If someone gets choked and passes out, DO NOT lift their legs up.

I’ve seen people do this every time someone gets choked out, with their reasoning being “to increase blood flow to the brain”. This is medically inaccurate.

Blood returns to the brain immediately after the choke hold is released. The priority is to keep their airway open which is why you should put them in the recoveryposition instead. If you don’t do this, there is a risk of the tongue falling back and obstructing their airway or they may aspirate and choke on their own saliva or vomit.

Ben Nevis CMD Arête in late Oct 2025

I also did Snowdon via Watkins Path and Scafell Pike via Corridor Route. But Ben Nevis via CMD Arête was my favourite! Long, but easy scrambling. There was enough exposure to keep things interesting and exciting but it was very manageable and did not feel sketchy. I definitely wouldn’t do it in strong winds though.
