether you know how to spell because it's such a weird word.

I just had to spell Armageddon and the word looks so wrong.

Once I was a star

Once, I was a concept of dust,
Carefully compressed under the weight
Of unspoken dreams until I became

Your star.
The center of your universe,
My light gave you warmth and hope for the future—

Our barycenter, unbalanced.
Your gravity was too heavy.
You pulled, and I swung through space,
Losing the parts that fueled me along the way.
Expand, become more,
My outer layers stripping in the struggle to stay in your sky.

Red Giant.
Swollen, burning, expanding.
Holding everything you wanted until there was nothing.

Supernova.
I am dust.

I just tried press-ons for the first time and now I understand dogs freaking out about booties on their feet. What experiences have you had made you go 'oh, I get it now'?

Mediterranean diet recipes that don't taste mediterranean?

I know the principles of the mediterrean diet aren't exclusive to mediterranean food, but it's overwhelming having to relearn everything about structuring meals and google's enshittification is actively preventing me from finding alternatives that aren't all mediterranean flavors. I like mediterranean food, but not 7 days a week.

Anyone have any tried and true recipes from other cultures that fit the diet profile but don't taste greek or italian?

Favorite summer mediterranean salad recipe to fit post requirements:

  • Watermelon
  • High quality feta
  • Olive oil
  • Cucumber
  • Mint
